I had my iPhone fairly full but tbh I've barely had my 64gb one above 30gb for the past year, so.. eh

I do own a 64GB iPad though

well my work here is done

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Monday, 7 October 2013 19:39 (ten years ago) link

I have a 16GB 5S - I don't put any music or video on the phone, so I've never come close to filling one.

i went with silver/white 64GB too. only so much space because ive had the worst time with 32gb ipadfs and 16gb phones like having to delete stuff to make room for updates etc. not interested in 2 more years of that.

No more kisses (sunny successor), Monday, 7 October 2013 19:58 (ten years ago) link

i probably would have been okay with 32gb. kind of ordering some space luxury here.

I saw a coworker with the slate/space grey whatever and it did look really good. kind of gave off a blue sheen.

No more kisses (sunny successor), Monday, 7 October 2013 20:01 (ten years ago) link

it does look nice but I prefer the black 5

I hope the bring black back for the 6

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Monday, 7 October 2013 20:02 (ten years ago) link

i'm wondering if changing to space gray, and introducing champange, is related to the ease of anodizing the aluminum... the 5 black was very scratch prone

am i the only one who mostly considers covers when picking a phone color? i mean im not crazy about the gold but to me its the worst because what cover is going to look good with that? whereas silver/white and black are okay with a ton of stuff.

No more kisses (sunny successor), Monday, 7 October 2013 20:06 (ten years ago) link

I only got a cover for my 5 after I broke the glass on front, so my original choice was solely based on the phone itself

this is the cover I ended up getting:

I had a 16gb 4 and just got a 16gb 5s - 90% of what I have on it is music and podcasts and i can't fit my entire collection anyway so it doesn't really phase me if I carry only 5% around instead of 20%.

joygoat, Monday, 7 October 2013 23:03 (ten years ago) link

max why do you get 64gb i thought you only listen to spotify and itunes match?

caek, Monday, 7 October 2013 23:40 (ten years ago) link

iTunes match downloads instead of streaming iirc?

he probably has been taking long videos for possible revival of gawker stalker

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 00:28 (ten years ago) link

i d/l itunes match stuff so i can listen on the subway, and sync some videos to plex also for the subway, also take a ton of photos/video

I'm thinking the same way, but it's percisely that reason I'm holding out for a gold 5S. The cases i'm considering cover up the back and side, so the only place you'll see gold is on the chamfered front rim and the ring surrounding the home button/fingerprint scanner. It's a very subtle difference from the white/silver 5S - both are predominantly white in front - but I like the look of having those accents in champagne gold instead of the usual chrome.

I'm going 64gb, afraid that new burst-mode camera could chew up memory fast if I don't habitually delete the extra shots quickly

ios7's swipe-from-the-edge standard is so intuitive that i expect everything to do it now

obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 05:41 (ten years ago) link

i'm mixed on that one - don't like how you have potentially interfering commands w/swipe from middle vs. swipe from top (see: spotlight vs. notification center) especially on the small phone screen

Nhex, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 06:08 (ten years ago) link

swipe-to-the-right v swipe-from-the-left-edge seem pretty distinct, but yeah, plenty of fine tuning needs to happen. the shift key doesn't fire for me most of the time, and tapping stuff in the control centre is a crap shoot too.

obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 06:13 (ten years ago) link

pause button in the control centre always takes at least 2 taps for me on a 5

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 08:47 (ten years ago) link

Just entered the Mavericks Zone. So far not as jarring as 7

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 11:40 (ten years ago) link

Yeah I have to hammer on the pause button a lot which is pretty annoying. And swiping up never seems to work while I'm texting or have the keyboard visible.

Also my wife mentioned yesterday that she's gotten so used to the thumbprint unlocking that she holds her thumb there at other times expecting her phone to read her mind and do something

the excitement of iPhone tracking

arrived in dsm at 12:53AM
out for delivery

sunny are you at the place where yours is getting delivered? I pre-signed and need to run home when that sucker gets there.

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 10 October 2013 14:21 (ten years ago) link

i need to do the same! mine out for delivery in little rock

No more kisses (sunny successor), Thursday, 10 October 2013 14:25 (ten years ago) link

i couldnt find any tape this morning so my presign is hanging from the door handle attached with a piece of string and a wooden peg. god help me.

No more kisses (sunny successor), Thursday, 10 October 2013 14:26 (ten years ago) link

I went on an epic tape hunt yesterday and found it. I can't remember what I've used in the past to fake it, but the string and peg sound about right.

are you sure you're not secretly alternate universe version of me

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 10 October 2013 14:31 (ten years ago) link

definitely possible

No more kisses (sunny successor), Thursday, 10 October 2013 14:37 (ten years ago) link

Alternatives to tape that I've used w/ success: gum, strips of envelope flap, stamps.

Unsuccessfully: plain saliva, sugar saliva, syrup.

hah why dont u guys have any tape tape is cool

It would be nice if those tracking text messages or emails really were in real-time, but they actually arrive about 10-15 minutes after the fact. I'll sign for my package at home, then 10 minutes later get a text saying it's been delivered. And of course, from early morning on delivery day, there's an unchanging "out for delivery" message from 6:53am that doesn't clue you in whether the delivery will be at 8:30am or 4pm.

Last month I ordered a kitchen appliance online and had the pleasure of it being shipped via a small local carrier, A&B Trucking. Their service was leagues ahead of FedEx and UPS regarding keeping you informed of when your package will arrive (in this case a big oven). They called me the evening before and gave me the driver's name and mobile phone number, with a estimated time window of only two hours. The next morning, they called me and shortened the time window to a half hour once the truck was en route, and offered to call me when they were about 20 minutes away from the delivery address so I could meet them there. And when they arrived, they helped me carry the oven into the house and let me open the box to inspect for damage before signing off on it.

This is how every shipping company should operate. Besides the annoyingly long delivery time windows (which they still often miss), I often can't find out in advance whether the package will be sent back to the shipper if nobody's home to sign for it (safe, but annoying if it's something you're itching to have now, or if it will be dropped on the porch behind the handrail with the hope nobody will steal it before I get home. (I often prefer the latter arrangement for less-expensive, larger items. Why isn't this an option you can easily choose when you buy the product and pay for shipping?)
