i'd be all for it if more retweets/favorites meant that something was actually better. but most of the time the popularity of a tweet has nothing to do with the quality of it. some celebrity can say "hot dogs" and it'll get a billion retweets, and on a smaller scale, someone with 5,000 followers can post the exact same link and garner way more interest than someone with 50 followers. the system is already tilted to reward people who are already well known, and making popular people's posts larger just tips the scale in that direction even more. it would be like if big corporations somehow had to pay less in taxes than smaller businesses and people...oh wait

find the least popular kids and make them wear muffling masks

what is needed is a lone employee at twitter who looks at every tweet and then gives it a quality rating from 1-10

in a strange twist, twitter chooses ken jennings for the job and he only gives 10s to really boring things

no but the tweets r only bigger when ur looking at someones profile so its all their tweets not comparing them to celebrities or w/e

imho facebooks design was one of the main things that made it successful, it was way ahead of its time, it started to get muddled as it tried to do everything in the world and serve ads etc, but it used to be pretty great from a ui/ux perspective

the twitter week in review thing is pretty cool

omg i just turned the new profile on and then said i didn't want it and there is STILL that huge ad saying try the new profile design on top of my TL, why?

they're going to force you to get it eventually, so you may as well just learn to like it now

such is the way of things now.

Also, I didn't even know about this story until today, but totally agree that Twitter is useless for "controlling the conversation"
