drake was solid imo

balls, Sunday, 19 January 2014 06:14 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, dude was funny.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 January 2014 07:41 (ten years ago) link

I missed the first 15 mins, but I'll catch it on hulu tomorrow.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 January 2014 07:41 (ten years ago) link

i just posted this on twitter; then again i've been drinking:

Drake is really funny! SNL should hire him and curtail his rap career -- like Will Smith without the crap Oscarbait post-apocalypse sci-fi.

I mean, The Fresh Prince was funny before he went mersh/scieno; maybe Drake's latent Bar Mitzvah Boy has better things in store.

Esa-Pekka Merkerson (get bent), Sunday, 19 January 2014 09:14 (ten years ago) link

also from twitter:

Sasheer Zamata is a star; she barely did anything and she's already Kate McKinnon levels of burning up the TV screen.

Esa-Pekka Merkerson (get bent), Sunday, 19 January 2014 09:24 (ten years ago) link

he was pretty incredible i thought

his katt williams was absurdly good

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 January 2014 14:56 (ten years ago) link

people say this about timberlake but i think drake could actually be on the cast... he's got a lot more charisma than any of the white dudes they added as featured players this season

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 January 2014 14:58 (ten years ago) link

timberlake is super tryhard too but drake was smooth

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 January 2014 14:58 (ten years ago) link

also kate mckinnon's bieber was SCARY GOOD

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 January 2014 15:00 (ten years ago) link

Good Mornin' Miami should definitely keep recurring.

Bayer's poetry teacher wasn't as good as last time; the gulps/verbal tics felt forced.

Drake was great, best host of the year so far, shit, best cast member so far.

Zamata's timing was amazing.

Still don't know who most of the other new guys are. When AT&T Guy comes on I assume it's a commercial. Except he's not as funny as he is in the commercials. And he's not funny in the commercials.

Oh wait, Noel Wells, her Nancy Grace killed.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 19 January 2014 15:09 (ten years ago) link

Ugh, forgot about that awful Indiana Jones sketch. Really really fucking wrong and horrible.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 19 January 2014 15:11 (ten years ago) link

I guess that gif doesn't show up? Maybe this: http://cjzero.com/gifs/KateMcKinnonBieberSNL.jpg

So good.

Plasmon, Sunday, 19 January 2014 15:14 (ten years ago) link

How many Christie skits?

such a shame for them that the POTUS's crimes aren't funny

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 19 January 2014 15:40 (ten years ago) link

lol

Sufjan Grafton, Sunday, 19 January 2014 16:19 (ten years ago) link

i enjoyed the performance of aubrey drake graham in this episode of saturday night live

rhyme heals all goons (m bison), Sunday, 19 January 2014 18:00 (ten years ago) link

i caught only the news (pretty good as always) and the skit with drake and nasim p. in some kind of disney live show? was kind of unbearable. but i guess i should hulu this huh.

goole, Sunday, 19 January 2014 18:48 (ten years ago) link

Haven't seen the show in years until this episode. Loved the Bieber quick-shifts from shrug to pose.

tbd (Eazy), Sunday, 19 January 2014 18:58 (ten years ago) link

I was thinking last night that when Seth's last episode comes around in a couple weeks, Hader's coming back to do Stefon right? It's inevitable.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 January 2014 19:03 (ten years ago) link

indiana jones was prob weakest skit of the night but Drake worked it admirably. I kinda feel that Aidy doesn't have the greatest range, but she kills it, great in that slumber party skit.

episode was stolen by Taran's Eminem. That whole skit was great.

dan selzer, Sunday, 19 January 2014 19:14 (ten years ago) link

drake is kind of like the dean martin of the 2010's

Permanently drunk?

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Sunday, 19 January 2014 19:56 (ten years ago) link

shout out to the guy in the audience who turned around and said "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL" to Vanessa Bayer and then mimed cunnilingus to the camera

Haha!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 20 January 2014 01:43 (ten years ago) link

ugh, i was hoping for mulaney. maybe his sitcom will be good.

Mordy , Thursday, 23 January 2014 20:56 (ten years ago) link

He wrote some of the best update bits, so that's a good sign.

polyphonic, Thursday, 23 January 2014 20:57 (ten years ago) link

bah was hoping for Mooney

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:07 (ten years ago) link

Mooney is funny but he doesn't strike me as an update anchor type. the fact that this guy has worked on the show for almost 10 years and was never put in the camera in any significant way seems weird, but i guess we'll see if he's good.

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:36 (ten years ago) link

Mooney is funny

This is still unproven.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:44 (ten years ago) link

I thought Mooney was good on the frat pledge sketch, but other than that, meh.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:49 (ten years ago) link

nah I love his terrible NY comic guy routine

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:01 (ten years ago) link

Huh, I never realized that the show was looking for a co-anchor for Cecily Strong -- always assumed she'd just do it solo.

That said, I've never been particularly impressed with her on Update. She doesn't seem entirely comfortable with the format, like she's not sure how to react after she delivers the punchline. Which I guess makes sense, since her roots are in improv/sketch, but I just happened to watch Amy Poehler's Update debut the other day, and she had lots of charisma and confidence on day one.

jaymc, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:02 (ten years ago) link

Cecily is good but she definitely seems like half of a team -- to be the first solo anchor in over a decade now i think you'd have to have a really big persona that doesn't leave room for someone else

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:03 (ten years ago) link

well Seth was solo for a while i mean but he was part of a team for a good long while before that

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:04 (ten years ago) link

Btw, I think the addition of Sasheer Zamata made this season's cast the biggest since 1991-92.

jaymc, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:12 (ten years ago) link

we'll see who makes it to next season. it's gonna be a bloodbath.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:20 (ten years ago) link

Kate's Bieber was incredible.

Zamata was great, left way more of an impression than any of the new guys this year. Noel is slowly fitting in. I don't think they know what to do with Kyle Mooney besides putting him in those slightly surreal shorts, which I do like. I'm really struggling to see why Brooks Wheelan was hired at all. I can't tell the rest of the new guys apart.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 25 January 2014 23:44 (ten years ago) link

i don't necessarily want Beck Bennett to make the "adult with the body of a baby" thing a running character, but it would be nice if he did something else memorable and ensured his spot in the cast

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Sunday, 26 January 2014 02:06 (ten years ago) link

open + host monologue both hilarious to me

Mordy , Sunday, 26 January 2014 04:41 (ten years ago) link

6yo jonah hill is killing it

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Sunday, 26 January 2014 04:48 (ten years ago) link

is that a jackie mason he was doing?

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Sunday, 26 January 2014 04:51 (ten years ago) link

overly precocious upper west side jewish 6yo?

Mordy , Sunday, 26 January 2014 04:53 (ten years ago) link

so glad they have a more diverse cast so that they can cast black people as all the gangsters. progress!

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Sunday, 26 January 2014 04:55 (ten years ago) link

Jonah's done that 6yr old before. At least once. Still great imo

dan selzer, Sunday, 26 January 2014 05:41 (ten years ago) link

every single Kate McKinnon desk character is gold, but Olya might be the best.

Plasmon, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:29 (ten years ago) link

^ this

Yeah, Jonah's 6yo is a recurring character. Still on fire!

WTF is Bastille?
