Dr. Scientist is a done deal. What an awesome dude.

Also about to get my first shot at the Skreddy Bloody Knuckles as soon as the shipment arrives. Stoked.

For the unfamiliar:

http://skreddypedals.com/skreddy_pedals_bloody_knuckle.htm

And maybe the coolest pedal website in the world:

Oh holy shit, the bloody knuckle is already discontinued. Well, guess I won't be dealing on the price on that one then.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 04:19 (ten years ago) link

that website kicks major ass.

Skreddy Lunar Module mini deluxe is mandatory around these parts.

Still pretty confused about pedal boards. They really do vary wildly. I'd build my own but pfff... What does everyone else use?

A piece of wood. They're currently secured with Velcro, but I've found I don't really like that. They tend to flop around and the Velcro itself gets really dirty. Someone (either on here or some other board) recommended securing the pedals to the board using bicycle chain links attached to y the screws on the bottom of the pedals. Been thinking about trying that approach.

With a non-powered board, how are you powering the pedals? My Diago thing only goes up to 6 pedals I think, and I'm planning to get a couple more. I've seen things like the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power +2 but these strike me as expensive and probably for people who are a bit more pro than I am. But I don't want loads of hiss etc...

I just use a OneSpot, but mine is strictly for at-home use.

ah right... i'll be playing local shows and taking it to practice rooms etc.

Nothing wrong with a one spot or similar really. Power bricks often have other voltage options (18v, voltage sag, etc) and sometimes better isolation (although not always, T. Rex has a couple non ISO bricks which is, well, scammy and stupid).

Same here tbh. Most versatile/addictive fuzz face i've ever played.

Plus Marc from skreddy is literally one of the nicest dudes in the business, so giving him money feels good.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 15:06 (ten years ago) link

What I want to pull the trigger on is some really nice versatile fuzz with a lotta dials but I know I have to put it off until at least mid-summer (for various reasons). Like, even just BUYING IT NOW!/PAYING FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! on the credit card won't work because I know I have some upcoming household purchases I'm going to have to make. : (

Heh, I didn't even last a week either. Found a solidgoldfx Formula 76 (a four-knob Super Fuzz-ish box) for super cheap and lost the will to resist. Anyone have opinions on solidgoldfx?

I'm building my own from instrumental panel facing I found at an aerospace junkyard.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 21:06 (ten years ago) link

I'm also thinking about getting a delay pedal (assuming delay is generally more useful than reverb). Is the Boss DD series a good start or are there better options out there? Analogue?

1 pONO 3v3Ry+h1n G!!!1 (dog latin), Thursday, 24 April 2014 13:17 (ten years ago) link

everyone has their favorite delay and there are a zillion different flavors but imo the Boss stuff is classic for a reason and a great place to start. personally, i find i prefer analog or analog-voiced delays because they usually have fewer parameters to control and they're easier for my little brain to grasp, but not because they're better,

resulting post (rogermexico.), Thursday, 24 April 2014 15:10 (ten years ago) link

My advice with delay pedals (I mean really all pedals) is seriously, go to a store and listen to as many as possible, trust your ears, ignore everyone else. Well, except me.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Thursday, 24 April 2014 15:14 (ten years ago) link

I know that sounds tongue and cheek but seriously, pedals are just like guitars, there is no one size fits all solution anymore - this is why, despite all rational business sense, I have no online store, despite the fact that I expect we will have close to 1000 pedals in stock by the end of this year (and despite the fact that I do a lot of national and international business). I try to at least be an intermediary either via email or the phone, because I can direct people to accurate demos, find out what they are trying to get a pedal to actually do, get reference points for tones they are looking for etc.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Thursday, 24 April 2014 15:22 (ten years ago) link

why they shut down the guitar shop near me is beyond me. there isn't a decent music shop for miles now.

1 pONO 3v3Ry+h1n G!!!1 (dog latin), Thursday, 24 April 2014 15:25 (ten years ago) link

but no that makes sense jjjusten. guess it's a trip up to denmark street for me.

I love the Idiot Box Dimension X delay and it's super versatile (including doing some things I've never got another pedal to do), but availability of them (especially in Britain) is a nightmare unless you buy direct from Matt.

Berk errs Gibbs/Ox (aldo), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:41 (ten years ago) link

Just FYI Aldo, you know I'm one of idiotboxes 5 dealers or whatever right?

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:45 (ten years ago) link

I kind of remembered you saying you had a D4 distortion (which is another great pedal which works in a different way from most others of the same effect type) but hadn't put two and two together to have you as a dealer.

Love Matt's stuff, never had a bad thing from him.

Berk errs Gibbs/Ox (aldo), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:48 (ten years ago) link

The Frequency Mangler might be my favourite effect of his.

Berk errs Gibbs/Ox (aldo), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:49 (ten years ago) link

I love the dimension x, but it's definitely an odd beast, very lofi and hard to tame. Matt is out of it at the moment iirc.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:50 (ten years ago) link

I think he has one uk dealer, joes pedals or something like that? And yeah, the frequency mangler is awesome.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:51 (ten years ago) link

I had noticed nearly everything is out of stock, that explains it.

Have you tried the Voivod pedal? If so, what's it like?

Berk errs Gibbs/Ox (aldo), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:52 (ten years ago) link

It's pretty heavy, less fuzzy than the dungeon master but despite being a purported bass pedal I've mostly sold it to guitar dudes, esp baritone guys. The acid etch also looks awesome. I try to keep all his stuff in stock, but he only does batches of 10 at a time, so it can get tricky. I have a standing "I will buy anything new you make and I don't care what it is" understanding with him, so I've heard everything he's made so far, and it's all pretty amazing.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:56 (ten years ago) link

Awesome. I might just have to buy it.

Berk errs Gibbs/Ox (aldo), Thursday, 24 April 2014 18:18 (ten years ago) link

FYI: Tell Me All You Know About Delay Pedals

Still love the Moog delay. If I was buying new right now, I'd probably get the Moog Mini delay.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 24 April 2014 20:27 (ten years ago) link

Uh oh might have just added another pedal line (sorta). Looks like dwarfcraft is a done deal.

Also a guy brought a bunch of these into the shop:

http://www.oldschoolfx.com

Not crazy about the graphics (yeah I know I shouldn't care but...yeah) but they seemed super well built and sounded pretty solid as well. Pricing is beyond fair. Do I buy a thing?

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Monday, 28 April 2014 05:45 (ten years ago) link

and by buy a thing i mean add them as a dealer, not buy this dudes collection, because he isnt selling, he just wanted to make me aware of the stuff. which i always find very cool when it happens, pedal geeks unite etc.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Monday, 28 April 2014 15:20 (ten years ago) link

deindexed this for totally self-serving reasons. nothing bad! just caution abt tipping my hand on pedal line stuff since this thread has crept up the googlerank on a few things a little bit further than i would like

I got a bit of a bonus at work and have treated myself to a WMD Geiger Counter for my noise setup. Everything points to it being exactly what I want/need but a couple of reviews of people that couldn't master it gives me the fear slightly.

Berk errs Gibbs/Ox (aldo), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 23:10 (ten years ago) link

Oh hey guess who just added one, possibly 2 new pedal lines today.

ohhhh lorde 2pac big please mansplain to this sucker (jjjusten), Thursday, 1 May 2014 02:39 (ten years ago) link

I'll share the first one although there is still some paperwork hoop shit to jump through - we're about to become a Hammond organ dealer, with no expectation of selling b3s, but because they sent me one of the Leslie pedals and it. Is. The. Shit.

ohhhh lorde 2pac big please mansplain to this sucker (jjjusten), Thursday, 1 May 2014 02:41 (ten years ago) link

Oh also added greenhouse effects. And now that I have deindexed this thread and won't look like a backtracking shitheel, feel free to ask me why I might be about to add zvex.

Hint: can't stop obsessing with the fuzz probe a dude brought into the shop.

I went to Denmark St and went for the Subdecay Anamnesis modular delay, which I'm very pleased with so far.

Uhoh shittons of pedals this week. And I haven't built my new pedal display yet, so I actually have nowhere to put them. Which means I've crossed the 600-700 count. By a long ways. Putting that a different way - I just did a quick calculation with our inventory program, and if the monopoly dude walked in and bought all our pedals at market value, it would cost $150k.

Might be time to actually start an online store I think.

Kinda drunk, kinda freaked out atm. In a good way! I think.

ohhhh lorde 2pac big please mansplain to this sucker (jjjusten), Monday, 12 May 2014 04:01 (nine years ago) link

Oh ha shit I didn't include used pedals in that calculation.

I'm just going to lie down for a bit and breathe into a paper bag brb
