tbh this has been my overall experience with the 5 so I basically go nowhere without a plug these days

I obsessively close apps now, but yeah, the battery life does seem to be taking a hit on my 4s.

this is completely unintuitive and probably a lie but if you do the "reset all settings" thing, it seems to help some weirdness. you have to re-enter all your passwords in apps, though.

I guess if there is some really poorly-behaved app that isn't really closing and the system isn't killing it in memory, then you could have issues

I noticed especially in Europe that I would have my phone in airplane mode and use the camera, and the battery would be down to around 35% by 3 PM while my wife's would still be around 80% (she also has a 5)

xp i don't agree with that - i've definitely noticed if system starts chugging and halting when app switching, closing a bunch of them will free up some memory and it'll go a little smoother

I have ran into exactly one app with that problem, and it was because they fucked up and didn't implement location settings correctly and it was fixed in the next version

generally, once an app is backgrounded it can only use processor time if it uses audio, if it uses the new api that lets apps do background updates (was not available pre-iOS7) or if they fucked up and it's never actually backgrounding

if it's that last case and they don't fix it, delete that shit

Nhex, that is true because it's chugging a little because your memory is full and it's actually closing memory-resident apps for you.

I don't know which app is causing the problem but I've noticed that my cell reception goes into the pits if I have too many apps backgrounded; wondering if that behavior goes away with iOS 7

ya iphones have the best battery life fwiw

(for example, I'll be standing next to my wife and her phone will have 4 bars LTE and I'll have 1 bar 4G until I close some apps)

that makes no sense whatsoever, unless something on your phone is making it busy and it's too lazy to update the reception meter

maybe you hold it a little differently when you're closing apps and that gets your hand out of the way of the antenna

went to bed last night at 100% battery, woke up with 100%, never had that happen on my 5 with ios 6, so, I dunno?

haha I have unplugged my phone from the charger and watched it jump immediately from 100% to 91% prior to this update, wonder if that's still gonna happen

The thing I miss the most about my old Treo was that I only had to charge it every 4 days.

I don't charge every day, every 1.5 days probably. on wifi rather than lte most of the time though

my gmail account is greyed out in the mail app and tapping it does nothing. my "all inboxes" is also greyed out and i can't tap on it. despite it showing that i have 1 unread message in my gmail account!!

the native mail app has always been terrible and I've never gone back to it once I added the Gmail app

I stood in line for the 3G when it came out, packed a lunch, and had my "NASCAR" folding chair and was out there about 7 hours. Lots of nice people with common interests (ie. Ham Radio, Private Pilots, Classic Cars, NASCAR, music)

I stood in line to get the 4 as a walk-in, thinking I'd be in line for 2 hours tops. I got there at... 7:30? and didn't actually get inside the store until noon. I will never, ever do that again.

Plus side, I ran into a buddy of mine who had just finished his dissertation for his doctorate in choral conducting and we spent the whole time making fun of ourselves for standing in that abysmal line.
