Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 11:11 (ten years ago) link

i've never been, but i bet it'd be good for some flanerie, even better a few hundred years ago

ogmor, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 12:38 (ten years ago) link

First time I've checked ILX today, and it's finally somewhere I've been! (assuming it actually is Seville, which it looks incredibly like)

ailsa, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 16:19 (ten years ago) link

THAT, is St. John's, Nfld.

(Although my first guess was Thunder Bay. "Canada" logo on the red building gave the game away)

This is an easy one I think.

goon tie: correct!

clouds, Thursday, 12 December 2013 14:09 (ten years ago) link

I'm kind of curious what the other guesses would have been for St Johns. Anybody care to post what they thought it might be, even knowing the answer?

We've had that one before, I think (recognise the bridge, can't remember where it is and am not loading all messages to find out!), but iirc it's in China/Japan/Korea somewhere.

ailsa, Saturday, 21 December 2013 15:21 (ten years ago) link

did a search for it, couldn't find. you are right to think it's in east asia, though.

clouds, Saturday, 21 December 2013 15:34 (ten years ago) link

I was way off on the one above. Could have sworn it was Guam.

fields of salmon, Wednesday, 19 February 2014 17:28 (ten years ago) link

St John's it is!

Huddersfield?

― Kim Wrong-un (Neil S)

Correct answer, I don't think there were many left it could have been!

cherry blossom, Thursday, 20 February 2014 13:36 (ten years ago) link

looked indefinably more Yorks than Lancs

Kim Wrong-un (Neil S), Thursday, 20 February 2014 13:53 (ten years ago) link

Yeah I thought so - W Yorks in fact - but I couldn't make it make sense in terms of what I recognise in Hudd (which I don't know amazingly well but which I've visited maybe 15 times). And it looked too big to be Dewsbury!

Tim, Thursday, 20 February 2014 14:05 (ten years ago) link

Guess the football ground must be just out of shot? Or hiding behind that hill? Still can't see Hudd in there!

Tim, Thursday, 20 February 2014 14:06 (ten years ago) link

Picture is taken from the south east facing north west, so the football ground would be out of shot to the right of the picture. I was more surprised at how unprominent the bus station was

Would guess either India or Bangla. Chittagong?

Yuri Bashment (ShariVari), Tuesday, 1 April 2014 22:09 (ten years ago) link

Ha, I was looking through some pics of Chittagong as well as this place. Photo is from a transport worker strike in 2009

The toxic-looking fog actually suggests Norilsk more than Surgut.
