DJ DOG LATIN PRESENTS THE SPANNERS AND HOOVES PARTY!

???

mei (mei), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 07:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm pretty busy at the moment but I'll try and get on it. I wheeled that mix out again at a party for some 6th form kids and they went spacko.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 08:20 (seventeen years ago) link

In the meantime, here's a mix I made using mostly Border Community tracks. Plenty of minimal beats, some of the classics are missing but that's because I've used them in other mixes and I wanted to hear the tracks I'd missed in a nice order. Lemme know what you all think please!

Not to hand, no sorry. I can try and find out.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 07:11 (seventeen years ago) link

sovietpanda:
the tracklist looks good, maybe a little samey but it looks like you vary the tempo a bit and i really like that Bonde do Role tune. only thing i'll complain about is the 160kbps. bummers man.

yours fondly, harshaw. (mrgn), Thursday, 6 July 2006 15:59 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm looking for an old mix posted here. don't have the tracklisting and I think maybe it was mabye tyler's. opening track was ladytron's "destroy everything you touch". a really good mix that i'm sad i lost.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 6 July 2006 18:49 (seventeen years ago) link

hey Susan. I'm pretty sure it was a mix i made and posted months ago. Started with the Hot Chip mix of Destroy Everything you Touch and carried on with some other Skando disco. In fact, the mix was titled Discandolust or something. I have it at home and will re-up the mix soon.

biz (brother loves dub), Thursday, 6 July 2006 18:56 (seventeen years ago) link

i think this was the initial post:
-------------------------------------------
begins with: destroy everything you touch (hot chip mix)
ends with: Things That Dreams Are Made Of (Inst. and Vocal versions)

-- biz (b...), January 9th, 2006.

Will find it and YSI again.

Brian Geoghagan (brother loves dub), Thursday, 6 July 2006 18:57 (seventeen years ago) link

that's it! sorry not sure why i thought it was tyler's. i would love to have it again and if you have the complete track listing too, unless it is up top. thk you!!

thx-i looked thru the thread, twice! but somehow missed that post.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 6 July 2006 19:01 (seventeen years ago) link

disco noir :)

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 6 July 2006 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

hey Susan, here's a YSI link to the mix. I haven't had a chance to fill out the tracklist but besides the Human League Instrumental/Vocal mix at the end and the Hot CHip mix of Destroy everything you touch at the beginning, i know there's some LIndstrom remixes, Major Swellings, perhaps some Chicken Lips or Emperor Machine...i may be able to identify the mixes if you have specific points you want indentified but i never wrote down the tracks and it's been over 6 months since i mixed it. Thanks for listening...

Gunderson (Gunderson), Monday, 17 July 2006 23:33 (seventeen years ago) link

tricky, did you release on Kompakt speicher 30 or am I getting my trickys mixed up?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 00:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Tricky that mix looks good but do you really like "Paranoia"? It always strikes me as being a less convincing first draft of "Sweat".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 01:19 (seventeen years ago) link

my site is currently down because my hosting provider is having issues. it will probably be back up tomorrow.

i'm not responsible for speicher 30. "tricky disco" by tricky disco is indeed where my ILX/dj-ing pseudonym originates though. the kompakt guys cite the early bleep stuff as a formative influence so my guess is that's why it got the re-release on kompakt extra. check the mayer/thomas/voight group, forever sweet, as well.

oddly enough a certain michael wells was one of the creators of "tricky disco". coincidence? that song and the early greater than one, sweet exorcist and warp singles had a huge influence on my taste in music. there was post-detroit bleep and then sampling culture situationism! my mind reels down those recursive paths. the two greater than one albums and the singles are essential listening for anyone interested in the history of acid house, plunderphonics and sample/loop-based dance musics. i always admired the brazeness with which they sampled other artist's work. good stuff. to me it's less about influence than it is about pop and dj culture: music as the building block for music. maybe this isn't so interesting any more but back in the late 80s/early 90s it was a total revelation to me.

i like "paranoia" yeah. "sweat" is the hit which "paranoia" is the darker trackier side of. i like how the "narrator" of the track is basically reading spam emails. fits for an imaginary internet mix...
