btw, there is a sweet spot - maybe ~30 points between you and your opponent? where you can knock yourselves around back and forth, but still both gain points, watch for this edge to disappear. always compared the points you lost in retaliation to how many you would gain.

Nhex, Thursday, 16 January 2014 20:10 (ten years ago) link

oh good god I was just playing my second/third string characters for the heck of it and ended up in a match with classic spidey, with only the passive protection power

basically sitting there pinging at each other until I died

mh, Thursday, 16 January 2014 20:14 (ten years ago) link

example: I have 100, opponent has 200. I will gain 25 points by winning, he will probably drop by 20.
Now I'm 125, and he is 180. He can retaliate and gain about 10 points. It's not worth the time/energy to do this when you can fight someone up the ladder.

Are these numbers that MMR thing I've read about, or vague level average of your highest-leveled characters?

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Thursday, 16 January 2014 20:15 (ten years ago) link

i think it's the MMR thing, but the number I'm referring to is your "points" ranking for that individual tourney that you gain/lose after fights

Nhex, Thursday, 16 January 2014 20:16 (ten years ago) link

Ah! Thanks.

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Thursday, 16 January 2014 21:42 (ten years ago) link

OK, 50 HP from buying ("buying") a new roster spot, with 3 Ares, 2 Moonstones, and 1 Daken (who is not on my roster yet). I assume that Daken is the most dispensable (since I still haven't won his covers from that Prologue mission), so that leaves the debate between Ares and Moonstone. Any ideas?

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Friday, 17 January 2014 17:20 (ten years ago) link

Oh and I drew a yellow Thor last night, so now it's 2/3/2 and maxed to I think 37, which means I could increase C Storm's level as well (for coverage reasons)!

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Friday, 17 January 2014 17:23 (ten years ago) link

I don't know what the take on Ares is yet. I have him l26 with three yellow and three green covers now (his max is l37 now). I've mostly stayed out of the buffed Ares tourney so far, maybe I should give it a try. think it's cool that the current Hunt is a good way to collect a bunch of Ares cover, though the downside will be when my heroic tokens start turning out lots of Ares & my character's already maxxed.

speaking of which: still no daily rewards, more than a week now

Euler, Friday, 17 January 2014 17:32 (ten years ago) link

http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2212

ares is a good meatshield (especially when buffed); upper level 40+ players have like 14K hit points and really suck to take down.

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Friday, 17 January 2014 17:37 (ten years ago) link

Euler, is the clock on your device set to automatically detect the time? If not, then that might be holding things up.

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Friday, 17 January 2014 17:41 (ten years ago) link

glad to see that others are getting the same thing, hope they resolve it soon

mostly leveling the cap for now; I've really gotten into the blue shield attack against e.g. Daken & Bullseye, and on countdown boards. he's a versatile utility guy who can also tank. I'm pretty much happy with him, Thor, or Model 40 as a tank alongside wolvie and whoever else I'm stuck using

xp yeah my iPhone auto detects time

Euler, Friday, 17 January 2014 17:48 (ten years ago) link

the realization that Cap can take away strike/shield tiles made him into a mandatory character for the past week for me, esp since he is buffed in The Hunt

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 17 January 2014 17:49 (ten years ago) link

timing that current ares thingy so that I end up with three classic Storm covers. I'm leaning on classic Storm as my go-to, might as well buff her

mh, Friday, 17 January 2014 17:51 (ten years ago) link

she's great but she can't take much damage; but she'll survive a battle or two

Euler, Friday, 17 January 2014 17:52 (ten years ago) link

the realization that Cap can take away strike/shield tiles made him into a mandatory character for the past week for me, esp since he is buffed in The Hunt

This has been a huge reason that I've cottoned to using him now too, in addition to his AP recovery thing.

Do/did people just use those abilities to make 4+ matches to get rid of enemy countdown tiles?

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Friday, 17 January 2014 18:04 (ten years ago) link

for the yellow ability, sure, since you get 3

Nhex, Friday, 17 January 2014 18:47 (ten years ago) link

i may try cap for that reason, specifically to negate the second half of that fucking ares yellow attack

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Friday, 17 January 2014 19:07 (ten years ago) link

...so is that a recommendation to buff Ares' Yellow? I'm still not sure which of his powers is worth it, though I like the Red group attack.

Nhex, Friday, 17 January 2014 19:47 (ten years ago) link

my take is that yellow is the def 5 and the others are more open to playstyle but somebody disabuse me of the notion

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Friday, 17 January 2014 19:48 (ten years ago) link

I think you're right. I don't really like the green blowback ability, so I'll probably go 3/5/5 GRY.

Nhex, Friday, 17 January 2014 20:17 (ten years ago) link

the general forum consensus is 4/4/5 since the last point in green doesn't help (you probably want to use it with more green anyway, for a bigger effect) and the last point in red only bumps the life threshold for increased damage a bit, but the next-to-last points increase damage on both directly, so are way more useful.

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Friday, 17 January 2014 20:22 (ten years ago) link

making it active on 30% vs. 25% health seems like it might be worth it, but i guess that's like a single attack difference...

Nhex, Friday, 17 January 2014 20:40 (ten years ago) link

My Model 35 Iron Man is at level 26. Should I put any more effort into him or save my riches for 2+ star characters?

mh, Friday, 17 January 2014 20:42 (ten years ago) link

If you have enough cards to take your 2* guys all the way, go for those, but Iron Man Model 35 lasted me a long time before I got to that point. maxed out at 50 he's a good filler hero for story missions and weak tourney matchups

Nhex, Friday, 17 January 2014 20:50 (ten years ago) link

iron man is a bullshit character once you max out thor/wolvie, don't sweat it

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Friday, 17 January 2014 20:52 (ten years ago) link

my main joy right now is using classic storm's blue ability to freeze the worst enemy while killing the other two instantly

mh, Friday, 17 January 2014 21:04 (ten years ago) link

Made Top 15 in Round 1 of the Ares tourney, got two Patch cards. Sweet.

Nhex, Saturday, 18 January 2014 05:05 (ten years ago) link

thanks for the heads up on that strategy nhex, it's been serving me well.
Top 15 for first round, currently in the same for second round.
your strategy seems to work to get into bronze and maybe silver position; gold is apparently for OCD types and/or people paying.

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 19 January 2014 17:23 (ten years ago) link

huzzah!

Nhex, Sunday, 19 January 2014 22:42 (ten years ago) link

We've added a feature to a future release that adds a small Iso-8 cost to skipping.

:\

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Monday, 20 January 2014 05:05 (ten years ago) link

nooooooooo!

Nhex, Monday, 20 January 2014 05:37 (ten years ago) link

when i read that i was really hoping it was an update to conferencecall.biz but thne i realized iso-8 is not an ACTUAL THING

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Monday, 20 January 2014 10:01 (ten years ago) link

define 'small' please, developers

mh, Monday, 20 January 2014 14:58 (ten years ago) link

Well, as long as you can get 20 iso-8 in ten seconds in the prologue levels, then it's hardly that big of a deal, right? Though it will be annoying.

Frederik B, Monday, 20 January 2014 15:15 (ten years ago) link

I probably skip between 10-20 fights for every one I actually do, so.. yeah. That's not good. They're really putting the brakes on now.

Nhex, Monday, 20 January 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

And like Euler, they still haven't fixed the daily reward for me

Nhex, Monday, 20 January 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

Went to work, forgot about the Ares tourney and it's over. Just another reason to hate my job.

Nhex, Monday, 20 January 2014 17:02 (ten years ago) link

people were really active on that one, knocked me down further than I wanted at the end :(

mh, Monday, 20 January 2014 17:04 (ten years ago) link

the leap from 16 to 15 was like 250 points, funk dat

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 January 2014 17:05 (ten years ago) link

i needed to be playing this last night apparently

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 January 2014 17:06 (ten years ago) link

after the Hunt I could max out my Ares, sitting on a green cover b/c I'd then be 5-3-5 & upthread the suggestion was that 4-4-5 was better. kinda cool though that the ares covers were so plentiful, though I still don't know how great he's gonna be (have him at l38 now)

I think I like the Hunt-like tourneys more than the PvP b/c the PvP are so boringly repetitive: fight yet another wolvie+thor, same old bullshit every time. & I do fine!

I had the best game the other day, totally tactical, beating a 125-125-125 moonstone-daken-raggie trio by figuring out where to drop the cap's blue shield, and on who, and where to drop the red shield, rather than adamantium slash. was nice to have to think!

Euler, Monday, 20 January 2014 17:07 (ten years ago) link

Well dropped from 18 to "top 75" in that Ares tourney. Three useless C. Storm cards. Now I'm dead last (500!) in the Divine Champions one.

Nhex, Monday, 20 January 2014 17:22 (ten years ago) link

agree w/u Euler, I find the big story campaigns a lot more fun. I actually get to break out the rest of the roster sometimes

Nhex, Monday, 20 January 2014 17:22 (ten years ago) link

I never got sick of using devil dinosaur either

Euler, Monday, 20 January 2014 17:33 (ten years ago) link

yeah, give me the fucking dino cover already

this harmless group of nerds and the women that love them (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 January 2014 17:47 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, PVE 4EVER! I'm still not at the point where I can finish off the last missions on each stage (where the enemy's levels are all over 100), but I was surprised how well I managed farming from the other missions.

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Monday, 20 January 2014 18:18 (ten years ago) link
