I bought the double-disc comp over Xmas just so's I could own the remastered hits. I must say, "Love in Store," which I never really cared for, sounds great in this context.

"Over and Over" takes it for me. But I'm still taking Lindsey Buckingham, way before either of the chicks.

What a weird thread...unless I missed something it's as if she joined the band in 1975 or something. Her only real flaw is her consistancy.

I know, what's wrong with these people who don't care about '73 and '74 Fleetwood Mac??
"Prove Your Love" is her best song. (Um, but there are a few on Tusk I'd put right beside it)
― Bimble, Sunday, 20 May 2007 00:34 (sixteen years ago) link
I'm going to have to give early and mid-period Mac a rest soon, 'cause it's starting to get excessive, but was just overwhelmed by the brilliance of McVie's "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" earlier today. "Boring" and "restrained"? Bah!

NOW YOU HAVE MADE ME PULL OUT MY COMPILATION MCVIE DISC. IT IS ALL YOUR FAULT.

BTW, "Spare..." is quite good, you are right.

"Come A Little Bit Closer" drives me to tears.

But "Prove Your Love" remains her best, and one of the few things in this whole wild world that could be better than the Cocteau Twins.
― Bimble, Sunday, 20 May 2007 02:00 (sixteen years ago) link
"Warm Ways" is the very definition of gorgeous.
Not much love for her solo work here, alas. "Got a Hold On Me" is one of my favorite solo Mac tracks.

I know...the solo work...ahem *cough cough*
we'll not mention that. :)
― Bimble, Sunday, 20 May 2007 02:01 (sixteen years ago) link
Though I do love her first solo album, but aside from that, um... *polite smile*
― Bimble, Sunday, 20 May 2007 02:02 (sixteen years ago) link
Hint: her first album wasn't in the 80's. It was 1970.
― Bimble, Sunday, 20 May 2007 02:05 (sixteen years ago) link
Also, everyone should know that Warm Ways rules.

Fuck you, why isn't Over and Over on that?
― I know, right?, Sunday, 20 May 2007 15:58 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't know! I don't have an answer for that except maybe I figured I'd just pull out Tusk instead. I was also angry at myself in the end because apparently I left off Never Forget and put Honey Hi in its place by total mistake...grrr...
But there IS only so much room on a disc.
― Bimble, Sunday, 20 May 2007 17:04 (sixteen years ago) link
Okay alright, I love Honey Hi though. The middle guitar bit is cool.

Vera Farmiga will join Aaron Eckhart in helmer Randall Miller's indie music biopic "The Drummer," about Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson.
Farmiga, who received an Oscar nomination for 2009's "Up in the Air" and recently made her directorial debut with "Higher Ground," will play notable Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter Christine McVie.
Miller is producing with scribe Jody Savin through their banner Unclaimed Freight Prods.(The pair were behind 2008's indie hit "Bottle Shock.") Music industry vet Brad Rosenberger also produces.
"The Drummer" follows six years in Wilson's life during which he and McVie sparked a passionate and tumultuous relationship before Wilson's death in 1983. Fleetwood Mac's album "Mirage," released in 1982, features the hit song "Hold Me," co-written by McVie and reportedly inspired by her love affair with Wilson.
Farmiga joins the project as a classically trained pianist. "She has a number of duets with Eckhart in the film," Miller noted. "The combination of Aaron and Vera will be pure magic."

Christine McVie rejoins Fleetwood Mac
More than 15 years after announcing her retirement from Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie is back in the fold. According to Fleetwood Mac News, Mick Fleetwod confirmed McVie’s return during a concert in Maui on Saturday night, telling the audience,”This is the worst kept secret there is, but Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac.”Last September, McVie reunited with her former bandmates in Fleetwood Mac during a concert in London. In a subsequent interview with the Guardian, she expressed a desire to rejoin the band permanently. “I like being with the band, the whole idea of playing music with them,” McVie explained. “I miss them all. If they were to ask me I would probably be very delighted… but it hasn’t happened so we’ll have to wait and see.”In response to McVie’s comments, Stevie Nicks told Billboard, “If Chris wants to come back to the band, I said to her, ‘It’s your band. I don’t really think you have to ask. Because it’s your band. McVie. Fleetwood Mac-vie? So, it all depends, Chris, on you. How you feel. Do you want to take this on again?’”Fleetwood Mac is currently on a temporary hiatus as McVie’s ex-husband, John, is being treated for cancer. In an interview with Rolling Stone last week, Nicks said John is “gonna be fine, adding, “He’s got his treatment, and now he did a show on the 30th and 31st, another tomorrow night, then he has surgery next week. . . I’m not the least bit worried about John. He’s very, very strong and a man of very few words. He’s not a person to mess with.”

I'm surprised you have 'Brown Eyes' so high above the likes of 'Over and Over', 'Little Lies', 'Songbird', 'Everywhere' etc. It's an amazing production (the drum sound alone is pure ear candy, and those harmonies) but as a song it's a mere wisp of a thing. Even so, I find it to be a highlight of Tusk.

With "Brown Eyes/Never Make Me Cry" song and arrangement are inseparable, as they often are in 90 percent of scenarios.

I feel like I said this somewhere else but man, “Prove Your Love” is a terrific song. The wordless refrain with the sawing violins is just magic. Anyone who thinks she needed Lindsey never heard this.
