Maybe because of all the bugs from the past week, but a bunch of my standard tokens got converted to Heroic tokens today (like, 18). Not as good as the Assault Team special tokens I should've gotten, but still, better than nothing.

CStorm/MagNow/Spidey is a FANTASTIC team

yer right, it's a GREAT team, i'm pumping more iso into Mags Now
― Nhex, Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:07 (ten years ago) link
who tanks in that team?
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:17 (ten years ago) link
storm, i would guess
― PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:20 (ten years ago) link
Spidey, essentially. You go for as much blue and yellow as you can, throwing out enough Spidey stuns to slow their dmg output to where it's manageable for the team and so that when their first character drops, you can heal back up to full. If you can take down that first opposing member without losing anyone, the match is effectively over and you win because you can then use Spidey to stun-lock the other two opposing characters and heal incidental damage while generating tons of blue with MagNow's purple, using CStorm's green to periodically reset the board (and gather extra tiles).
also with that combo there's no interference or backlash with MagNow's red, which is a rigorous backhand to whomever you are trying to burn down that can trigger fantastic cascades for you
all that's missing is a character for black; if Punisher's Molotov Cocktail targeted black instead of red I'd consider swapping out CStorm for him because if you can get three up that put an attack tile on the board every turn, your damage output gets silly (although it feels much more effective if you have Pun grouped with a strike tile character, esp. Daken or AstWolvie because it seems that every tick gets that bonus dmg and you can get to the point where a turn with a single match knocks off well over 1K)
― sent as gassed to onto rt dominance (DJP), Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:22 (ten years ago) link
(CStorm does end up taking the most dmg initially but I suspect some of that is due to my character levels: 61 CStorm/51 Spidey/32 MagNow)

(89)IM40-(85)OBW-(71)MagNow = i spend more than half of every match w/ 30 blue AP
― I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:38 (ten years ago) link
yeah that sounds nice
I have rediscovered 2 star wolvie during the last couple of days: his strike tiles + OBW espionage makes for a nasty & quick beating.
maxed my OBW at 77 this morning; need need need a purple cover for her & feel the desperation to spend 500 hp to get it. 500 hp that I don't have...but could...ugggggggh
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:41 (ten years ago) link
both of those
guess I oughta work on my MagNow!
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:42 (ten years ago) link
IM40/OBW/MagNow sounds like a great combo as long as you can absorb the damage output (which I guess you can given OBW's heal; as long as she's alive, your team is alive) but I am getting way into the damage mitigation-style you can play with Spidey (similar to how I didn't find my niche in WoW until I discovered the discipline priest healing build, which spent more time preventing damage from happening than it did replenishing health)
― sent as gassed to onto rt dominance (DJP), Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:55 (ten years ago) link
btw Captain + OBW + Spidey would also be good for damage mitigation: use Spidey to get purple to build up shields, feeding OBW purple, which you use to get yellow to get Cap's shields. at l85 & 5 yellow covers, you get four shields *each* covering 150 damage.
I've been running this with cstorm instead of Spidey but I oughta level spidey up and try to run this
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:16 (ten years ago) link
hmm yeah, I guess if Cap is suppressing dmg, you don't actually need Spidey's heals; also Cap's shields would last longer that Spidey's stuns
you do miss out on the ability to control the entire board, though, which is the other thing I love about rolling stuns on the opposing team
― sent as gassed to onto rt dominance (DJP), Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:21 (ten years ago) link
I rarely play with a hp tank. Just haven't felt the need to.
― Jeff, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link
you could roll stuns with spidey's blue though; like you're not even relying on cap's blue shield in that strat
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link
ran cap + thor + OBW last night in the russia battle with three l+120 mutants; OBW got taken out early by a merciless crush, then took out one of the baddies but next lost thor to another merciless crush, so just had cap against two; but I'd acquired enough red to take out one of the two baddies, and had enough blue to take out the next merciless crush, then cycled enough blue and red to wipe out the last baddie. it was slow but exhilarating
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:31 (ten years ago) link
aren't you using blue with OBW to patch up from dmg if you are facing non-NPCs? I agree that if you are facing countdown goons with no names that having a direct heal is much less important
― sent as gassed to onto rt dominance (DJP), Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:35 (ten years ago) link
W/this strat I usually end up "tanking" with Storm, as it's a mad rush to collect blue and purple at the beginning to fire off Wind Storm. Spidey's web is usually saved for the end to kill the last guy (usually Daken) and heal
― Nhex, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:40 (ten years ago) link
xp I guess you heal once or so with OBW but then you'll have control and you're set damage wise
nb I have not tried this strat
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:50 (ten years ago) link
fuck i really really want spidey's blue cards like maybe enough to shell out twenty bucks for it. all kinds of easy justifications.

Expand Alliances – Players will be able to spend Hero Points to expand their Alliance, adding more friends to their existing Alliance.
shouda guessed this
― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:12 (ten years ago) link
wtf. And then what does that get you anyway? More rosters to look at?
― Jeff, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:16 (ten years ago) link
more friends to join your group. more bullshit really. but if anybody wants to join ILXFactor apparently we will soon have a cover charge

Alliance Leaderboards - Players will be able to see the rankings of the different Alliances within tournaments. Certain events will have Alliances-based leaderboards where your rank and rewards are based on the performance of your team in the event.
Private Alliances – Allowing players to create an exclusive Alliance that can only be joined with the Commander’s approval.
Chat – The ability to chat with other players in your Alliance to share tactics and discuss strategy.

― Euler, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:31 (ten years ago) link
you would hope, right?from the forums:
We've had a ton of questions about our plans for Alliances now that it's out in basic form as a feature, so I went ahead and put together a few things that we'll be rolling out for this feature. Note that there are no timelines for these, so they may be R49, R50, etc. but these are some of our near-term plans for Alliances. As a feature it'll likely be growing beyond this, so this is not the be all end all of the system.

uh i dunno if anyone else noticed this about magnow btw, but like... his red attack generates AP
5x5 blast costs 14 red and gets you AP for the 25 tiles in the blast :O
magnow is fucking rad
― I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:04 (ten years ago) link
o rly? I thought his red explicitly DIDN'T generate XP (must be confusing that attack with blue?)
― Wahaca Flocka Flame (DJP), Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:12 (ten years ago) link
blue explicitly does not
red doesn't say in the description... and then i checked... and it totally did. god its so good

ha well guess who is going to be using red EVEN more now
no wonder MagNow/CStorm/Spidey is so awesome
― Wahaca Flocka Flame (DJP), Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:43 (ten years ago) link
yup, those board clear + generate AP moves are fairly rare
― Nhex, Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:01 (ten years ago) link
the hulk/raggie ones are just lame
― have a nice blood (mh), Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:09 (ten years ago) link
i don't count those - i mean the ones that that destroy board tiles and give you the AP for them, like Marvel Now Magneto's red bomb, both Storm's Green Lightning Storm power. Most tile destroy powers don't give you AP, the Hulk/Thor/Rag powers give you an AP bonus for using them, but don't get the AP for smashing the board (hence the "Does not generate AP" sentence at the end of each of these).
― Nhex, Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:14 (ten years ago) link
hence them being laaaame
― have a nice blood (mh), Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:15 (ten years ago) link
Up thread I said Magnow's red was second rate. I take it back. It's pretty good at level 5. His blue is still terrible.

omg last night I played this for the first time in a week -- all my Moonstone covers had expired :( -- and kind of haphazardly did the available events, but the sudden lack of queued covers prompted me to cash in my 3 Heroic tokens, which yielded 2 MagNows (both red) and a Spidey Classic! ^_^
