I went to bilbao. I've almost dried off.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 September 2005 09:15 (eighteen years ago) link

RJG you should have said hello. i had a 5 hour wait there and was going nuts with boredom. the only good thing about stansted is ponti's cafe.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 16 September 2005 10:26 (eighteen years ago) link

cathy had just bought her book, when I saw you, and she had to go and catch her train and I had to go through to my gate and I imagined I may well see you there until I remembered that the fire engines had been playing the night before

should have said hello, really, though

hope you had fun in ibiza!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 September 2005 11:33 (eighteen years ago) link

ibiza was ok. i probably wouldn't try it more if i wasn't going for work. having had almost no sleep, i would probably only have babbled incoherently had you said hello anyway.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 16 September 2005 11:43 (eighteen years ago) link

That is the best bookshop ever.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 16 September 2005 13:30 (eighteen years ago) link

i then napped and dreampt lost dreams. and then i woke up and thought a giant spider was swinging down at me.

dahlin (dahlin), Friday, 16 September 2005 18:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Hey Dahlin. Are Metro still going through those applications?

Stew (stew s), Friday, 16 September 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

yup. she was sifting through them today. a million overqualified journalism grads, i was told. she said your cv was impressive. dunno if that's a good or a bad thing! think she's handing the interview decision over to wanker chris.

dahlin (dahlin), Friday, 16 September 2005 20:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Better to be overqualified that underqualified I suppose. That said, I tend to find I'm overqualified for some jobs and slightly underqualified for others. What's a boy to do? Still, fingers crossed.
My new helpline job is ok though. We're allowed to read between calls, so I ploughed through most of Hemingway's Fiesta today. Not one of his best, but entertaining in a ridiculously macho way. "She had curves like a prize yacht" etc...

Stew (stew s), Friday, 16 September 2005 20:21 (eighteen years ago) link

what do Glasgow, Galway and Norway have in common?

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 22:59 (eighteen years ago) link

there's an a&w in each?

ours is on renfield street

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:10 (eighteen years ago) link

no.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:13 (eighteen years ago) link

it's not just something they have in common but something they share with no other places on the planet.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Enlighten us, Colin.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:28 (eighteen years ago) link

I will be interested to hear the answer

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:33 (eighteen years ago) link

INTERESTING.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:37 (eighteen years ago) link

i stole that tidbit from Robbie Lumsden so it must be true.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Those from Tasmania are Taswegians.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:49 (eighteen years ago) link

but I can't think of any more.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:50 (eighteen years ago) link

apparently that's the informal and "tasmanian" is correct.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 09:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Proper Noun

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 09:36 (eighteen years ago) link

An owl hooted in the vacuum of understanding.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Roll call. Who in this bitch actually reads this thread?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:34 (eighteen years ago) link

read is a strong word

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:35 (eighteen years ago) link

We were discussing, in the pub, whether anyone who isn't us lot in Glasgow, actually reads this shit.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Me

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:38 (eighteen years ago) link

And why are you back from the pub so early?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Because I was in Glasgow. We aren't as sophisticated as you posh East Coast types... (also you don't count as "not one of us lot in Glasgow" because you, sort of, are)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes I suppose so. My work colleague continually gives people grief for being weegies. This happens a lot at work. The real joke is in the fact that every last man jack of us is actually from Glasgow.

A work meeting once went:

Person A: Don't speak to him, he's a weegie
Person B: I'm from Glasgow
Me: Me too
Person B: Person A, aren't you from Glasgow?
Person A: No way! I'm from Bellshill.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Was it Norman Blake?

(you are totally ONE OF US)

I was in the pub with Onimo tonight, we had last orders called at 10.30. If I knew how to make that in big letters to show my surprise, I would. You should all Try Renfrewshire More. (land of alkies, innit?)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Jesus wept. You should try here more. The pub round the corner from me in Polwarth used to call last orders at 10:30 and it was the earliest closer in the city.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:49 (eighteen years ago) link

This pub was in Glasgow. I defied last orders caller until he looked too scary (i.e. I couldn't be arsed drinking any more). I walked to the station, got a train, got back to Paisley, if I hadn't gone home I could have gone to the pub and have been drinking a pint still (and we left the pub an hour ago). Renfrewshire ROOLZ...

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Is Renfrewshire not a bit... Banjoey?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:55 (eighteen years ago) link

BUT OUR PUBS STAY OPEN PAST ELEVEN!!!

(also, YOU LIVE IN EDINBURGH!!! Isn't that a bit, erm, posh?)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:56 (eighteen years ago) link

erm, you're posh = lamest insult ever

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I wasn't having a go! My Aunt May lived in Paisley. So did Gerry Rafferty. I've often wondered what it is makes Edinburgh posh. It might just come down to there being (perhaps) less outdoor toilets twenty five years ago, I think.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 22:00 (eighteen years ago) link

I just misread that as "it might just come down to me being there". Which would have been my explanation.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 22:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I read this shit, and may not be considered one of you lot in Glasgow.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 September 2005 08:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I read this also, and I would not like to be considered one of you lot in Glasgow because I'm not. One of you lot, in Glasgow, that I'd be pleased about.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 22 September 2005 08:38 (eighteen years ago) link

i read this shit. i'm not sure if i count as 'one of us lot' or not. especially seeing as i only started reading after i'd left glasgow.

michael grant (michael digby grant), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:14 (eighteen years ago) link

I read this, and from next week I'll be back to commuting to Glasgow four days a week, but I still don't think I count as 'one of us lot'! PS get some decent weather, coming out of the tube was like walking into a cold sauna this morning.

alext (alext), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:37 (eighteen years ago) link

he does that every morning anyway.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:21 (eighteen years ago) link

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I'd forgotten about him. Yes please.
