i think the endgame for me is when i dunk the cookie

i can't say i dislike it because i've sunk an embarrassing amount of time into it already, but i don't think Cookie Clicker compares very favorably to Candy Box. Candy Box eventually evolves into a passable rpg, with exploration, looting, and a tangible end game. the constant underlying multiplying accumulation engine is given meaning because you're actually saving up to buy real items that you need for the adventure component of the game. Cookie Clicker doesn't have any similar meaning. saving up for the big upgrade only results in a split second bit of jogged curiosity when you see how much your multiplier increased. it feels much more like checking boxes.

i quit cookie clicker earlier today. final score: 537 million cookies per second

wombspace (abanana), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 17:23 (ten years ago) link

agree with all that

back in the day I had an office job without internet access and the corporation even deleted minesweeper and solitaire from its win boxes so the opportunities to goof off at my desk were minimal. so I wrote a spreadsheet that played the card game War against itself, and I watched it for hours, and this game feels like that except with better graphics, so thanks Internet, I'm right where I was in 1995 click click click

Look up "Sushi". Where you stab these little pieces of sushi on an Asian restaurant table. The most deliciously stupid and simple game, but two weeks after downloading it from iTunes, I keep playing it. I think it has some aesthetic reward that keeps pulling me back. That and it goes with my current love for hibachi buffet.

I was feeling pretty smug about the fact I resisted the temptation to click those cookies like the rest of you, then I remembered I've been putting about an hour a day into Animal Crossing for the last 3 months.

JimD, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 10:27 (ten years ago) link

eh it would be easy to mess with the save file to fuck with your CPS but that's taking the pointlessness of this to yet another level

Euler, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 15:23 (ten years ago) link

153 mil per sec for me BY LEGIT MEANS as of now

actually I don't mind this running in a browser window while I do real work, I can periodically check on it & after half an hour buy a cursor or something, then get back to work

Euler, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 15:24 (ten years ago) link

the finishing post seems to keep getting further away is the worst thing

wombspace (abanana), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 16:08 (ten years ago) link

Hmm, link works better with just: http://greatlanguagegame.com/

Aha, that works. Didn't realise it was an audio game so I'll try later. I will almost certainly be bad at it.

emil.y, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 18:11 (ten years ago) link

My best is a paltry 600 points.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 18:11 (ten years ago) link

i wd score a lot higher looking at written words rather than listening to spoken, it's harder to hear your way into an unknown language imo

iMacaroon dragoons (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 18:12 (ten years ago) link

It's hard but the more you play it the more you kinda know what you're looking for.

Also sometimes it's a dead giveaway because the speaker is the same.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 18:16 (ten years ago) link

650

polyphonic, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 18:16 (ten years ago) link

I will never beat my friend's excellent score of 1150, I fear.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 18:17 (ten years ago) link

Poor quality recordings make it more difficult

i'm so bad at it
