Oh and did we all see that next week is...

SNATCH GAME

Bianca as Judge Judy, Milk (I think) as Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey, Adore as Anna Nicole, this'll be crazy.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 18:39 (ten years ago) link

it's gonna be awesome!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 18:45 (ten years ago) link

I think Trinity has a bit of that Jiggly Caliente thing of beating herself before she's even started. Like she's so focused on the 'can't' that she can't see anything else and won't accept any help or support from anyone to get where she could easily be

And the girl needs to speak up for herself - Rupaul knew that the flippers might have been a problem for her, it probably would have helped her a little in the judges eyes if she had said it too

Girl is gorgeous, she just needs a truckload more confidence in herself.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 18:47 (ten years ago) link

I want Courtenay's beefcake sweatshirt real bad.

Eric H., Tuesday, 18 March 2014 18:48 (ten years ago) link

And yeah, this season seems crazy front-loaded with acting/talent challenges over runway.

Eric H., Tuesday, 18 March 2014 19:03 (ten years ago) link

I'm a touch surprised Snatch Game is a little earlier than it normally is.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:00 (ten years ago) link

Yeah. A bigger panel hopefully equals a longer time spent on the actual game.

Eric H., Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:11 (ten years ago) link

Also, I too would find it very difficult to, er, perform with Lucian flashing grins at me from offstage.

Eric H., Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:24 (ten years ago) link

I haven't watched the Untucked episode yet, where maybe her preggo runway look gets some actual screentime/explanation, but I'm just starting to feel bad for Milk now that nothing she can do seems to be currying favor with the show editors.

Eric H., Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:29 (ten years ago) link

omg yeah lucian is cuuuuuuuuuute i love him

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:32 (ten years ago) link

April. :( Things have gotten less fishy. :( :( Definitely think that she would've gone farther in previous seasons, when the show put more emphasis on fashion.

Agree w/ Veggggg that Laganja's spotlight grabbing was nagl (what was agl was that runway look, good god). Also agree with Nedrick about Trinity. I mean, for all of her insecurity, she's done well! Like, her acting in the previous episode turned out fine, and so was her singing this episode! Maybe that's just her process: freak out, lash out, turn out.

I do wonder how much of Gia's schtick is a put-on simply to get screentime, esp. considering her defensiveness about getting called ignert. (But then, actually being dumb could also explain said defensiveness.)

loled at Bianca: "OOoh this is getting good, and this time I didn't start it."

it's gonna be awesome!

Doesn't everybody say that every year? And then we get Detox peeing or romper room tawdriness.

ignert looool

yeah Gia's kabuki was really interesting, kinda warmed up to her a little bit

those two are like a weird drag arsenic & old lace

Great snatch game. Adore was killing me with her Anna Nicole, wee bit bummed that she didn't win. Ben was great as Maggie though. Kinda wonder how much longer the old-lady schtick will hold up

what's to become of milk? is she gonna re-re-invent herself, or stick to her guns? tough road ahead imo

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 05:44 (ten years ago) link

Yeah that was a crazy evening. And Trinity dropped a bit of a bombshell there too. Liked her mom, she seemed cool!

Oh Laganja is driving me a little nuts now. Still she deserved to win the lip sync there, but I'm kinda sad to lose Gia's goofy ass ways, I dunno. At least she can't enable Laganja any more!

Top three WERE the top three, Adore is kinda the scrapper here time after time when you think about it. And I think Bianca's a little miffed at losing to Ben there but damn Ben pulled it out, and that was a great dress, so.

I KNEW someone would come out in a suit but I blanked and didn't realize it was obviously going to be Milk. Of course. (Santino's point about trying out full on glamour is well taken.) I like how you could tell Gia was really pissed about Milk skating through, even the usual 'if you didn't like that I sashayed away go bitch about it' promo moment seemed pretty sharp.

Kinda like people predicted -- that first of the two premiere teams is decimated now. The last three losses were all from that team.

And next week is a hip hop crew throwdown? Oh this could be really good or reallllly bad.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 05:45 (ten years ago) link

be afraid, lol

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 05:49 (ten years ago) link

Both at the same time, I think, Ned!

We should talk about Johnson Joslyn Fox. Black horse, indeed.

Leeee with three E's with 3 spelled out (Leee), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 05:49 (ten years ago) link

ehhh joslyn's still kinda weak sauce to me. she was funny tho, give her that

i hope laganja flames out next week, she's too immature & needy for this level. she seems v messed up within herself & it's just spewing out constantly now that she can't hold back

though i hope her & bianca get one more good read session

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 05:53 (ten years ago) link

Joslyn is very likeable. She's funny, intelligent, and sweet. She's got Miss Congeniality in the bag.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:22 (ten years ago) link

Hmm, you think? I mean I can see that but she's still a little too anonymous to me, even in comparison with Ivy, who was a little understated but still had something more to offer. And DEFINITELY in comparison to Yara and Latrice! If anything I'd say Courtney right now.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:26 (ten years ago) link

I agree we still have to see more of her, but for me she's passed Ivyyyyyy already.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:30 (ten years ago) link

If not I would go with Ben rather than Courtney.
Speaking of understated, what's going on with Milk ? She seems to be fading in the background. Or is that the editing ? During Untucked we didn't even get a word from her about her male RuPaul.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:36 (ten years ago) link

I'd guess the editing. If anything they CLEARLY had to be taking out all the bits in the workroom first when everyone else realized what she was doing.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:44 (ten years ago) link

If Trin deserves hugs, then so does Laganja, because... well, I forget why, but what you said at some point in time, vaguely in the direction of Laganja, or at least within her hearing distance, was very hurtful. Seriously though -- this season has a real deep gap between the veteran heh heh high fliers and the talented but deeply insecure, heh heh high-maintenance drag rookies.

I also want to defend Laganja to an extent: I'm wagering that a large amount of what she's learned about drag has come from the show, which has inculcated these narcissistic and melodramatic values and beliefs in her.

Kinda wonder how much longer the old-lady schtick will hold up

Wasn't this just the second time Ben went old lady? And the first time, it was one of the (limited number of) roles? Smells like the judges are fishing for a way to ding her.

I agree we still have to see more of her, but for me she's passed Ivyyyyyy already.

OTM! The most memorable thing about Ivy was the way Ru said her name.

As for Milk, I kinda hope she goes the Tammie way, going out with weirdness a-blazing.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 17:14 (ten years ago) link

You're right about LaGanga, I hadn't thought about that. She's the classic cliched drama queen reality show contestant who comes in all 'I'M NOT HERE TO MAKE FRIENDS' thinking that that how you're supposed to be and then within a week they're all 'no-one likes me i don't understand sob sob sob' ;_;

I think if LaGanga wasn't so thin skinned and reactionary Bianca could totally help her on the straight and narrow, she's been dishing out some pretty good advice in amongst the barbs.

We'll see. Maybe she'll pull a Tyra and do a 180

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 17:18 (ten years ago) link

how great was Bianca's line, 'bitch if I'm gonna come for you I'll come into room at night and cut up your wigs'

I hope it's happening behind the scenes or that it's been edited out; I think that Trinity and Bianca are pals now, for instance.

tbh for me, Tyra did a 360.

Anyway, here's Adore doing her Gia impression:

lol

I never know if it's 180 or 360

becuase if you do a 360 you're back to where you started, whereas a 180 you're facing a different direction

Yes Ben killed it!

“I’m unfamiliar with the work of Lady Handler. However, I did think it would be rather amusing if there were a libation flavored with citrus! Can you imagine such a thing?”

I died.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 21:55 (ten years ago) link

Gia should show up once a week just to say something dumb to the camera, for old times' sake.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 21:59 (ten years ago) link

OTM! The most memorable thing about Ivy was the way Ru said her name.

Well...Ivy DID win one episode before she went, so let's see Joslyn step up for that first!

-Wasn't this just the second time Ben went old lady? And the first time, it was one of the (limited number of) roles? Smells like the judges are fishing for a way to ding her.

Yeah there hasn't been any sort of real pattern there for her. Older *styles* sure, but not full-on 'old lady' per se beyond this and the horror film, unless you want to count the opening Golden Girls thing. (Which she won for!)

“I’m unfamiliar with the work of Lady Handler. However, I did think it would be rather amusing if there were a libation flavored with citrus! Can you imagine such a thing?”

Gotta say that for not doing impersonations he pulled it off well. That and the 'invented the language' bit.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 22:01 (ten years ago) link

Gia's Whatcha Packin episode is kinda cool! A little less dumbed down, I think, and there are some great outfits:

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 23:49 (ten years ago) link

Just caught up with this week's. (Had been waiting for a night when my friend and I could watch it together and he went ahead and watched it without me. Bitch!)

It was a tight snatch (game), and I don't think they chose incorrectly. Adore and Bianca understood their characters more fully, obviously, but I think Ben showed better improvisational chops, which is first and foremost in an acting challenge.

The montage of exasperated looks from everyone to Laganga's "you hurt me with that remark; did I mention that I cried?" breakdown in the Untucked had me in stitches.

Eric H., Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:34 (ten years ago) link

Milk's apparently on borrowed time now, to judge from this editing.

Eric H., Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:36 (ten years ago) link

yeah it's not looking good

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:42 (ten years ago) link

And as much as I know the editing can lead everyone by the nose, it's clear a lot of those Julia Child punchlines fizzled. Didn't we get some bonus Snatch Game clips last season?

Eric H., Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:45 (ten years ago) link

Oh wait, never mind I found it.
