America @OurGreatAmerica

Can we get 46,867 RETWEETS to remember ALL of the 46,867 soldiers, firefighters, and civilians who died of 9/11-related causes.

R.I.P.

The cause of death was 9/11.

immediately after 9/11 the ny post ran some cartoons of like spider-man + batman deferring to the brave firefighters, and stuff like that. does anyone know where i can find digital copies of those op-eds? they were terrible but i haven't really seen them since.

underneath the comic it said something like "the real heroes"

Mordy , Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:13 (ten years ago) link

I believe those would probably have appeared in the Marvel Comics "Heroes" publication:

My city's library is hosting an exhibition of found wreckage from Sept. 11:

The exhibition includes a recovered American flag, several World Trade Center souvenirs, building keys, signs, guns and sections of the building facade, marble floor and airplane fragments. Among the rescue-related objects are a NYPD radio holster, a firefighter’s Scott pack (oxygen tank) and fragments of a destroyed fire truck.

The press photo featured some sort of blasted apart motorcycle. I don't even.

I mean, would they

I've now figured out that the 'ch 4 10 00' at the end of Danny Dyer's tweet is probably about some show on Channel 4 at 10pm, but I spent a good while thinking that the geezer algorithm had broken down and was spewing out code.

there were a million 'I was at the deli on 9/11' posts this morning. I never participate because I was asleep when it happened.

I particularly like the genre of 9/11 stories that involve "I was supposed to go to New York City that day, but I [got sick, had an errand to run first, etc.]" in spite of the fact that being in NYC that day would have been mostly inconsequential unless you were actually supposed to go to the towers.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Thursday, 12 September 2013 03:45 (ten years ago) link

didn't see a single 9/11 thing on facebook today *feeling superior*

I love the Curb Your Enthusiasm where somebody says their relative died on 9/11 and SPOILER ALERT? Larry is made out to be a monster for losing sympathy when he learns that guy was a bike messenger who died being hit by a cab on the Upper West Side.

forget herzog, I think any wilderness enthusiast would tell you that "lost" is about the least romantic thing you can possibly be.

mordy you are so naive

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:17 (ten years ago) link

do you really think an omniscient god would be unaware of the future english language, the language of his chosen country, the greatest nation in history? do you REALLY believe that something as unlikely as 'dog' being 'god' spelled backwards is a coincidence??!

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:18 (ten years ago) link

but god didn't name dogs- adam did! and he wasn't omniscient.

Mordy , Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:22 (ten years ago) link

depends on whether you believe in free will, right

god made adam who named dogs, where are these words _really_ coming from

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:25 (ten years ago) link

iirc the Koran says God taught Adam the names of the animals on the sly, then got him to tell the angels what each animal was called as some kind of reminder to the angels that they weren't all that
