my grandfather worked at a navy shipyard. i think it's mostly civilians.

The Navy Yard is mostly offices. One of the first tweets I saw about it was some gun nut jibber jabber about it being a gun free zone or something.

in many govt buildings (including my own), if you have a badge you bypass the metal detector.

Some government sites also have on-site parking, so if the driver just shows his ID to the guard, the guard is not going to look in the car trunk to see what was brought in

my bro-in-law works for a military contractor, has visited the bldg many times.

The mother of Josh Morgan, a wide receiver for the Washington Team-That-Will-Not-Be-Named, was working at the Navy Yard when this all happened. This wouldn't be particularly noteworthy except for that Morgan's mother was also in the Pentagon during the 9/11 attacks and Morgan himself was a junior at Virgina Tech during its campus shooting.

watching the helicopter feed of what i presume must now be the procedure for these routine shootings is horrifying.

get shot at in school --> forced to evacuate in a single file line with their hands held up --> all students wrangled into the school's track herded together and patted down by a swat team --> ppl text and tweet --> that's it we're done here, next shooting

To Karen… AND Armed Security. Liberals HATE Guns… but the only way to STOP a Bad Guy with a Gun…. Is a Good Guy with a Gun.
The police can simply not be everywhere we might need them. With a “National Response Time” Average of 22 Minutes… And with the (seemingly increasing) number of evildoers that choose to do harm, We need to place “First Responders” at the sights of most concern.
