lol you didn't win that from Diamond Joe Biden in a high-stakes poker game, did you?

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Friday, 17 January 2014 01:42 (ten years ago) link

Veg, are you volunteering for George Michael/WHAM! poll?

Ismael Klata traded out his front-man/front-women idea and change it to this:
94. George Michael - Ismael Klata

Bee OK, Friday, 17 January 2014 02:21 (ten years ago) link

Oh, I thought it was the new WHAM! Lineup

Mark G, Friday, 17 January 2014 08:00 (ten years ago) link

Make it so

Pre-Madonna (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 17 January 2014 08:12 (ten years ago) link

It's the role I feel I can do

Ismael Klata, Friday, 17 January 2014 08:18 (ten years ago) link

i would be up for doing a No Wave poll, or is that too esoteric?

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Monday, 20 January 2014 21:49 (ten years ago) link

i feel like that would be fun, because it's an area i've always been curious about, and theoretically it's a narrow enough categorization that i could probably listen to all the nominated records as a crash course in no wave and be able to vote.

Algerian Horsebeater (some dude), Monday, 20 January 2014 23:01 (ten years ago) link

can we skip all the polls between the next poll and my poll?

flopson, Monday, 20 January 2014 23:08 (ten years ago) link

super down for no wave

flopson, Monday, 20 January 2014 23:08 (ten years ago) link

too esoteric? i mean we're doing a Sightings poll...

flopson, Monday, 20 January 2014 23:09 (ten years ago) link

it's pretty cool that we should be hitting the Outkast poll right around the time they'll be touring. it's fun when the timing of the polls feels accidentally fortuitous, like when the Neptunes poll went down circa the Pharrell comeback last summer.

Algerian Horsebeater (some dude), Monday, 20 January 2014 23:26 (ten years ago) link

i am not sure that raymond understood what this thread was about btw cos shorly after he said he wanted to do a sightings poll he went ahead and did this:

Who needs a clever title for vicious industrial noise rock par excellence? The SIGHTINGS studio album poll

xp

tench and pike, scaup and snipe (NickB), Monday, 20 January 2014 23:26 (ten years ago) link

oh wait, see the last post in that thread

tench and pike, scaup and snipe (NickB), Monday, 20 January 2014 23:28 (ten years ago) link

I'd vote in No Wave. As with all genre polls someone is going to have to do border policing.

the right stfu (seandalai), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 01:36 (ten years ago) link

I still think a Sightings poll is too niche for this kind of thing. I mean, only 15 people voted in a simple one-thread albums poll.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 21 January 2014 01:39 (ten years ago) link

xp - I'd probably go with what is covered in the Marc Masters book and limit it to a certain time period + reissues, but no Daydream Nation or Golden Palominos from the late 80s, for example

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 01:52 (ten years ago) link

I'd vote in No Wave. JF otm re Sightings.

Just bumping for no good reason except to say CLASSIC ROCK FUCKYEAHHHHHHHH *barfs on shoes*

"CLASSIC ROCK FUCKYEAHHHHHHHH" from me too

g simmel, Saturday, 1 February 2014 15:09 (ten years ago) link

i just found myself waiting for the laundry to finish and listening to 'Eye in the Sky' and realizing how creepy that song sounds when you actually sing it. In other words, bring on the classic rock!

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Saturday, 1 February 2014 15:46 (ten years ago) link

In the meantime, I think the Roxy/Ferry poll should go forward along with the classic rock poll, since some dude is going to have a period of determining the pool of songs. Charlie H, ready to roll with that?

Iago Galdston, Saturday, 1 February 2014 16:47 (ten years ago) link

someone plz remind me when the steely dan poll starts

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Saturday, 1 February 2014 17:19 (ten years ago) link

happy to kick off the Roxy poll, yeah. will put it up tomorrow morning, or possibly later this evening if i'm home.

charlie h, Sunday, 2 February 2014 03:09 (ten years ago) link

I'd vote in a no wave poll.

Sorry if I've misunderstood how polls work. I'm a little nervous about my second sightings poll, actually - there doesn't seem to be much interest yet. Maybe I care about shit that's just too obscure for ILM?

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 2 February 2014 12:38 (ten years ago) link

Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry is in progress, just in case there's anyone who hasn't seen it yet: Weary of the waltz and mashed POLLtato schmaltz: The Roxy Music & Bryan Ferry Ballot Poll Thread

330,003 Luftballons (WilliamC), Wednesday, 5 February 2014 01:38 (ten years ago) link

responding pretty late, but I am big into a No Wave poll!

Viceroy, Wednesday, 5 February 2014 22:54 (ten years ago) link

Perhaps this has been discussed before, but would be people interested in a DFA poll? If there is interest, I would volunteer for that.

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 9 February 2014 01:34 (ten years ago) link

My familiarity nosedives after a certain point, but it'd be fun to catch up on the more recent stuff.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 February 2014 01:39 (ten years ago) link

dfa would be dope. isn't no wave just 4 bands tho? and largely one album? never knew there was more to it

flopson, Sunday, 9 February 2014 01:45 (ten years ago) link

i mean i guess whoever those other 10 bands were on the bill the night that brian eno went to that show? but did they ever record and didnt half of them drop off the bill? is anything known about them

flopson, Sunday, 9 February 2014 01:52 (ten years ago) link

I can't lie, I'm getting antsy for the classic rock poll.

WilliamC, Thursday, 13 February 2014 18:55 (ten years ago) link

Anyone know what the parameters of that is going to be? Are 80s power ballads considered classic rock now?

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Thursday, 13 February 2014 19:01 (ten years ago) link

classic rock poll destined for clusterfuck

Are 80s power ballads considered classic rock now?

guh, I hope not.

I think some dude is planning to synthesize a master voting/nominations list from a few sources, but he's the official source for all this, so I'm speaking out of turn.

WilliamC, Thursday, 13 February 2014 19:41 (ten years ago) link

can someone stick me down at the end of the queue for a 60s rock/weird hard n heavy type poll please.)like the 80s & 70s one)
If im still alive when it comes round i'll do it,

۩, Thursday, 13 February 2014 23:50 (ten years ago) link

I'd also like to to Mike Patton at some point, but already down for NIN so maybe I'll wait a few years to volunteer for that one.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Thursday, 13 February 2014 23:54 (ten years ago) link

If someone else wants to do Mike Patton I wouldn't mind in the slightest BTW.

i'm not gonna overlap with the "favorite albums of all time" poll that just came out of nowhere, so see ya in a few months.

kadeem hardsonned (some dude), Friday, 14 February 2014 00:02 (ten years ago) link

ya honestly fuck that noise

flopson, Friday, 14 February 2014 00:03 (ten years ago) link

that poll wont finish til end of april or something fwiw

۩, Friday, 14 February 2014 00:05 (ten years ago) link

so no reason why classic rock poll cant be done and dusted by then?

۩, Friday, 14 February 2014 00:06 (ten years ago) link

any reason why the other one didn't politely get in line like dozens of others have?

kadeem hardsonned (some dude), Friday, 14 February 2014 00:07 (ten years ago) link

GOOD QUESTION

EZ Snappin, Friday, 14 February 2014 00:09 (ten years ago) link

yeah that was a little weird now that i think about it
also i always vote for my favorites

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Friday, 14 February 2014 00:10 (ten years ago) link

ppl probably don't need to do much listening for a classic rock poll

mookieproof, Friday, 14 February 2014 00:15 (ten years ago) link

any really!

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Friday, 14 February 2014 00:15 (ten years ago) link

I would like to know why this all time thing gets precedence.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 14 February 2014 00:28 (ten years ago) link

yeah that's bullshit

because it was started impulsively by someone obsessed with polls

flopson, Friday, 14 February 2014 00:34 (ten years ago) link

Looking closer at the S-K thread, I see I actually used something above 90 points as the floor, with 50th place having 6 votes and 97 points.
