aw thanks.

Never been to that venue, is it newish? Would go to that night if I was about.
Miss Glasgow, been away 16 months, though I was back for a ten day visit at xmas, and still no used to being so far away from the place. Lived my whole life within ten miles of celtic park until I moved :/

so, Sunday? say 3 or 4pm? jed or Ward want to nominate a place that's cosy with enough tables we can settle around one?
[or is The Glad Cafe pub-with-cakes a suggestion? all those links are facebook so it's hard for me to tell. (I don't facebook.)]
someone see if Grimly fancies coming out?
ta for all the recommendations though, I'll see what/if the folks I'm staying with might be tempted out for!

catching the sleeper up tonight and back tomorrow too. train doesn't leave until 11:50 iirc, so there's a sort of plan that involves having a bite to eat/drink with a colleague/friend, then *finding something to do* tomorrow evening assuming I don't just stay in the pub. film seems boring but might catch any old theatrical/music shit if anyone's got any ideas.
― Fizzles, Wednesday, 6 November 2013 17:08 (ten years ago) link
sic - glad cafe is nice, but not that central, which may be a factor for ppl on a sunday. i'm going to defer to jed or another glasgow person, i only know a few favoured haunts (inc. the outlawed Mono) that i'm not quite sure fit the bill, here.
fizzles - i am drawing a blank for tomorrow, beyond the obv (ie glasgow film theatre.) as an ilber, you should def visit this place when you have more free time in the city

Thanks Ward. It frightens me what I might do in that place. Oh wait, it's Voltaire and Rousseau, I think I've heard of it even and Glasgow film theatre seems like a good shout in lieu of anything else.

Just enjoyed first night in west end since moving up, can report that Hanoi Bicycle Club is llovely.

after a spell of thinking i could live in london indefinitely i suddenly want to be in glasgow asap. who wants to house me and feed me when i'm writing up my phd with no source of income?
― Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 6 November 2013 23:50 (ten years ago) link
i'll let you crash for a bit but i like my own space :)
there seems to be a wave of london exiles, amongst my fiends, who are dying to get back to glasgow. they might change their minds once they get here though, it's pissin' doon.
i don't have any specific suggestions re a sic-fap location but the glad cafe, nice as it looks (and i've heard good things about it) is a little out of the way for me in my presumably hungover state. something more central would suit me more.
― i lost my shoes on acid (jed_), Wednesday, 6 November 2013 23:58 (ten years ago) link
Just go to Mono :)
― ailsa, Thursday, 7 November 2013 00:06 (ten years ago) link
SO MOTE IT BE! The scales have been struck from the eyes of the greatest unbeliever, and the pilgrims are free to go forward!
(actually was it Mono (or Stereo?) that we briefly ended up at after the Carter after-party in 2007? I was, it's fair to say, very very drunk, but recall somewhere that felt like a way-too-brightly-lit for the hour cafeteria.)
― ͼѾͽ (sic), Friday, 8 November 2013 02:38 (ten years ago) link
I don't think that's mono you are describing, sic
There are plenty of other places to drink and eat near to mono, some of them with cheaper prices, better service, more atmos - but no record shop inside
― Ward Fowler, Friday, 8 November 2013 08:41 (ten years ago) link
I have no recollection of anything post-Carter, but both Mono and Stereo have an air of cafeteria about them.
― ailsa, Friday, 8 November 2013 09:16 (ten years ago) link
What start time suits ppl better - 3 vs 4?
― ͼѾͽ (sic), Friday, 8 November 2013 09:20 (ten years ago) link
alright let's say THREE-THIRTY at MONO this SUNDAY AFTERNOON
come ONE come ALL even AILSA
my UK number is +forty-four 7four63 four62663 if anyone needs to get in touch, I won't be ILX-y much tomorrow
― ͼѾͽ (sic), Friday, 8 November 2013 20:22 (ten years ago) link
mono? really?
― i lost my shoes on acid (jed_), Friday, 8 November 2013 20:55 (ten years ago) link
the brightly lit cafeteria with the service with a scowl?
It is proper Glasgow FAP tradition to fanny around and fail to make suggestions and then end up in Mono anyway.
― ailsa, Friday, 8 November 2013 21:23 (ten years ago) link
^ this
― Madchen, Friday, 8 November 2013 21:47 (ten years ago) link
if I spot somewhere more interesting on the way we can relocate, but you bunch of fannies weren't coming up with anything useful
there was a place I went last time I was up that's meant to be good, down the hill from the Subbie, but we went on a Sunday arvo and they were out of everything on tap. Glasgow literally couldn't organise a piss-up in a pub, bless it
― ͼѾͽ (sic), Saturday, 9 November 2013 03:05 (ten years ago) link
i will be at mono tomorrow aft, happy to move on elsewhere
― Ward Fowler, Saturday, 9 November 2013 09:02 (ten years ago) link
I shall try and shake off my aversion to Mono cold and pop along for a bit.
Is that other place you went to McSorleys?
― ailsa, Saturday, 9 November 2013 09:27 (ten years ago) link
I have a head full of sinus gloop - sorry :-(
― ailsa, Sunday, 10 November 2013 16:16 (ten years ago) link
I think so!
went along and this seems likely to be accurate. esp in favour of no illumination apart from lasers. sadly I didn't spot jed to say hello!
Ward and I had a sedate, largely tea-based FAP, and I'm pleased to report that the gentleman who served me was very smiley and helpful.
― ͼѾͽ (sic), Sunday, 10 November 2013 23:13 (ten years ago) link
yeah, the grumpy manager wasn't there yesterday
nice to see sic again - sedate was great

Someone really wants to get this BBC News anchor a map of Glasgow or a phone number for someone at BBC Scotland. If I hear her ask one more eyewitness if it's a rare occurence for a police helicopter to be flying over Glasgow, I'll put my foot through the telly.
― ailsa, Friday, 29 November 2013 23:50 (ten years ago) link
Hi Glasgow, hope you're all okay. xx
― Matt DC, Friday, 29 November 2013 23:52 (ten years ago) link
When isnt there a polis copter flying over the west of scotland?
xp
yeah i hope no ilxors were there and hope noones been killed.
― ۩, Friday, 29 November 2013 23:56 (ten years ago) link
Lots of reports about how bystanders ran towards the crash, not away from it. Good old Glasgow.
― stet, Friday, 29 November 2013 23:58 (ten years ago) link
thanks, Matt x
where are we looking for updates? i can't find anything of much use.
― i lost my shoes on acid (jed_), Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:03 (ten years ago) link
This BBC anchor is pure gagging for there to have been an explosion or something more exciting than your common-or-garden helicopter-crash-lands-on-roof-of-pub story. Also keeps saying "unconfirmed reports that it's a police helicopter" despite the on-screen pictures showing the word POLICE on the mangled wreckage.
― ailsa, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:03 (ten years ago) link
really hoping this works out as okay as possible, so awful to hear about. be okay glasgow
― love mike love (ko komo) (schlump), Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:04 (ten years ago) link
jed_ , I'm just getting stuff from twitter.
Thanks for looking out for us, guys. Most Glasgow folk of my acquaintance seem to have surfaced on twitter or facebook now. Despite what the BBC are saying about how popular the area is, it really isn't, and it seems to be absolutely localised on that one pub.
― ailsa, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:08 (ten years ago) link
Sorry, should add, I'm not trivialising it at all, but it's very localised on a very small area. The fact that the crash didn't cause a fire is amazing and I'm so thankful that it didn't, and that will have aided the rescue effort tremendously.
― ailsa, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:11 (ten years ago) link
that's true ailsa.
it would be unlikely that a crashed helicopter on a pub would result in no casualties though but here's hoping.
― i lost my shoes on acid (jed_), Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:20 (ten years ago) link
I need to step away from rolling news coverage. So much scaremongering and sensationalising that it's hard to actual just go OMGWTF A HELICOPTER FUCKING CRASHED ON A PUB without getting cross at ghouls trying to rustle up new scarier angles, so much so that I'm already starting to become desensitised to OMGWTF A HELICOPTER FUCKING CRASHED ON A PUB in its own right.
― ailsa, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:25 (ten years ago) link
Gordon Smart, editor the Scottish Sun, told the BBC:
I can't really believe what's happened. I was on the phone at the time and I heard a misfiring engine. Looked above me, couldn't work out where it was coming from, it got louder and louder and I just spotted a helicopter falling from the sky.
It was falling at great speed. It looked like the rotors weren't spinning but the helicopter was sort of turning in a strange position and dropping at great speed. Oddly enough there was no explosion no fire ball.
It's a busy Friday night, a lot of people have been out in the pubs, there are a lot of pubs in that area. I do fear… I would be staggered if there weren't fatalities from the area it's landed.
― ۩, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:39 (ten years ago) link
I don't know about whoever was in the helicopter, but it kinda sounds like it could have been a lot worse for people in the pub. There's a lot of jibber jabber going round.
― Eyeball Kicks, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:52 (ten years ago) link
Yeah, the pub and its clientele seem to have got off relatively lightly.
― ailsa, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:57 (ten years ago) link
I cant imagine anyone in the helicopter surviving but fingers crossed.
If it had exploded there could have been dozens dead inside.

This is just awful, and so close to the river - wonder if that was where the helicopter was trying to get to, to avoid people. Much love Glasgow x

Not to be a scaremonger but deaths seem inevitable.hoping that's not the case obv.what a shitty situation.

I used to work and live next to Clyde like mile west of there and choppers are always going up and down there.heliport is next to river by the secc.
― tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 30 November 2013 05:13 (ten years ago) link
On the news I keep hearing "crashed into the roof" but that doesn't give an entirely accurate picture - it's a single-story building with, at least in part, a flat roof.
