Just watched that blindfolded Mike Tyson's Punch-Out run, so great! Absolutely love the moments of focused audience silence followed by rapturous, crashing applause upon TKO.

Also liked the flavor audience with Cookie Monster McLovin' and Giant Pirate Hat

Just realized this was by one of the guys (sinister1) who tried to make that awesome MTPO coffee table book on Kickstarter before Nintendo squashed it

it's actually mostly a discussion about how marital fidelity when one partner is in the military is pretty weak

Sorry to hear about the divorce, but what could be a better cure than Xbox and GameCube?!

aren't we all "beautiful, feminine women" under our "power suits of cybernetic armor", though?

Dan I., Friday, 31 January 2014 18:29 (ten years ago) link

The games themselves are suspiciously well-contested. Those who grew up in the 1980s and '90s remember when every other Super Bowl was a categorical whoopin'. Over the last decade, every Super Bowl has been fairly close, and most have remained in doubt until the very end. That is fun, but so is a popsicle. Nothing is more grimy or provocative than a whoopin'.
Bet he's happy tonight!

I showed a friend this yesterday and we proceeded to play through uninterrupted for about 5 1/2 hours straight, beating the game once and getting about 1/4 way through finding all the secret ties. It is amazing and you will constantly be laughing at the ridiculous situations the octopus gets in. You play as an octopus who somehow has a human family, and the controls are QWOP-style awkwardness that is really difficult to get the hang of at first, but once you do it is really amazing what you can do as an octopus. Probably the most surreal and absurd game I've ever played!

The writing in it is wonderful too. It has a nice amount of heart and (very light) cynicism, plenty of humor, and a great story arc.

The reviews have been sort of mild, cos it does have a steep learning curve wrt controls. But most of the fun is watching this octopus in a tuxedo utterly destroying human environments while people around you just stop and stare and try and figure out what the hell is going on.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 10 February 2014 17:11 (ten years ago) link

Ha, that does look really charming, especially as Octodad reminds me of Prof. Zoidberg. Love the idea of just crashing around into stuff, flailing tentacles all over the place.

"How many of you have autism, and has it helped you in your modding career?"

polyphonic, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 00:21 (ten years ago) link

Yeah but c'mon, an autistic kid would a) really want to hear a positive answer to that question and b) be less likely to realise it wasn't really an ok thing to ask in public. Give 'em a break.
