Yeah Adore was killer. I'd been waiting to see that final look all season thanks to the Untucked intro bit!

And LOOOOVE the message Bianca got in the lounge. That was really sweet.

I demand we get the full mirror message somehow.

"Dear top 4- howz it going? I'm doing pretty good. Sometimes you have to have Mama Ru you atcha a bunch of times before it sinks in. I guess I neverreached that number of times, Darian. I knew the second I was up against you i waz out the door. You get it lady. I wish you all the luck in the world and only harbor enough resentment to write a long pointless message that you will have to clean and clean and clean and clean. But fo real tho you girlz are my heroes. XX BDLC"

*And Ned, it's a bummer you didn't stay in Seattle another 36 hours...you could sat between me and Matos at the live show hosted by Dela!

kate78, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 08:15 (nine years ago) link

ANYWAY, Dela, once again, was robbed. That final outfit of Darienne's looked like pantyhose.

kate78, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 08:18 (nine years ago) link

oh the sag of it all

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 April 2014 13:55 (nine years ago) link

If Darienne weren't a) very good at lipsyncing and b) a lot more level-headed in Untucked than most after being trashed on the runway I'd be more ARGH about it all, I admit.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 14:14 (nine years ago) link

Darienne's three looks were BAD. Dela is well put together but at least two of her looks did not fit the category. Her Banjee Girl look was well off the mark, and her Executive Realness look was way too whimsical. not that they were bad looks as they stood, but compared to what the other 3 put on the table, there was no question she was going to be in the bottom. Courtney's coasting on a look but she hit the mark in at least 2 of the three categories. so that's one more category than Dela. And she lost the lipsync - Darienne owned that. I like Dela, I'm sad to see her go, but I don't think it's that much of an outrage.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 April 2014 15:19 (nine years ago) link

I thought Courtney only hit the mark with her eleganza look. Her executive realness was really just Good Penny with a cellphone and a clipboard.

As for the outcome of the episode, the internet is already exploding so I'm gonna leave it at that. I will just say that I find it disapointing and unfair that a lipsync counts more than a challenge and an overall "body of work", especially at this point in the game.

What the.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 04:49 (nine years ago) link

OK I'm recovered a little to post an interesting discussion about the banji realness part of the ball, also, I still don't get the fuss over Adore and her executive realness look was embarrassing:

But also, how do you expect a bunch of white girls to nail banji girl realness? What do they know about being banji, besides what pop culture tells them what banji is?

[...]

Shea: There are so many blurred lines within the world of drag. They of course try and tap into so many different cultures and subcultures that live within the drag community, but when you’re gonna have a bunch of girls create a banji look based off of what’s in their wardrobe, it’s hard to expect a spot-on interpretation if it’s not close to their aesthetic.

Chad: So, do you think it placed the queens in an awkward position?

Shea: For some, yes. I think the term banji isn’t racially specific, I don’t mean to give that impression. But it does come from a place of poverty and lack of monetary comfort. Banji girls dress to excess because they want to live the life of the rich and famous, but they’re just ballin’ on a budget. That’s where a lack of taste comes in. But there are ways to interpret that exuberance and still make it polished.

good stuff

i'll be honest, I never really got the love for Dela in the first place. I dunno why exactly, I just didn't find her drag or her persona to be all that interesting...like, I don't mind not seeing more from her? idk. I'm mean, I guess.

You're Michelle Visage, in other words.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:51 (nine years ago) link

I always thought Ben would be in at the end, but I never saw her quite going all the way simply because I was thinking "Okay TWO retro minded drag queens from Seattle in a row -- and who know each other and are friends -- I'm not seeing that happening."

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:56 (nine years ago) link

And I really have grown to love Adore because she is SO SoCal yet at the same time has her talented side and as noted just above can be really fucking funny in the moment. Makes for a whole greater than the sum of the parts, and at that age, she'll be fine. If I had to rank the remaining four I'd say Bianca and Adore as top two for me, Courtney below and Darienne last.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 23:00 (nine years ago) link

Ironically Dela gets top toot of the week from Raven and Raja (these are taped without them knowing the outcome of the episode):

xp "The bar’s ingredients include milk chocolate, sea salt and peanut butter (a subtle nod to RuPaul’s single with Lady Bunny from last year)"

Yes making a candy bar with only chocolate and peanut butter is a very subtle nod to a song called "Peanut Butter"

Preach mama.

What Dela wrote was actually pretty funny and classy:

And as if we needed more confirmation that Monday's episode is just going to end with the same four going to the final event, on Tuesday we get the live taping of the reunion and coronation.

Finally caught back up and, yeah, Bendela's dismissal to allow room (sic) for Darienne's three uniformly horrifying ball looks to sail into the top 4?

I've cooled off on Dela as the season's progressed and I'm not offended at the thought of her not being in the finals; I'm more offended that promoting Darienne this week is a bald-faced attempt to spice up a comparatively flat, B+ season.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Sunday, 4 May 2014 20:30 (nine years ago) link

After rolling my eyes through much of last season's tedious Alyssa/Coco rivalry, it's weird to be hungry for even that brand of fabricated drama this time around. There aren't any truly compelling villains in the house. The biggest antagonist -- Laganga -- was loathed because she was a whiny victim, not because she was a ruthless bitch on wheels. Courtney is too nice to be as self-promoting as WIllam, Bianca is too caring to be as gleefully backstabby as the Heathers.

This season, it actually IS Rupaul's Best Friend Race!

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Sunday, 4 May 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

Yeah it reminds me of the end of season three after Shangela was finally out -- everything felt kinda 'oh nice' in the final episodes. Which I didn't mind!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 4 May 2014 20:44 (nine years ago) link

I didn't mind it there either. The most toxic of the Heathers and the most unpolished of the Boogers were both gone, leaving the best of both worlds.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Sunday, 4 May 2014 21:12 (nine years ago) link

I hated all that Heathers shit
