Magnolia??

Bianca

Eric H., Wednesday, 26 February 2014 13:16 (ten years ago) link

Bianca's been in the game forever, though? And kind of in on the pisstake nature of the show?

eeeLuvium (Leee), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:19 (ten years ago) link

Since I don't have logo, did they just air the one episode or were there a couple? I only saw the first group episode

Now that I can more closely read this thread, I think I saw all there was to see episode wise. Phew!

"I bootleg avenue that one. I poop on it."

God, I live for Raja.

Eric H., Friday, 28 February 2014 16:10 (ten years ago) link

Hahah I had missed that, catching up with it now.

EPISODE 2...well THAT was an easy decision about who to send home. Besides which (redacted) killed her performance from the get-go whereas the loser clearly didn't know all the words, so.

Trinity is something of an initial favorite for me now because that main stage look ruled, and she had some sharp comments here and there. Be interesting to see how she mixes it up with the Gia/Laganja wing next week.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 06:44 (ten years ago) link

Not all the way through the episode just yet, but now that I've seen them all out of drag, I can commence in my shallow game of selecting my boy-queen crushes. This year's honors go to Milk, Ben and Trinity.

Eric H., Tuesday, 4 March 2014 17:40 (ten years ago) link

I would call that a good trifecta.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 18:51 (ten years ago) link

well THAT was an easy decision about who to send home

You sure weren't whistling dixie there.

Eric H., Tuesday, 4 March 2014 18:55 (ten years ago) link

Glad to see I was way off the mark on Bianca, too.

Eric H., Tuesday, 4 March 2014 19:41 (ten years ago) link

The Untucked episode revealed a pronounced level of self-loathing in Magnolia, though. I kinda feel for her.

Eric H., Tuesday, 4 March 2014 19:47 (ten years ago) link

Yeah Bianca's fun, quick and sometimes sharp but not mean. Magnolia, yeah...yeah. Hard to ascribe all that to just being a bad day or wanting the exposure. Her Watcha Packin' with Michelle will be interesting (it might be up by now).

Oh and speaking of feedback and review -- Coco and Isis have kicked in! Reviewing last week:

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 23:37 (ten years ago) link

Ughhhhhhh god Magnolia...wow...she was just gross, inside & out. The nose, the voice, that fucking hairline, every word out of her mouth...christ.
To quote Bianca: "She's stupid."
And Trinity: "Security! Get this bitch outta here."

This group is way better calibre! Loving Trinity, LOVE Bianca maybe the most, Milk's steez is super interesting I really love her, Courtney I love but she could easily be outshined here.

Bianca though. Already feel like she has her shit together.

Jocelyn needs some kind of penalty, yellowcard situation for "Ru-zy Q". And that toy doll giggle. yuuuuk.
her rainbow saddlebags were hilarious though

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 05:06 (ten years ago) link

Maybe Magnolia saw she was totally outclassed and that's where the anger came from, but too many of her "faux" faux-narcissistic comments in the Untucked episode rang too true to be just situational.

Bianca was pretty wise dealing with her -- the whole "If you're going to be a cold, hard bitch offstage, know that it'll take a toll."

Eric H., Wednesday, 5 March 2014 05:19 (ten years ago) link

I definitely think she was doubling down on her loser status

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 05:21 (ten years ago) link

You definitely should see her Whatcha Packin with Michelle V. She's a *little* more sympathetic but at one point when Michelle asks to see some of her other outfits she refuses saying about how she wants to keep it a surprise or something. I'm all "Hey I thought you wanted the exposure here." You can tell Michelle's a little surprised if not put out by that.

Loving next week's horror themed episode already. That should be a blast.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 05:29 (ten years ago) link

Joslyn -- I dunno, the ditz act ("act") was endearing to me!
Trinity was a total surprise -- thought we were going to get another Gia -- but I guess I shouldn't have been because she knows how to present herself, and she was totally grounded in her talking heads.
Courtney -- I think she'll get her chance to spread her wings a little more once the competition gets going.
Milk -- going to be curious how her genderf*ck is going to play out, if she'll keep with it or if she'll tone it down (I assume the latter).
Bianca -- ♥. I guess I have a thing for clowns????

Going to have to rewatch "Untucked" as I was busy playing video games with it on.

Lee with three E's (Leee), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 05:32 (ten years ago) link

Oddly enough I've grown to like Gia a bit on rewatching just because she's SOOOOO loving herself but kinda just swishes through it all. Definitely not going to last in a battle of wits -- Trinity will take her out one way or another, I'd guess -- but even so. Laganja in contrast is like 'whoa, um, stop that.'

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 05:46 (ten years ago) link

Laganga feels like she's only a few steps up from being Magnolia

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 05:49 (ten years ago) link

Let's not go that far! Lasagna's biggest sin is that for now, her persona (aside from the weed) is that she's a hollow collection of catchphrases, but without Magnolia's self-loathing defeatism. In that way, she's like a weird inversion of Alyssa (who is Lasagna's drag mom). #captainsaveanestranja

"Do you think maybe it was in black and white because it was the '60s?"

" ... ... ... ... Noooo."

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:28 (ten years ago) link

God I love those pauses. Anyway, last night! That was a farrago. (And I didn't want Vivacious to leave that early but geesh, if that was the BEST take (and it was as Untucked showed.))

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:32 (ten years ago) link

Anyway I wanted more of Courtney/Bianca in their movie bit. But Gia/Adore (with a couple more takes) would have been note-perfect airheads (too perfect) and Joslyn's 'gasp!' delivery was way funnier than it should have been. No question Darienne ran away with it though.

The minichallenge was some underrated craziness. Who was Darienne paired with again, they should have won that.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:38 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, the entire episode basically confirmed my initial take -- that the second group far outpaced the first group, with only Ben shining through the general lack of seasoning. (Vivacious being the other technical exception, RIP.)

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:39 (ten years ago) link

I agree. Darienne's legs with whichever twig was sitting on top of her = GENIUS!

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:40 (ten years ago) link

(I think it was maybe Joslyn.)

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:40 (ten years ago) link

Also,

"Age does have something to do with it."
"You were nominated for an Academy Award at age 12!"
"Yes, but I'd been working since I was 6."

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:43 (ten years ago) link

Linda and Lena ruled. They should come back anytime.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:54 (ten years ago) link

Seriously wondering why there hasn't been a series of webisodes devoted to the guest judges clowning backstage.

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:57 (ten years ago) link

It's the little touches that make this show an endless joy. The pitch shift on "How in the HELL you gonna love somebody else" was sick.

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:00 (ten years ago) link

Haha yeah I was wondering how Ru really sounded saying that. Assuming the startled response was really in response!

An interesting and slightly frustrating part of the show for me is whenever they juuuust touch a little deeper into questions of stereotyping on several fronts but can't go too far without derailing the episode format (so that always makes me wonder what else was left out via editing). Last night had two instances at least -- Bianca telling Trinity how to act and Trinity going "Oh, so you mean like a black girl" and then critiques on how April was supposed to play 'butch.' It's always played for laughs and/or SHADE but it's obviously not just that.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:04 (ten years ago) link

yeah the second group is way, way better

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:12 (ten years ago) link

bianca's easily the best IMO

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:14 (ten years ago) link

xps I can only hope the show presumes some level of built-in sensitivity to these issues. Another one: Vivacious being treated as a piece of history and, consequently, a relic.

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:18 (ten years ago) link

Ok it's confirmed: I'm team bianca

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:19 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, Bianca is in the clear. I worry that both Ben and Milk are going to eat her dust. The latter, in particular, hasn't made anywhere near the mission statement I feel she intended to make.

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:36 (ten years ago) link

I think now that the two groups are mixed up a bit it'll take a little longer for people to reemerge. And sometimes it takes a while anyway -- nobody was thinking Jinkx was anywhere near the front last year until Snatch Game kicked in.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:42 (ten years ago) link

Truth.

Eric H., Tuesday, 11 March 2014 15:59 (ten years ago) link

yeah I was thinking about that too. I mean look at Tyra.

I'm interested to see how far Milk goes. I still have my eye on Courtney but I don't know if she's as all-that as I want her to be. We'll see.

I hope Gia hangs around if only for the hilariously dumb things that come out of her mouth.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 11 March 2014 17:19 (ten years ago) link

Darienne's legs with whichever twig was sitting on top of her = GENIUS!

I think it was Ben, actually!

Joslyn's 'gasp!' delivery was way funnier than it should have been.

Totally think she's playing the ditz to a tee so far, and hell HELL, it's working.

Gibbering Hard Gibberish Soft (Leee), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 04:19 (ten years ago) link

I hope Gia hangs around if only for the hilariously dumb things that come out of her mouth.

lol I still kinda hate her but can't lie she is unintentionally hilarious.

When Bianca asked Adore what her name was, I thought it'd have been hilarious if Adore replied, "Willam."

Gibbering Hard Gibberish Soft (Leee), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 04:26 (ten years ago) link

Racial approaches have been very ~iffy~ on this show for a while (S3 was difficult for me to watch in large part because of this), and I was thoroughly uncomfortable during the first Bianca/Trinity exchange where B said T should act ghetto.

Gibbering Hard Gibberish Soft (Leee), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 17:59 (ten years ago) link

Mm. It's definitely of note whenever it overtly surfaces, and you have to wonder what isn't said/shown.

On a lighter note, I think we're all underappreciating Gia's moment where she doesn't know how to pronounce DeLorean or what it is. (But then again, she was born in 1988 or 1989, why WOULD she know?)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 March 2014 18:13 (ten years ago) link

there were some doozies aside from that

like the whole black and white vs color thing! lool.
and what was the word she said in untucked, gaahh I can't remember but it was hilarious
