sorry, i mean i gather the same is also true of hulk

endgame? lol there won't be any endgame until you just get sick of it. i'm surprised we haven't already gotten a new character/campaign since Hulk ended, but i suppose they deserve a vacation

i imagine you need lvl 100+ characters to beat those crazy lvl 240 missions they stick in the story episodes. the only one i have with another covers to get there is Iron Man 40 (at lvl 96), and i'm gonna need a lot more ISO for everybody

hulk has a recharge thing?

Nhex, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 06:03 (ten years ago) link

I feel like I need to know more Marvel lore for the boosts. Does Wolverine count as a mutant? How do I know who's in the X-Men?

zanarkand bozo (abanana), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 06:25 (ten years ago) link

they're pretty bad about that honestly - they really should make it more clear. i'm a hardcore Marvel Zombie and I'm not sure if the Anti-Brotherhood or Mutant boosts affect Juggernaut. (let's not even get into the "is Spider-Man a mutant?" thing)

Nhex, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 06:43 (ten years ago) link

I started playing IM40/Wolverine/Daken in the current tourney, which has been super fun (if I can get a double recharge, it is usually game over)

SHAUN (DJP), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 12:35 (ten years ago) link

Also, they could solve the boost issue with icons on the character stat page pretty easily

SHAUN (DJP), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 12:36 (ten years ago) link

the level 240 missions were totally doable with somewhat weaker teams, although you won't win every time -- i got them all the first hulk event at least once. wolvie + spidey + lots of boosts. it helped a bunch that wolvie and spidey were buffed for the event. the key against rags & overpowered juggs is to a) play defensively and just deny red matches as much as possible and b) know when there's enough red for a headbutt and make sure yr least essential character gets taken down by it. beyond that, build up strike tiles, and build up blue for stunlock. i also had a very dramatic match where everyone was taken down in my team but cap with about 200 health, and he was left facing juggs with maybe 2000 health? i had just enough blue to keep juggs in a stun loop and whittle him down.

finding that starting with 1 green/black +3 boost I can beat anyone in the double up tourney with wolvie + model 40 + thor

hulk & punisher are gonna be fab if I can hang in there that long

Euler, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:02 (ten years ago) link

I finally got all the rewards in the regular levels. Kind of sad, I don't like having to grind with the events.

Jeff, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:08 (ten years ago) link

Thor is prob a better tank but I just like spamming the board full of Daken tiles and then matching them away to make room for stronger Wolvie tiles while IM40 pumps reds

swapping between Wolvie and Daken and watching them heal up from dmg while the other one tanks for a bit is also fun

SHAUN (DJP), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:10 (ten years ago) link

My level 38 original black widow is awesome, great for expedited healing. Just go to a lower level, focus and getting the blues and then use maxed out anti-gravity device. 500+ health each time.

Jeff, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:00 (ten years ago) link

And if you do it on a spidey level, you can use his yellow power as well.

Jeff, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:01 (ten years ago) link

I typically use "Rocket Men" in the Osborn chapter - it's 3 weak Hammer soldiers, I can usually get off one or two OBW heals in a run. Even if you get hit, it's only a few hundred HP. Any other good safe stages for this sort of thing?

Nhex, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:10 (ten years ago) link

I use venom - tall dark nasty. Just block him from getting black.

Big reason why I quit. Back to lurking...

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:48 (ten years ago) link

Recharge >>>>> Anger (not that Anger isn't useful, esp with Wolvie/Daken)

SHAUN (DJP), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 18:07 (ten years ago) link

heavily levelled anger can knock out two players! I've been ganked by it a few times now.

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 18:36 (ten years ago) link

yes, that's one of the reasons I think Hulk is gonna be a great team player, once I get him leveled a bit more

in my double up tourney I just got ahead of two people using shields; I guess it just locks your score, but not your place in the tourney, so you could still fall back. it keeps you from having to grind to keep your score, but it doesn't prevent others from leaping ahead of you. so it seems like an even dumber thing to spend ca$h on now than I thought before

Euler, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 19:55 (ten years ago) link

I was just in a lightning round match where the other guy's HP doubled after the first turn. How'd that happen? I still won.

zanarkand bozo (abanana), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 20:57 (ten years ago) link

8 hours until tourney end, shields having noticeable effects: half the top 10 in my bracket have shields (and several who fell below), and this is the first tourney I've seen where people have hit the max pts for non-leaderboard rewards AND exceeded it - in this case, 1400pts for X-Force Wolverine. I may try to grind for this before I go to bed. #1 spot currently has 1682pts!

Nhex, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 05:32 (ten years ago) link

nhex War Journal:
Seeing as how I was able to get through the whole rewards ladder for Double Shot, I got that X-Force Wolverine and 150HP along the way. I grinded my way to #1 last night and bought an 8 hour shield, which cost 100HP, so I'm still coming out ahead. In the morning, pretty much everyone in the top 10 except one or two players were shielded, who were furiously grinding to get to #1. I ended up somewhere in the top 5, which is what I was aiming for, I just wanted a Blue Spider-Man card. (I've would've been happy with Top 15 just for that reward.)

Important thing to note is that when you or anyone is shielded, they can still be attacked - the shield just protects you from losing points (I saw that I was attacked once overnight, and would've lost 49 points, which would've knocked me down a tier). You still gain points for beating a shielded player, so you can keep attacking them over and over again and they won't lose points while you'll keep gaining them indefinitely. That's why the point totals have gotten so inflated. The great benefit of this is that it makes it much easier to grind your way through those guaranteed rewards.

Steam says I've put 100 hours in. Here's my roster.

Black Widow ** - Lvl 57 - 3/4/4
Iron Man * - Lvl 48 - 5/3/5
Storm * - Lvl 45 - 5/4/4
Wolverine ** - Lvl 36 - 3/5/1
Spider-man *** - Lvl 28 - 2/0/1
Juggernaut * - Lvl 26 - 5/5
Black Widow *** - Lvl 25 - 0/2/0
Hulk *** - Lvl 25 - 2/0/0
Thor ** - Lvl 22 - 3/1/2
Magneto ** - Lvl 21 - 0/3/0
Storm ** - Lvl 19 - 2/1/2
Daken ** - Lvl 15 - 4/2
The Hood *** - Lvl 15 - 0/1/0
Cap America ** - Lvl 8 - 0/1/1
Hawkeye ** - Lvl 8 - 1/0/1
Bullseye ** - Lvl 7 - 1/2/0

Just sold a maxed Modern Black Widow for a few extra O. BW levels and a slot. Should I bother with IM35 and Modern Storm or should I just go straight to Wolverine/Thor/Daken?

zanarkand bozo (abanana), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 18:50 (ten years ago) link

model 35 isn't strong enough for the bigger battles imo

classic storm > modern storm

Euler, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:01 (ten years ago) link

IM35 kind of falls in line with Captain America as an HP tank with good support abilities

Nhex, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:20 (ten years ago) link

model 35's shields are decent, I'll give you that. so are the good captain's, but his cost too much

btw I saw you again, Nhex, in PvP, but I skipped you this time since your team looks like a beast

Euler, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:23 (ten years ago) link

I always have buyers regret when leveling up. Can never decide should I build up new people or just keep trying to max out my A team.

Jeff, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:35 (ten years ago) link

I've decided to follow a threshold strategy. Basically, I am picking a cornerstone character to level to a particular plateau (at this point, lvl 60) and alternating that with leveling characters I haven't maxed on cards yet to their current ceiling, with the idea being that I'll have a front line all about the same level with a bunch of backups at a high enough level to be worth using if a front liner dies, avoiding the need to use health packs.

SHAUN (DJP), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:51 (ten years ago) link

I am still waiting for the opportunity to level up any of my two, three, or four star cards.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:53 (ten years ago) link

taking my wolvie to max made a huge difference in my success, so I've been putting most of my iso-8 into my other a-teamers, Thor & model 40. but they cost SO much to level that I get impatient and level up b-teamers like classic storm and captain america too. I want to be ready when they buff new heroes.

Euler, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:56 (ten years ago) link

I seriously adore the IM40/Wolvie combo

pop a recharge, protect the countdowns, load up on strike tiles during IM40 stun, hit Adamantium slash, boom practically any opposing character you want to target is dead

SHAUN (DJP), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 20:01 (ten years ago) link

even better if you can pile up enough yellow matches to roll two Recharges at once

Euler, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 20:09 (ten years ago) link

euler: heh, i'll keep looking out for "Jex" to stomp...

poly: every time there's a lightning round or opportunity to get a Standard Recruit Token, hit it (even it's just two battles in a lightning round), you'll get a 2* card or better about 15% of the time. Through the Hulk levels and the various lightning rounds I've grabbed about 200 Standard tokens and only 20 Heroic, so your best strategy is to keep going after Standard Tokens until you can start placing in tourneys

djp: yup, that's what i'm doing with a maxed Thor, so I use the reds for him, the greens for wolvie, and yellow for recharge or thor finisher

Nhex, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 20:16 (ten years ago) link

you'll get a 2* card or better about 15% of the time.

That has not been my experience thus far.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 20:19 (ten years ago) link

yes, when using thor + model 40 it's tough to decide whether to hit the recharge or go for the thunder strike. I find myself doing the latter a bunch because it's so fun to bring down 2000+ damage in a hit (augmented by the bazillion wolvie strike tiles I've placed by then)

Euler, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 20:39 (ten years ago) link

xp Of course, you'll get a ton of 1* cards before a 2* or 3* so it feels like forever. On my own 187 drops that I've tracked:

82.89% 1*
13.37% 2*
3.74% 3*

Those guys at the D3P forums' numbers are similar:

Chance of 1* 5168 83.03%
Chance of 2* 898 14.43%
Chance of 3* 158 2.54%
