This is amazing. Dying at William Price-Hound's plaintive "leave me alone" msgs.

iirc your twitter handle can't have 'twitter' in it?

Gladly paid it for it to be no longer so fucking ugly

so is there a way to go back to the pics not auto showing up

this is an affront to everything twitter stands for
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 22:31 (ten years ago) link
i hate it
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 22:33 (ten years ago) link
It didn't used to be the case that every tweet said "Reply - Retweet - Favorite ...More" under it, right? I thought that only popped up if you're hovering, or maybe it was just symbols before? It looks awful.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 23:11 (ten years ago) link
yeah every tweet is super cluttered, almost as objectionable as seeing ads imo
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 29 October 2013 23:13 (ten years ago) link
i thought the blue lines were gonna be bad but they turned out to be fine, this on the other hand is just too much too much i say
― twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 23:14 (ten years ago) link
i still refuse to accept the blue lines, they make too much of a sequential muddle of conversations that are playing out with multi-tweet replies.
― Merdeyeux, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 23:16 (ten years ago) link
The way the blue lines mess with chronology is the thing that bugs me about them. The lines themselves don't bother me.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 23:18 (ten years ago) link
entire site looks like it's been run thru blingy

ok like 5 hours later i have made peace with the new updates

story of basically any update ever
The pictures thing is stupidly annoying. Seriously glad it wasn't in force a couple of days ago when every fucker in my timeline was retweeting that Davie Moyes picture though.
― ailsa, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 08:46 (ten years ago) link
Every fucker in my timeline is posting 'Diana's Ghost Tells Kate She's Too Skinny'. Over and over again.

are you all using the actual website
― cozen, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 09:31 (ten years ago) link
I use it on my laptop. So?
― hatcat marnell (suzy), Wednesday, 30 October 2013 10:33 (ten years ago) link
didn't know it was so common; just assumed most ppl used dedicated clients
― cozen, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 10:59 (ten years ago) link
i used to use a thingy that popped up like a chatbox on firefox then i stopped using firefox and nothing else seemed as good as the web version
don't want a separate program running and slowing everything down
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 11:08 (ten years ago) link
The Twitter extension for Chrome is pretty good. That and Instapaper are the only extensions I ever use.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 11:14 (ten years ago) link
dedicated clients are bullshit fyi

??? I never look at twitter at anything other than tweetbot. I don't see how anyone could use twitter without mute filters.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 11:35 (ten years ago) link
tbf ilx has trained me up pretty good in just ignoring people

My iPhone and laptop have zero iTunes activated, and I don't really do apps. It took me an age to set up email on my phone because I live in absolute horror of getting a grand in roaming charges if I happen to travel somewhere. Though I will grant that in 2013, this fear is possibly not rational.
― hatcat marnell (suzy), Wednesday, 30 October 2013 11:42 (ten years ago) link

i've been using this for the web version. nice enough
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 11:43 (ten years ago) link
No kidding. Going clientless seems inconceivable.
― Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:03 (ten years ago) link
Yeah I've tried a couple of clients but they didn't seem that great to me. I like to keep it simple.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:06 (ten years ago) link
I use Tweetdeck at work but that's mainly so I can have my work twitter open in Tweetdeck and my personal twitter open in the browser and don't have to log in and out. I don't really get the advantages of clients.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:15 (ten years ago) link
Sync read/unread tweets across devices, keyword/client/user mute options, better view of conversations, supports different services like readability etc.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:46 (ten years ago) link
Much of this is more relevant if you try and read most tweets instead of skimming.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:47 (ten years ago) link
Most of that doesn't seem very useful to me. Better view of conversations seems like the main attraction for me.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:48 (ten years ago) link
Mute is fantastic. Like if Ned Ragget just won't shut up about MBV on a particular day, then I'll just mute him for a day or a week.
Muting hashtags so I don't ever have to see anyone's #RHWOBH tweets.
Muting any tweet from a 4sq checkin.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:50 (ten years ago) link
in the 300 steps of redesign thread bump we must be at 180-200, 'i use special things'
― forbz (Matt P), Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:51 (ten years ago) link
If someone is dumb, I unfollow them. If they're just being boring or temporarily dumb, I ignore them. Muting hashtags might be nice but I'd be worried I'd forget to unmute and miss something I'm interested in.
But what client do you recommend, Jeff? Maybe I'll try one out.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:52 (ten years ago) link
you know you can have multiple twitter accounts in tweetdeck ie both work and personal
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:54 (ten years ago) link
I use tweetbot but still getting used to the latest redesign. Almost there.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 21:55 (ten years ago) link
Can't wait for the redesign to make it over to the OSX version.
― Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 31 October 2013 01:23 (ten years ago) link
mavericks doesn't have the new ios look & feel though, so it might not make heaps of sense
