IPAD AIR WTF

markers, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:07 (ten years ago) link

hahahaha wait

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:08 (ten years ago) link

horrible name

Euler, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:08 (ten years ago) link

does anyone give a shit about the iPad getting thinner? I put my last one in a thick case because it's more comfortable to hold that way.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:09 (ten years ago) link

The original one feels like a brick, but I think the weight matters more. Still think the mini is the perfect size tho

stet, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:09 (ten years ago) link

tbh the reason I love my wife's IPAD MINI is the thickness (so much missed salaciousness there btw)

Euler, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:10 (ten years ago) link

a larger, lighter iPad might entice me to switch over to reading all of my scores electronically if someone gives me one as a gift (my mini was a gift, otherwise I would still be iPadless)

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:11 (ten years ago) link

these things seem well expensive in the world of cheap-ass tablets

stet, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:12 (ten years ago) link

ive is sooo high

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:13 (ten years ago) link

one thing i have never found myself complaining about re ipad 1 is its weight, but then again i rock a 17" mac book pro

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:14 (ten years ago) link

no touchid

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:16 (ten years ago) link

I used my 17" mbp as a LAPtop this weekend for the first time in, I dunno, a year? (main machine is a retina 15" mbp now) and wow it felt boxy & silly & thick & uncut & oh wait

Euler, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:16 (ten years ago) link

damnit I thought I'd get away without buying anything

stet, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:16 (ten years ago) link

I occasionally sing with a dude who puts his music on his iPad and he has had to bail out of using it for concerts because it's about 5 times as heavy as any physical score we would be holding and there's no space in the choir area to put a stand. Making it lighter makes sense; I just don't see why they have to rebrand it as "iPad Air" rather than just saying "btw the new iPad weighs a pound, yr welcome" and calling it a day

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:17 (ten years ago) link

gimme

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:18 (ten years ago) link

That's aggressive, but the Nexus 7 has a killer display for $229.

yeah, but apps

cozen, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:19 (ten years ago) link

If the iPad is 5 times as heavy, the iPad Air is 3.33 times as heavy

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:20 (ten years ago) link

what's the deal w/mavericks? incremental update?

cozen, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

people who have ipads: did you get wifi or wifi+mobile? what's the verdict on this?

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

I was given wifi+mobile and it's pretty great

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

mine's the former

markers, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:22 (ten years ago) link

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:24 (ten years ago) link

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:24 (ten years ago) link

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:25 (ten years ago) link

what about siracusa's review

markers, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:26 (ten years ago) link

that's what we should all be caring about

markers, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:27 (ten years ago) link

i'll prob be spending more money on that than mavericks

markers, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:27 (ten years ago) link

ipad mini "Coming later in November."

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:28 (ten years ago) link

i have ipad wifi, actually bought it 3g capable but have never found myself with any impulse to get a data plan for it. (but the ipad rarely leaves my house, unlike the laptop and the phone -- if i carried it around a lot i can imagine wanting mobile coverage for it)

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:29 (ten years ago) link

alright a lot to do today

markers, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:30 (ten years ago) link

128gb option on the ipad mini, nice

stet, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:31 (ten years ago) link

huh interesting.

markers, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:32 (ten years ago) link

I am overwhelmed by the wall of words that is Siracusa -- can one of you tell me whether it's time to upgrade from 10.6?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:33 (ten years ago) link

i got ipad w/sim and regretted it - never activated the data plan

having a magic book is excessive enough, having a magic book that talks to the sky is just OTT

The idea of improved battery life is very appealing

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:34 (ten years ago) link

it's like a 10% increase in battery life in the best possible circumstances. i doubt you'll see a huge improvement on a machine so old it's still running 10.6.

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:40 (ten years ago) link

this computer is only 3 years old!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:43 (ten years ago) link

mavericks pretty great imo

mh, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:49 (ten years ago) link

right, i'm just saying 10% is the theoretical upper limit improvement in battery life you will see, and with a non-new computer you will likely see less.

caek, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 19:01 (ten years ago) link

Hmm, might just wait until I get a new machine then.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 19:05 (ten years ago) link

what's the deal w/mavericks? incremental update?

You need to download it separately from the App Store. It's available now if you search for it, but it's not on the front page yet.

I love that 24-page review that ends in a Fight Club quote.

Torn between a mini and a nexus---like the google form factor, and the price, but I'm in the Mac ecosystem and would be using it for med stuff (chart checking, orders, reference) which I already have apps for.

what say you
