I quite enjoyed Nasim's motivational speaker/sound effects character, and the odd-ball ice cream sketch. Kerry Washington was a great host.

I actually had to pause my dvr and get out my computer and finally watch the fucking fox video before diving into that parody
Ha, we did the exact same thing.
I know it's about as big a target as possible, but I laughed at the "Date or Diss" MTV dating show parody a few times. "I've got a birthmark that screams." and "my teeth are allllways bleeding."
― Walter Galt, Monday, 4 November 2013 07:43 (ten years ago) link
The tone of the MTV thing was just perfect.

I predict she will either be an awesome host or they won't do shit with her

Hmmm
― Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:54 (ten years ago) link
So far better than average, though the bar is awfully low.
― Murgatroid, Sunday, 17 November 2013 05:00 (ten years ago) link
Cover songs sketch was pretty ace.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 17 November 2013 05:00 (ten years ago) link
we've all seen rob ford press conferences and he doesn't have that stupid accent so its bs they gave it to him.
his actual antics are way more outrageous than that sketch

how many speeches are there for him to do though

― Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Sunday, 17 November 2013 05:50 (ten years ago) link
yeah outside of the opener. i liked the acting school one, and this current sketch with aging rockstar is really sharp
― lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Sunday, 17 November 2013 05:57 (ten years ago) link
So did she fire her manager for putting "Applause" in that car commercial

The Ms. Germanotta sketch made me a little sad.

I had no idea what the cup song was until tonight
― imago-er not a show-er (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 17 November 2013 06:16 (ten years ago) link
Let me get this straight. There's 81 million views on a video with an intro that's over a minute long and has the unwieldy, totally fucking ridiculous title "Cups (Pitch Perfect's "When I'm Gone")"
― imago-er not a show-er (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 17 November 2013 06:26 (ten years ago) link
"You have to see this video! It's a great song called "Cups (Pitch Perfect's "When I'm Gone)." What? Yeah that's the title. No, Pitch Perfect was a movie. Yeah, we saw Taken 2 that week. Anyway, you watching it? I know nothing is happening. Ok, just keep watching. Keep watching. Yeah the intro is like a minute. I don't know why."
Repeat 81 million times

Rick Ross doing cups was the funniest thing last night.
― dan selzer, Sunday, 17 November 2013 14:22 (ten years ago) link
Cups thing was hilarious. My cups happy daughter was cracking up, and she didn't even get the joke. Keenan could barely keep a straight face.

Gaga/Kelly A+
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 17 November 2013 16:30 (ten years ago) link
Best episode in a long time. Even the hacky skits had great bits (e.g. Kate McKinnon's broccoli baby in the co-op interview sketch... Plus I always get a huge kick out of Pharoah's Kanye)
― Walter Galt, Sunday, 17 November 2013 22:32 (ten years ago) link

― imago-er not a show-er (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 17 November 2013 22:44 (ten years ago) link
I generally thought it was a pretty bad episode. Weekend Update was the least I've enjoyed it in ages. Gaga was decent, a good performer, not so awkward, but I was really tired of all the meta gaga references/jokes in every skit. I'm surprised everyone here liked this episode that much. I like the Rob Ford/CNN, the Blockbuster video, Vanessa's overacting summer camp actress...
― dan selzer, Sunday, 17 November 2013 22:55 (ten years ago) link
this episode was terrible
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 17 November 2013 22:56 (ten years ago) link
seth had one good joke but i forget what it was
Kate McKinnon's broccoli baby in the co-op interview sketch
I love when she just goes absurd.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 17 November 2013 23:00 (ten years ago) link
She's so good. Even her silent kris kardashian was somehow brilliant.
― dan selzer, Sunday, 17 November 2013 23:01 (ten years ago) link
Yeah. Def one of the better shows this season. Don't understand the negative responses.
― Statham. Versus. Franco. (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 17 November 2013 23:04 (ten years ago) link
I think that getting meta with the host is part of the SNL fun. I can see that the weekend update jokes may have been weaker, but I was dying at the failed speech writer and outraged senior guests
― Statham. Versus. Franco. (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 17 November 2013 23:09 (ten years ago) link
And Gaga/Kells both sound immaculate live. So I guess we can stop cutting artists slack for terrible SNL sound
― Statham. Versus. Franco. (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 17 November 2013 23:10 (ten years ago) link
oh yeah, I loved speech writer bit. But too much meta. nonstop meta.
