I'm really high in the doom tourney (like 16 or 17?) but I figure I'll fall rapidly once the hunt ends tonight alas

otoh I'm presently in position for a PUNISHER cover in the hunt but I'll still be jolly if I pull the triple Wolvie covers (+ get enough hero points for a roster spot for IW)

Euler, Saturday, 14 December 2013 21:28 (ten years ago) link

playing with a level 47 doom paired with wolvie/daken (both in the 50s). i can get destroyed on a bad board, but with a good one i can clean up with very little loss of health. the really nice thing is all the boost tiles can starve out doom's attack tiles.

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Saturday, 14 December 2013 23:38 (ten years ago) link

i'm #1 on the hunt, dunno how well that'll hold out.
i have three red wolvie covers, would prefer two yellow to get that up to 4.

grinding relentlessly to assure my top 50 status in The Hunt. ends in about 75 min

Nhex, Sunday, 15 December 2013 17:44 (ten years ago) link

I want to grind but no missions are left; slipping into the 200s, ugh

Euler, Sunday, 15 December 2013 18:56 (ten years ago) link

Finished at five, maybe twenty points out of top three

Grrrrrr

Finished out at about 37; feels like a lot of work for a bad place, but that's what I get for daring to play other games / do other things besides play this yesterday. Booo. At least I'll get a Punisher card

Nhex, Sunday, 15 December 2013 19:05 (ten years ago) link

xp that bites!

Nhex, Sunday, 15 December 2013 19:09 (ten years ago) link

Got my red and green cards cant complain

I need more events. Doctors orders sucks.

Jeff, Sunday, 15 December 2013 19:27 (ten years ago) link

currently 2 in it!

Euler, Sunday, 15 December 2013 22:30 (ten years ago) link

It is giving me an opportunity to grind. 20 ISO-8 at a time.

Jeff, Monday, 16 December 2013 01:03 (ten years ago) link

First featured PVP that I've tried in earnest, was thinking that 400 points would be within each... then I found out that the points and opponents get harder the higher you climb. >_<

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Monday, 16 December 2013 01:09 (ten years ago) link

Broke 400 anyway in Doctor's Orders! Considered going for top 10, but that's a 70+ point gap and I just got destroyed again.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Monday, 16 December 2013 04:53 (ten years ago) link

my first top five finish! was #1 most of the day but things get nuts right at the end

Euler, Monday, 16 December 2013 05:17 (ten years ago) link

nice

Nhex, Monday, 16 December 2013 06:04 (ten years ago) link

How sad is it that I'm looking forward to the Xmas break so that I can really start grinding.

PS I think that prologue PVP is actually a good place to grind: you get to select who you face to a degree and, more importantly, know what rewards you're going to get -- even if it turns out that it'll take the same number of fights to earn them as you would need when playing PVE, because you have an objective measure (the PVP points) to track your progress.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Monday, 16 December 2013 17:41 (ten years ago) link

The current PVP weekly is basically the same thing as SHIELD training anyway, since there's no roster fill-ins, boosts or restrictions. It is a good source for 70/140 iso rewards if there's nothing else going on.

Nhex, Monday, 16 December 2013 17:49 (ten years ago) link

i'm enjoying that! good for 400 points at a 5 healing pack grind.

Current lineup is magNOW / thor / daken. that makes purple/blue/red/yellow/green ap weaponized, green matches put out attack buffs and if i can arrange for daken on the front line he will heal most of his damage back. i'm finding that to be a good mix and am slowly levelling mag throughout the tourney.

if i see another 85 thor / 85 classic storm i am going to barf gems

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Monday, 16 December 2013 19:48 (ten years ago) link

i start with +3 all/+3 red and yellow /+3 blue and purple. so before the match starts, i do thor's red attack and can generally follow up with the yellow in about three moves. That's enough to take out a high level daken or storm. By then i can play mags purple and two blues with the bonus on that and by turn five or six i generally have one character left to beat, minimal damage and am most of the way to rebuilding a thor red/yellow attack.

xp lol that's me with the 85 Thor/Storm. GRIND!

Nhex, Monday, 16 December 2013 20:02 (ten years ago) link

is this down? I'm having repeated server issues.

workin' fine for me

Nhex, Monday, 16 December 2013 21:22 (ten years ago) link

Works for me. I'm getting my ass handed to me in this no holds barred event.

Jeff, Monday, 16 December 2013 21:42 (ten years ago) link

fixed, home router issues.
604 pts and #1 ranking on this one. i need to tank something soon for sure tho.
i'm curious to see if i can get to 1400 and get invisible woman that way. i think i can add about 300 points per sitting and i lose about 150 between sittings... so if I do five more sessions...

problem is that the rewards DROP precipitously when you're in the pole position... all my fights give like 8 points now.

the trick is to keep hitting skip until you hit people that a) have more points than you or at least similar points to you (to give a good payoff) or b) are at least so underwhelming compared to you that they won't retaliate and take back 30 pts for the paltry 8 you got.

tempted to sit this one out entirely because wow not thinking about playing this game for a whole day is like "hello life, where did you go".

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Monday, 16 December 2013 23:15 (ten years ago) link

probably a good idea in the long run

Nhex, Monday, 16 December 2013 23:18 (ten years ago) link

this tourney is kind of a drag

Euler, Monday, 16 December 2013 23:23 (ten years ago) link

Hopefully enough of people think that so that I can come in and clean up.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 00:18 (ten years ago) link

Would I be a sucker if I actually shelled out for this game? I have a Magneto cover that's going to expire in just under two days, then a while bunch of covers a few days after that.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 04:14 (ten years ago) link

You're always a sucker if you shell out for any F2P game honestly, but if you do it, do it as a gesture of support for a quality product rather than starting a gambling addiction. Also, wait until the last day possible, you never know when you'll suddenly be able to get Hero Points.

Nhex, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 04:21 (ten years ago) link

LOL a gambling addiction that won't return any remuneration. Ok, if I'm in a bind, I'm willing to send my Bullseye packing.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 04:53 (ten years ago) link

Got invisible woman on a heroic recruit card tonight. Wasn't expecting that.

Jeff, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 05:18 (ten years ago) link

Points in this game are the only real currency. Don't listen to the haters.

mh, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 05:19 (ten years ago) link

You're always a sucker if you shell out for any F2P game honestly

I don't know if I agree with this. MTX like this typically exist to save the user grinding time. That's the case here -- you could buy 100 points, or you could place in the top X number in two tournaments. One of these requires a lot of upkeep. One costs $X. You're paying to more quickly access the game. If, say, they set it up *just so* that you got that card but had no spot for it and had to pay but they used the ruse of "oh, it's random!" then yes, that would be a "sucker" making move.

Point is: it's there to let you accelerate without the grind, but the grind is also fun.

I'd say fuck bullseye anyway tho. He's a boob.

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 16:03 (ten years ago) link

dudes who make this game hiring for a prod now

want to move into prod in the next 18 months or so

in a real funk @ my job atm

omg want to apply so bad

is cambridge mass nice? i'm canadian i don't know anything

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 16:12 (ten years ago) link

go for it!

we're allocating green cards for marvel puzzle quest development? I guess I can agree that's crucial

mh, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 16:40 (ten years ago) link

i agree, go for it, what's the worst that can happen? life is already crushing disappointment

the game is straight-up designed to even have a grind/acceleration eased by paying unlimited amounts of cash, so yes you = sucker for buying into it. i'm not even 100% against it if the game is good, but let's be honest about it, it's horrific business model akin to gambling. you're not even buying cards directly, you're buying slot machine tokens!

i don't see this in the same category as "pay x to unlock features you'd normally get later in the game" since there is no endpoint in this model. (this is merely slightly distasteful rather than evil)

Nhex, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 16:41 (ten years ago) link

if you offered me two red rags for ten bucks, i would likely take you up on it.

let me clarify

lol no canadian i know who has moved to the states for work thus far has gotten anything more than a temporary work visa
green cards not flowing for vg development

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 16:49 (ten years ago) link

can we work a swap? I kind of wanted to live in canada for a while

mh, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 16:51 (ten years ago) link

forks, you're a disgusting pervert

Nhex, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 17:09 (ten years ago) link

lol there's ILG's new motto.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 17:53 (ten years ago) link

immortality is mine

I'm starting to get the feeling of why am I playing this, and to what end with this game. Still very addictive though.
