The very first time I saw your face I thought of a song and quickly changed the tune: The Cure - Faith poll

for me the pinnacle is The Drowning Man....(I'd have All Cats Are Grey a very close second...)

xo Do you mean Marc Almond hearing it on his first E? That's the story I've heard. I can imagine it sounds pretty special on E.

What is wrong with songs? Absolutely nothing. Songs are great. (DL), Friday, 7 March 2014 00:01 (ten years ago) link

have no idea why the Bloodflowers poll didn't come out right in that original post. speaking of i was in a Vons and "Maybe Someday" of all songs came on, such a strange song to hear in a grocery store.

Yes, the Marc Almond story. Thanks for the reminder and correction.

All Cats Are Grey by a mile. It could be my favourite Cure song.

Kitchen Person, Friday, 7 March 2014 04:47 (ten years ago) link

I think I voted primary over it in the artist poll but whenever I put this on the funeral party is my favorite in sequence so the funeral party it is

Failing the option to vote for Carnage Visors, I went for The Drowning Man.

my stories are boring and stuff (Branwell Bell), Friday, 7 March 2014 09:09 (ten years ago) link

so i did play this today and Simon's bass playing is superb, the remastered version really brought it out for me this time around. i also think i might have underestimated Faith. i have always rated Seventeen Seconds over it but right now i'm not so sure.

listen to seventeen seconds again and you will be

OutdoorFish, Saturday, 8 March 2014 06:46 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, Seventeen Seconds has always struck me as a handful of amazing songs with a lot of filler. While Faith is pretty much a perfect album.

All Cats Are Grey without hesitation, and this is one of my favourite Cure albums, too. I have to perform strange mental snapping actions to listen to the Cure without disturbing the fetid pools of embarrassing teenage memory, but it's worth it.

Is there much love for 'Doubt'? I've always felt it was a little out of step with the rest of the record and more like a throwback to Easy Cure.

MaresNest, Saturday, 8 March 2014 11:49 (ten years ago) link

I love Doubt in context, it's such a bratty little song. It might be a little out of step, but I do think that it works in context, the final burst of anger before the resignation of The Drowning Man.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I have to go with "All Cats Are Grey", I think it was my number one in the artist poll. It's such a perfect song, the drums, the bass, the keyboards, the vocals, the distant piano notes at the end. It's gloomy yet aerial at the same time, like an out of body experience.

It just kills me that I can't also vote for "The Drowning Man", which has always been another huge favorite of mine

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Wow, I expected All Cats Are Grey and The Drowning Man to tie. Glad I voted for The Drowning Man (heh, nearly typed the droning man) then.

I went to one of those reflections shows in Sydney - the best of the 3 albums live was 17 secs I think - something about seeing the band as an era-appropriate stripped-back 4-piece was really special - but Faith was great too - and the encore with all the singles and b-sides was the best ever

anyway Faith is great

Got into them at 15 via HOTD and Beach then went for the back catalogue, this record hit me like a thunderbolt. I was changed forever.
