Not nec. a frat, but here ya go:

A student Republican club at New York University is getting heat for organizing a "Find the Illegal Immigrant" game on campus tomorrow.

So, are they just going to go after the brown people, or well they broaden their attacks to folks from Eastern Europe, too?

ha got all like oooh when i saw this thread bumped - i love racist party almost as much as they do!

A student Republican club at New York University is getting heat for organizing a "Find the Illegal Immigrant" game on campus tomorrow.
Participants in the contest will try to win a gift certificate by being the first to point out a club member wearing a nametag reading "Illegal Immigrant."

thats their game? wtf sooo lame.

jh0shea, Friday, 23 February 2007 21:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha yeah, I couldn't help but imagine a bunch of unsuspecting Russian and Polish people wandering past on their way to work and suddenly being all "oh shit, is this serious? someone's taking a personal day." The Mexican references on the website just make me sad -- so far as I care, we need MORE Mexicans in NYC, cause the burrito options are a constant disappointment. But yeah, if they're clearly going for the "provocative" / "offending yr sensibilities" angle here, you'd think they could have come up with something somehow more offensive than just putting a nametag on a club member -- that's not even fun as a game.

I saw coverage on the news the night before and started thinking it'd be REALLY fun to put on a nametag that said "illegal immigrant" and just walk around the general vicinity like I was doing something else.

nabisco, Friday, 23 February 2007 22:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha and then act all offended when someone found me: "THAT'S MY NAME, YOU RACIST. IT'S PRONOUNCED EE-AY-HAL EYE-MEEG-RA-NUT."

From the facebook:

Group Info Name: We'll Never Forget Chief Illiniwek
Type: Sports & Recreation - College Sports
Description: He has performed since 1926. He has become the most hallowed tradition in all college sports. He is loved by students and alumni alike.

In the 80 years that he performed at Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall, there was no stirring and dignified tradition such as the incomparable Three-In-One. The great majority of the University community embraced him.

Yet recently, a vocal yet annoying minority threatened to try to retire the Chief. These people just did not fit in at the University of Illinois, and tried to make changes and get rid of something everyone loved. They were shot down year after year.

Now, a new enemy has risen, the NCAA. Instead of more important concerns (such as the graduation rates of some athletic programs), they are appealing to this overwhelming minority, and not allowing the University to host athletic tournaments. The University has finally caved in, and announced the retirement of the Chief.

This group is for those who died a little inside when the Chief was retired, and those who think they can still do something about it. Tell everyone you can to join, because Illinois will never forget it's Chief.

These are the men (and one woman) who have portrayed our beloved symbol of this university.

Recent News
Yes, I'm afraid it's true.

Spread the word, invite everyone, I want everyone in Illini Nation to join in so the University may one day have second thoughts about the Chief.

And lets do what we can about it. Like Brandon said, it's time for the silent majority to speak up. Remember we're not the "Sit-Down Illini," we're the "Fighting Illini."

However, there is still hope:

Argh, the mind-melting thing about the second one (and the comments) is the apparent inability of people to differentiate between why tacos, tequila, and pinatas might be reasonable elements of a Mexican theme party and pregnant-woman and gardener outfits not so much.

is it not true that he has to learn the real dances/chants? I really don't understand why the NCAA would retire a symbol of a university unless it sends a degrading message. This, obviously, does not. It honors tradition in a good way. I wonder how much malice and hate Florida Gator fans have in their hearts when they do the infamous "Gator Chomp"? Lets stop them from the multi-million dollar business of hosting tournaments. If the NCAA feels as though they need to make an example of someone, make it somewhere else. Go Illini!

I'm not usually one to get highly emotional about things, but I couldn't even sing along with the alma mater because I was choked up.

Frankly I don't see how Mexicans could possibly be pregnanter per capita than the women in my office in 2006. It was like a goddamn epidemic around here -- why doncha make a party about that, HUH?

Laurel, Friday, 23 February 2007 22:29 (seventeen years ago) link

And one more thing. Since it is common knowledge that ZBTs are complete and utter homos, why don't other houses have a "ZBTs Are Gay As Whiffle Ball Helmets Night"? Guys could crawl around on their knees, repeatedly drop and pick up bars of soap, play grab-ass football against Sammies, smoke-up Dewey's slobby self all night, and constantly recreate their infamous "common courtesy of the reach-around" technique. God, they are gay. And so, as revenge for their insensitivity (which is odd considering they are such pillow biters,) why doesn't't someone have that exchange? I'm quite certain some random ankle grabbers aka Acacia would love to accept the invitation to make that happen. Think about it.

LAUREL'S OFFICE-THEMED PARTY AT ZETA TAU ZETA TOMORROW NIGHT

max, Friday, 23 February 2007 22:33 (seventeen years ago) link

i just want to say FUCK POLITICAL CORRECTNESS! That aside, I seriously think that getting rid of Chief Illiniwek was a blow to the name of college sports. There are a lot of teams that are named after tribes and shit, do they have their mascot taken? No. The thing that pisses me off the most about this is that the stipulations to wear the costume are ridiculous. They HAVE to be a certain amount of Native American, they HAVE to have some sort of background in it. Not only that, but the dance is a real dance. Who in the hell do these people think they are? I say we get a petition to bring Chied Illiniwek back.
----------
I would like to personally thank Dan and the former Chiefs for their years of service in carrying on our proud tradition here at the University of Illinois. You all carried yourselves with dignity and class every time you set foot on the playing surface and I & my family appreciate it a great deal.
I would also like to remind the members of this group, that the Chief is retired but not gone or banned…With help and support I believe we can bring him back at a later time!
Judging by the numbers last night & today I would say, "the needs of the 'many' should be able to triumph over the complaints of a 'few'."
----------
Has anyone ever heard a comeback from anyone on why fighting irish is accepted and the Chief is so "racist" and "closeminded"? I don't understand why one is okay and is a sense of pride for a group of people, but another group of people, who people have tried hard not to offend, takes it all as an insult. It's a tribute to the state's past. I just don't understand it.
-----------
The guy who wrote that article in the post dispatch is a moron...he says that we have been ignoring this for years but he obviously did not do his homework because we had the blessing of the last cheif of the ancestors of the illini tribe. It wasn't until recently when the last cheif died and a new cheif was elected that the tribe changed thier mind....

hah here's a good one from the 'left'

I have a lot of opinions about this issue that probably aren't "politically correct" to post on this wall, but my question is this: Aren't there more important things going on in the world today that need to be dealt with than bitching about college mascots and symbols? For instance, why don't these people who must bitch about something put up a good fight to stop terrorism or child abuse or something of that nature. As a U of I alum, I can say their efforts would be much more appreciated in other areas than desecrating OUR CHIEF!!!!
