New Criterion had a lot of coverage of modernist era arts back when I used to glance at it.

_Rudipherous_, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 23:44 (ten years ago) link

The original Criterion was started by T.S. Eliot after all, who some of us still read, though maybe not for his politics.

i've always liked moby more than his music. tho i love 'everything is wrong'

marcos, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 14:56 (ten years ago) link

also i LOVE ian mackaye's house. i'd be happy man if i had my own wood-shingle craftsman bungalow

marcos, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 14:59 (ten years ago) link

Isn't that now just the Virginia-based Dischord office? He lives in DC itself now, right?

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 18:42 (ten years ago) link

i have mixed feelings about looking at musicians' homes
on one hand, i want to see every tiny detail but also i cannot imagine such prying eyes around my home (not that anyone wants to see it but still) so i feel bad about looking

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 18:43 (ten years ago) link

guilt not necessary when the house is up for sale !

i.e. julian copes.

love some of the detail re his ..

the chairs with the names on the back.
the guitars fixed to the walls.

I know they aren't musicians but I couldn't find a more appropiate thread

soref, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 21:14 (ten years ago) link

Is there a thread like the 'what do you wish you looked like' thread, but for what you wished your home looked like?

Right?
That's like an hour away from me. If I could do my job remotely, I'd hop on that in a second.

Richard Ashcroft's new home plans for Taynton retreat

No photos of the inside, but apparently it "was built in 1660 and features a period bull-ring, a secret garden and an ornamental pond."

A bull-ring?

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 30 January 2014 21:08 (ten years ago) link

I question the rock stars who don't have a bull ring in their mansion.
