Permanently drunk?

shout out to the guy in the audience who turned around and said "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL" to Vanessa Bayer and then mimed cunnilingus to the camera

Haha!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 20 January 2014 01:43 (ten years ago) link

ugh, i was hoping for mulaney. maybe his sitcom will be good.

Mordy , Thursday, 23 January 2014 20:56 (ten years ago) link

He wrote some of the best update bits, so that's a good sign.

polyphonic, Thursday, 23 January 2014 20:57 (ten years ago) link

bah was hoping for Mooney

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:07 (ten years ago) link

Mooney is funny but he doesn't strike me as an update anchor type. the fact that this guy has worked on the show for almost 10 years and was never put in the camera in any significant way seems weird, but i guess we'll see if he's good.

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:36 (ten years ago) link

Mooney is funny

This is still unproven.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:44 (ten years ago) link

I thought Mooney was good on the frat pledge sketch, but other than that, meh.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:49 (ten years ago) link

nah I love his terrible NY comic guy routine

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:01 (ten years ago) link

Huh, I never realized that the show was looking for a co-anchor for Cecily Strong -- always assumed she'd just do it solo.

That said, I've never been particularly impressed with her on Update. She doesn't seem entirely comfortable with the format, like she's not sure how to react after she delivers the punchline. Which I guess makes sense, since her roots are in improv/sketch, but I just happened to watch Amy Poehler's Update debut the other day, and she had lots of charisma and confidence on day one.

jaymc, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:02 (ten years ago) link

Cecily is good but she definitely seems like half of a team -- to be the first solo anchor in over a decade now i think you'd have to have a really big persona that doesn't leave room for someone else

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:03 (ten years ago) link

well Seth was solo for a while i mean but he was part of a team for a good long while before that

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:04 (ten years ago) link

Btw, I think the addition of Sasheer Zamata made this season's cast the biggest since 1991-92.

jaymc, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:12 (ten years ago) link

we'll see who makes it to next season. it's gonna be a bloodbath.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:20 (ten years ago) link

Kate's Bieber was incredible.

Zamata was great, left way more of an impression than any of the new guys this year. Noel is slowly fitting in. I don't think they know what to do with Kyle Mooney besides putting him in those slightly surreal shorts, which I do like. I'm really struggling to see why Brooks Wheelan was hired at all. I can't tell the rest of the new guys apart.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 25 January 2014 23:44 (ten years ago) link

i don't necessarily want Beck Bennett to make the "adult with the body of a baby" thing a running character, but it would be nice if he did something else memorable and ensured his spot in the cast

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Sunday, 26 January 2014 02:06 (ten years ago) link

open + host monologue both hilarious to me

overly precocious upper west side jewish 6yo?

Mordy , Sunday, 26 January 2014 04:53 (ten years ago) link

so glad they have a more diverse cast so that they can cast black people as all the gangsters. progress!

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Sunday, 26 January 2014 04:55 (ten years ago) link

Jonah's done that 6yr old before. At least once. Still great imo

dan selzer, Sunday, 26 January 2014 05:41 (ten years ago) link

every single Kate McKinnon desk character is gold, but Olya might be the best.

Plasmon, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:29 (ten years ago) link

^ this

Yeah, Jonah's 6yo is a recurring character. Still on fire!

WTF is Bastille?

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:32 (ten years ago) link

A terrible British band, I think (the British part, I know they're fucking terrible).

Anyway, tonight's episode was fucking dire compared to last week's.

Murgatroid, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:39 (ten years ago) link

i'm having more fun watching some like it hot. ilx should collectively move over to pbs

one time i thought i banged seal team six but it was actually sixteen seals

balls, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:49 (ten years ago) link

this episode was fantastic

balls, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:49 (ten years ago) link

I liked it too on the whole. Even the dinner at the boss's house sketch was funny in a painful way.

Cecily's YOU DON'T KNOW ME during Weekend Update was unexpected and fantastic.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:51 (ten years ago) link

I'm so done with Kyle Mooney tho, for real.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 26 January 2014 06:52 (ten years ago) link

I am not on board with Kyle Mooney.

The ex-porn stars needs to be the next SNL movie.

has anyone posted Heterosexual Mens Figure Skating?

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 January 2014 03:28 (ten years ago) link

Beck Bennett has solidified his place on the cast IMO; that sketch was objectively horrible and I still was cracking up at him

SHAUN (DJP), Wednesday, 29 January 2014 03:37 (ten years ago) link

I'm weirdly fascinated by this article on the SNL after-party:

jaymc, Saturday, 1 February 2014 06:08 (ten years ago) link

Show was humming along great until the museum sketch, which seems to have poisoned everything that came after it.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:03 (ten years ago) link

Also, QUIT PUTTING KYLE MOONEY ON TV.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:03 (ten years ago) link

I like Kyle Mooney. I did not like this episode. First half had some ok bits.

dan selzer, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:31 (ten years ago) link

liking the kyle mooney. first half was solid thx to melissa mccarthy but even she couldn't save the second half.

balls, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:36 (ten years ago) link

Kyle Mooney is still hit-or-miss. Sometimes, I'm on board but tonight's Super Bowl thing at the end was a dud - I just don't think I'll ever "get" Tim and Eric-style awkward humor (while I totally loved Tom Goes to the Mayor). That's what he was going for, right?

Murgatroid, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:39 (ten years ago) link

The episode as a whole needed more Kate McKinnon. She's the best.

Murgatroid, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:40 (ten years ago) link

She IS.

The Kyle Mooney thing at the end was one of his web characters that goes back a while pre-SNL. Lame on the web, lame on tv.

I knew they would bring Stefon back to send Seth off, but that whole thing fell a little flat. Too bad, because that will surely be the final time Stefon ever appears on SNL.
