He admitted in Shakey that his hearing was permanently damaged during the mixing of Weld. Seeing as how that was 22 years ago, I tend to doubt his hearing has improved any since then.

I dunno, I kinda feel like hearing loss doesn't completely obliterate an appreciation for quality recordings. those recent swans records sound incredible, and I suspect it's not just because gira surrounds himself w/ quality ppl, and I can't think of a better poster child for hearing loss.

teenagers can hear frequencies old bastards like us can't, but I'm sure I've got a better ear for recording quality than the avg teen. having a discerning ear is an instinct, a way of listening that goes beyond frequency cutoffs.
