i like zonoscope.
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 15 November 2013 16:21 (ten years ago) link
Yeah, just skip Where I'm Going, for heaven's sake. The rest is great.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:25 (ten years ago) link
Yeah Where I'm Going is big bullshit but the rest is so good. Hanging Onto Every Heartbeat and Alisa are the two highlights for me.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 15 November 2013 18:44 (ten years ago) link
where i'm going is fine if a bit derivative
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 15:04 (ten years ago) link
so yeah, this album is pretty excellent
take note, The Rapture

at LAST
― rage against martin sheen (sic), Friday, 20 June 2014 02:07 (nine years ago) link
I got the vinyl for Christmas but didn't get round to playing it until last month. Had no idea that the vinyl was going to look so cool. https://cutcopy.gomerch.com/products/free-your-mind-vinyl
So yeah, won't be rushing out to buy a deluxe edition as much as I like this album.
Seeing them live for the first time next Wednesday. Should be a great gig as Classixx are supporting.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 20 June 2014 02:40 (nine years ago) link
cut copy live has generally always been a v good time
haven't seen them since 2011, however
― ginuwine's cousin (monotony), Friday, 20 June 2014 02:55 (nine years ago) link
Cut Copy live are brilliant, saw them at Optimo around the time of In Ghost Colours and it was such a sweaty, euphoric vibe.
― boxedjoy, Friday, 20 June 2014 11:05 (nine years ago) link
My friend saw them in London a couple of months ago and said it was like a big party. He also said there were a lot of Australians and he was surprised how old they looked.
I'm listening to Free Your Mind right now. Think this was one of last years most underrated albums.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 20 June 2014 14:05 (nine years ago) link
I don't think I've seen them live since 2007, but they used to be really good!
― MikoMcha, Saturday, 21 June 2014 14:17 (nine years ago) link
his vocals live sound horrible but yeah it's a really positive environment and really fun
― een, Saturday, 21 June 2014 14:43 (nine years ago) link
These guys were so great live. I can't remember the last time I danced that much at a gig. The new stuff sounded really so good but the In Ghost Colours songs were the main highlights. I always thought Lights & Music was one of the lesser songs on there and could never understand why it was a single but it sounded like an anthem. Hearts on Fire sounded huge and got the best reaction of the night. They ended with Need You Now which was just perfect. Even Where I'm Going sounded good. My only complaint is they didn't do Far Away but apart from that it was just such a great atmosphere and a great night.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 27 June 2014 16:18 (nine years ago) link
I should have said great more in that review.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 27 June 2014 16:24 (nine years ago) link
Did they play "Out There On The Ice"? That's the main song I really want to hear live from them.
― Star Gentle Uterus (DJP), Friday, 27 June 2014 16:29 (nine years ago) link
Yes they did. It was one of many highlights.

I was just thinking last week we're due a new Cut Copy album.
― Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Tuesday, 18 July 2017 23:41 (six years ago) link
They just a played by here last night week or so, at a fest. Heard they were great. Love the last three, lots.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 00:45 (six years ago) link
They were so good when I saw them just over three years ago. It was like a big party. I hope they announce a new album soon, they're very consistent.

I wish the outro went on for longer. It sounds like it's building to something but fades out too early.
― kitchen person, Thursday, 20 July 2017 14:31 (six years ago) link
Could be an outlier, too, like "Where I'm Going."
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 20 July 2017 14:33 (six years ago) link
And if not, I like the idea of Cut Copy cycling through various dance idioms. New Order, Summer of Love, Chicago house, now Chic ...
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 20 July 2017 14:38 (six years ago) link
would bet good money that the track that follows this on the album is an all-time banger

This album is just what I needed today. Love these guys so much.

"Standing in the Middle of a Field," which sounds like a synth-pop spin on early '80s Brian Eno.
Huh? Like, "On Land?" I don't get this. Anyway, super excited about this album, and surprised to learn that Astralwerks is still a label.

I've been re-listening to a ton of music the past two weeks, trying to put together my ILM EoY list. I have to admit I was initially let down by this album my first listen (I've adored everything by this band up to 2017, other than their debut album). But a few fresh listens recently I realize I was to harsh at first. I still think it's not one of their best albums, but I like most of it!
― Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Saturday, 13 January 2018 01:15 (six years ago) link
Grrrr.."Too harsh" obv.
I think the reason this album fell through the cracks a bit is because it's very much a generic ideal of what a Cut Copy album sounds like. Which is no bad thing, but five albums in it comes with no surprises. Its definitely as good as anything they've ever done though.
― boxedjoy, Saturday, 13 January 2018 10:12 (six years ago) link
Yeah, they can't all be the best Cut Copy album.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 13 January 2018 13:17 (six years ago) link
They'll never top In Ghost Colours which really is a perfect record for me, but I've found plenty to love on the last three as well. 2017 was a year when lots of my favourite artists put out good records that weren't up there with their very best. Cut Copy were definitely one of them. I've still gone back to Haiku From Zero a good amount and will be voting for it this week.
― kitchen person, Saturday, 13 January 2018 16:02 (six years ago) link
Anyone else listening to the new one?
Seems a lot more melancholic and downbeat than previous efforts - might need a few listens as nothing really jumps out at first and there's certainly no bangers like Out There On The Ice here
― chonky floof (groovypanda), Monday, 24 August 2020 14:16 (three years ago) link
I posted on a different Cut Copy thread that the entire album sounds like the underrated downbeat second side of an album everybody bought for the first three tracks on side one.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 August 2020 14:45 (three years ago) link
This seems to be the rolling Cut Copy thread. I played the new album Feaksout/Release over the weekend and it was decent. Not really a fan of the lead single but liked the album. First time have checked out something new by them and will revisit at some point this year.

You mean the ... Hot Chip album?
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 October 2022 18:41 (one year ago) link
I do how funny, This is what happens when I'm trying to take a break from my overwhelming day of work.
― Bee OK, Monday, 3 October 2022 18:49 (one year ago) link
Yeah, but I still listen to the older Cut Copy albums all the time, especially Abbey Road.
