none of my irl friends are into this shit. hell, most of my online friends aren't into this shit either. it's a lonely life, watching steve jobs doing shit ad nauseum on youtube.

did something happen to braun that made them stop making cool design-y stuff?

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 17:27 (ten years ago) link

i don't know. good question tho

markers, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 17:29 (ten years ago) link

I have this! I can kind of see the remnants of a fetish object in it. Maybe the bauhaus trajectory is to become invisible.

I haven't used it for a few months but the feature on the jawbone band that'd wake you around the designated time when you're already in a lighter phase of sleep worked pretty well.

yeah the abandonments rate for wearables is vv high, like if youre a fitness freak i can see it but its just too easy to stop doing it, speaking as someone w a lonely running watch

lag∞n, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:41 (ten years ago) link

I could see wearing it to sleep pretty regularly. I think I was on vacation and just didn't get back in the habit when I got home. Great alarm clock.

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:51 (ten years ago) link

I am a sleep freak, though

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:51 (ten years ago) link

I've had a browser tab open to that damn dieter rams universal shelving all day, kind of pondering if it'd be awesome in my house

damn you, markers

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 20:29 (ten years ago) link

hahaha. isn't it a lot of money? as i said, $60 at ikea

markers, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 20:30 (ten years ago) link

my desk was less than $40

markers, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 20:30 (ten years ago) link

it looks good but will probably fall apart soon

markers, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 20:31 (ten years ago) link

i haven't dicked around with the vitsoe site much but i see a price tag of over $1000

markers, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 20:31 (ten years ago) link

even the smaller versions are mad expensive.

markers, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 20:32 (ten years ago) link

I had a bit of a furniture-buying thing a couple years back

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 20:35 (ten years ago) link

The Braun story is a bit complicated, but it was bought by Gilette and first flourished and then foundered under them. The non-shaver stuff today is made by others licensing the brand. Oh, the wiki is not bad, but could be clearer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braun_(company)

stet, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 23:46 (ten years ago) link

I'm gonna buy a Dieter Rams designed Braun watch in a few months

, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 02:41 (ten years ago) link

they actually asked him about this thing, and he said it was flattering

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 02:42 (ten years ago) link

not the watch

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 02:42 (ten years ago) link

I've had the Basis B1 on for an hour and I'm remembering why I don't wear watches.

I wear this watch in black and it starts conversations with architects and graphic designers everywhere I go.

that's a nice watch.

architects and graphics designers are a structurally-obsessed people

most of them understand the diff between utility and affectation, though, and classify most watches accordingly

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 13:35 (ten years ago) link

you couldn't really pull to refresh properly because the app clearly hadn't been optimized

lag∞n, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:41 (ten years ago) link

they're missing a few

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:42 (ten years ago) link

i really think the restriction of screen sizes was something that Apple got right - hate that they're going in the other direction now

Nhex, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:44 (ten years ago) link

they really have no choice, like its cool and tidy to have just an iphone and an ipad but real world usage demands at least couple more sizes, on the other hand all those samsung sizes is a big reason why no one wants to develop for android

lag∞n, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:48 (ten years ago) link

well, they're dropping the 4 and 4s eventually

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:49 (ten years ago) link

which leaves them with 5/5s and one or two others depending on what they launch this fall

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:49 (ten years ago) link

and two ipads

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

not the same thing

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

well, perhaps an "ipad pro" at some point too

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

and an iwatch

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

and an apple tv

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

and all the macs

markers, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

FWIW I see a lot more big 5-6"+ phones over here in East Asia than I do iPhones now

, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:52 (ten years ago) link

Yeah - it's gonna be legacy 4/4S, 5/5S, theoretically two new sizes for 6 (though one of them might just be 5 size), and the iPad sizes do matter since most apps are universal now and it bloats up the app size as well. (+possible App Store for iWatch)

I guess I should be thankful App Store is separate for Mac and AppleTV

Nhex, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:53 (ten years ago) link

I see how the bigger, nicer screens will draw the public but still, screw all those other app stores

Nhex, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 14:54 (ten years ago) link

How many resolutions are iOS developers gonna have to do now
