OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER

CAN I GET A AMEN

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 8 April 2014 06:01 (ten years ago) link

...okay?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 April 2014 06:03 (ten years ago) link

I can't tell you how richly satisfying it was to have Ru and Michelle both dress her down.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 April 2014 06:04 (ten years ago) link

Anyway, Untuckeds for tomorrow SLEEP NOW.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 April 2014 06:05 (ten years ago) link

Ok guys, here the scoop (I go to a big viewing party hosted every week by Dela and Jinkx). The heckler was Jinkx's veteran from last season who was in the audience. Edited out was Bianca TEARING INTO HIM during her act.

So glad Laganga is out, so happy Ben stays. I was gonna flip every table in the joint if she was sent home.

kate78, Tuesday, 8 April 2014 07:58 (ten years ago) link

You know, I *thought* I recognized that guy!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 April 2014 12:46 (ten years ago) link

i wonder how much of trinity's transformation was tricky editing from the jump and how much of it was her really... transforming. anyway that was fun to see.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 8 April 2014 14:02 (ten years ago) link

it was hilarious in untucked when bianca and adore really went in on her but were like "we don't want you to feel picked on!"

but she definitely needed to hear it. she seems to me like someone who completely modeled herself off the idea of a Drag Queen (i.e. super minstrelsy) w/o anyone telling her that her act was really horrible

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 8 April 2014 14:06 (ten years ago) link

I love how Bianca's turned into a sort of drag mom for Adore and Trinity. Like the two who I could have given a shit about in the first episode are now totally getting their shit together

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 8 April 2014 15:25 (ten years ago) link

I have a question. In the talking heads everybody is dressed the same since episode one. Does that mean that they were all filmed in one sitting after all the taping was done? I don't recall it being like that in past seasons...

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 01:39 (ten years ago) link

I dunno, I think they were always mostly the same with some exceptions but maybe they just did it all in one fell swoop this time.

Caught up with the Untuckeds. Laganja, youuuu...wore out your welcome.

So! Of the original two teams the first one is decimated. Just Adore and Ben, easily the best of that bunch.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 01:58 (ten years ago) link

I still am not feeling Ben, dunno why.

I felt a bit uncomfortable with the way Bianca came for LaGanja about her story with her parents. Like, ok you think she's fake but that felt like a bridge too far & unnecessary, since they were all coming for her over that shit anyway.

Regardless, still teamBianca. go you clown

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 02:05 (ten years ago) link

It's kind of interesting for me that unlike last year I do not have a ride-or-die favorite. There's a higher tier but nobody's making me go "Oh YOU need to win," rather it's more "Hmm...who WILL win?"

Also of note: Ben, Bianca and Adore have now all won two times each.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 02:07 (ten years ago) link

Liking Courtney less and less. She seems to just assume she's going to the final bcz she's Courtney. She is talented, but she's so distant, it's gard to root for her. Her remove is v Australian, granted, it's clear she doesnt go in for the emotional soulbaring & likes to keep it light... but more & more she's seeming kinda cold. Which bums me out.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 02:12 (ten years ago) link

Mm, yeah, her dynamic with Joslyn's rather...odd. And while Joslyn still hasn't turned into a sleeper for me here, it was rather nice (and sad!) to see that clip from her fiancé as well as learning about her nephew.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 02:20 (ten years ago) link

her style is wretched tho

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 02:43 (ten years ago) link

totally. she's like Miss Rio De Janeiro every week, I honestly can't stand her.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 02:52 (ten years ago) link

I felt the same way. Laganja deserved the rest but this was a bit too much. Bianca could've just pointed out that Joslyn was taking the jokes and having fun after her emotional moment with her fiancé's video.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 03:21 (ten years ago) link

omg Trinity <3

she's doin a Tyra and I love it

Was thinking this very same thing this week. Actually, the theme of the season is starting to materialize as "versions of previous season winners compete against each other," with Courtney Act (which many probably pegged as this year's presumptive frontrunner) even getting her own Eve Harrington, albeit a super nice one. Trinity is Tyra, Milk was Sharon, Ben is Jinxx. Stretching it a little, Bianca fills Raja's wise/hysterical drag veteran slot, tho no one feels much like BeBe.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 15:10 (ten years ago) link

No shade on Ben, but if both queens are going to shante stay, I want them to have just finished a cyclonic, glitter-teared, double-wigged lipsync battle. That was not what happened on that stage.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 15:13 (ten years ago) link

I laughed a cathartic LOL when Joslyn short-circuited Laganga's stage-pounding split without even looking. And then laughed even harder when Laganga hastily worked in another desperate split to I guess restore the imbalance?

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 15:15 (ten years ago) link

Whenever LaGanja does a deaddrop I think of that Willam line "she just swiffered the floor with her taint"

Bianca I think for the most part has done something that not a ton of other queens have really pulled off successfully...or maybe *believably* is the better word...the real-deal drag mother role. I mean, seeing how she forced herself to be patient and encouraging with Trinity despite wanting to strangle her was really something, and those sincere moments in between all the barbs in the workroom really is what has won me over with her. I'm still wondering if that will hurt Bianca in the long run though, if she's boosted up both of them to the point where they leave her for dust. I dunno. She feels like she could go all the way, but just as easily not.
Idk. Just thinking out loud

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 15:31 (ten years ago) link

Bianca should have top 3 on lockdown. From there on, as we've seen in the past, it seems entirely up to Ru's whims.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 15:43 (ten years ago) link

My hope is that Adore & Bianca are in the top 3, and I don't really care who else gets there.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 15:48 (ten years ago) link

Also I'll end my biancabiancabiancaOMGbianca blather now by saying I think Bianca is v attractive out of drag

Those lips!

Also I had been wondering about his background idly and there ya go, Honduran/Cuban. With appropriate explanation.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 16:18 (ten years ago) link

big dick no credit etc

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 16:30 (ten years ago) link

Meantime stepping back a bit I'm thinking about the rest of the episodes -- one more singing challenge, you figure, or not? (Given we've had the Rusical and the hip hop throwdown.) In that if Courtney and Adore are going to face off again or not or... Also there's going to be the makeover episode, presumably when there are five left.

Also, I've been wondering about the end of the season. Season 4 ending with the three facing off and then being caught off guard (as were the rest of us) by the final live audience decision was an actual surprise, but with Season 5 you kinda expected it and the episode was...a little less tense? It had moments but compared to the one before it, not so much. Kinda find it hard to believe Season 6 will necessarily play out the same way.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 16:47 (ten years ago) link

All time.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 17:05 (ten years ago) link

so awesome

yeah I'm not sure what the other challenges will be

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 17:13 (ten years ago) link

Love it !!!

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 17:15 (ten years ago) link

I have a question. In the talking heads everybody is dressed the same since episode one. Does that mean that they were all filmed in one sitting after all the taping was done? I don't recall it being like that in past seasons...

Someone asked Dela this at the show I go to and the producers asked them to wear the same outfit at each taping.

kate78, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 19:24 (ten years ago) link

Clarity!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 19:30 (ten years ago) link

you could tell in both episodes this week that ben and laganja had been crying (in the respective episodes) which is always a classic reality show tip off that the person is about to get eliminated. so i assumed it was something like that.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 19:33 (ten years ago) link

good riddance to bad lasagna, i say

patron sailor, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 20:00 (ten years ago) link

also i'm impressed by trinity's comeback storyline. i'm losing faith in ben's ability to make it to the finals, he's obviously struggling with the vulnerability problem that various queens come up against every season but I'm not sure his increasingly brittle drag persona can survive the sort of shake up necessary to win back ru's affections -- especially since trinity is well into her own redemption storyline.

patron sailor, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 20:13 (ten years ago) link

And Trinity's wit is underrated. She's had it from the get go, but it's quieter and emerges in unexpected contexts. Often she expresses it without saying a word!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 20:19 (ten years ago) link

Someone asked Dela this at the show I go to and the producers asked them to wear the same outfit at each taping.

Kinda shady (or clever) from the editors who can then use any reaction shot for whichever episode it fits best.
Like the one from Courtney after filming her commercial was so obvious. I doubt she said she did it in one take. Might have been from the singing or the rap challenge.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 20:20 (ten years ago) link

brittle

This is the perfect word to describe Ben's Achilles heel at this point in the competition.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 20:21 (ten years ago) link

yeah otm

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 20:27 (ten years ago) link

I'm at least hoping the next few episodes feature individual challenges, feels like there has been a real shortage of those so far.

patron sailor, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 20:58 (ten years ago) link

I thought the same thing.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 21:50 (ten years ago) link

Finally caught up.

Brittle describes a LOT of the queens this season. Trinity's come-around is a little too pat, especially from, I unno, a real self-actualization point of view or whatever. I've watched too much reality tv to buy it wholeheartedly, but at the very least, if this means we don't have another week of her naked esteem issues, I won't complain too hard.

Can't exactly complain about Laganja going home, even if I started out on her side in the beginning and was reluctant to give up on her, she was TRYING in every syntactical sense. And everyone who noted how she was in fact ganged up on OTM -- uncomfortable viewing, there.

Also I'll end my biancabiancabiancaOMGbianca blather now by saying I think Bianca is v attractive out of drag

TBH I think she's v attractive in drag. #idonothaveaclownfetish

I'm happy to hold down the Team Joslyn fort by myself!

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Friday, 11 April 2014 04:17 (ten years ago) link

I think what courtney said about bianca in that one untucked was true, basically that she's not *unattractive* but she's not exactly Attractive either

she's... pretty in her own way (i believe courtney said this as well)

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 11 April 2014 04:38 (ten years ago) link

In the stand-up challenge for S3, only Manila outright bombed, right?

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Friday, 11 April 2014 20:58 (ten years ago) link

Delta kinda fell off but yeah I think Manila totally ate it after the start.
