this post

and having lived in Germany and throughout the UK, i find it impossible to like southerners in person. yes, some of southern fairies on here seem nice and friendly, but and I say this as currently living in the souff since 6 weeks, I have yet to meet a friendly person.

I find this sad, considering northern english seem quite the opposite.

Am I just being unlucky???

(This isn't wind up, it is genuinely annoying me! It doesnt take much to smile at your fellow man/woman!)

Montreal Metro high quality? I don't think so.

It's a rip off of the paris metro's rubber tired trains and the trains themselves are pretty bog stock horrible with no heating and no air con, only ventilation.

The stations are interesting to a point, but still filthy, overcrowded and full of rude Montrealians. It's cheap, nasty and gross.

The first time I used the Montreal Metro was way back in 1990 when I stayed near friends who lived near Assomption on the green Angrignon line. (Close to the old Olympic stadium) And whilst I had not been to Paris yet, the french culture in Quebec astounded me with it's hatred of anything English.

Back then I was only 20 and my husband of the time and I were doing a two month trip of North America. We cut short our Canada tour because of the awful people (who thought we were from the UK as we didn't have slang accents) and fled Montreal and drove down to NYC. Best thing I ever did.

I went back to visit friends in Montreal a couple of years back and nothing has changed, it's a dirty depressing place with miserable people who still want to seceed from Canada. Toronto on the other hand is an amaazing place.

The french of Quebec are some of the most unfriendly people on the planet, I found true Parisians and the French to be far nicer and accommodating.

Montreal = blech

That's a fair point. I know I'm gonna get in hot water for suggesting this post, but arguably gold chains etc aren't necessarily specific to black working class cultures any more and haven't been for quite a few decades. i don't like this song. i think lily allen's attempt at parody and cutting social commentary is weak, massively misguided and really rather insensitive, especially when put under the scrutiny of a line by line/shot by shot dissection. as a send-up of pop and consumerist culture it forgets a number of things and winds up as straight-up hypocrisy. but it also concerns me that people are willing to call her an out-and-out racist/sexist etc because of an ill-advised and poorly-executed attempt to take the piss out of pop / fashion as well as those who exploit it. disregarding allen's back-story (and her historical spat with azealia banks, which i only found out about yesterday and is completely indefensible), it's a massively ill-thought-out bit of work especially for a comeback single and i agree with a huge number of points made. but there's also an element of hysteria surrounding this, much of which involves analysing this video/song in microscopic detail and branding it outwardly and intentionally offensive. i would say that it's simply a failure. it fails on every level in what it's trying to do. it's a crap song for a start. the lyrics are sub-comedic and just plain dumb. the video might be taking the piss out of thicke, cyrus et al but only by replicating and exaggerating exactly what happened in those videos thus nullifying any social commentary it sets out to make. the whole thing is awful, but i believe it is trying to make a wider point. it's just a shame that that point is lost, almost entirely because of how badly executed it is and how easy it is for internet pundits to tear it to pieces and show it up for how unintentionally insensitive the results are. still, i don't believe it wasn't made with good intentions somehow, i just think they got lost along the way.
