maureen can't master her high

Ha, this reminds me of once when a woman told me about how scary weed was because the first time she tried it she ate several cookies and got really weird and I almost told her how stupid she was until I realized it was a totally inappropriate setting to cop to weed usage.

curling up into a fetal position and staring at the wall sounds more like a psychedelic kind of freakout rather than cannabis.

calstars, Thursday, 5 June 2014 00:32 (nine years ago) link

some people (me included) get hallucinatory or audio hallucinatory effects from weed

which, along with the intense paranoia, is why i quit smoking grass pretty much as soon as college was over

I get visual hallucinations (really just pretty patterns and lights, not something that would make me freak out) if I'm reaaaaaalllly high but thank fuck it doesn't give me paranoia

uppers epilepsy sh@kedown (The Reverend), Thursday, 5 June 2014 06:42 (nine years ago) link

man, i wish it didn't for me. it's kinda the most prominent side-effect or at least it was then. I'm certainly curious what the intervening time has done for my body chemistry but my guess is that with the steady improvement of the quality of weed, that candy bar woulda laid me the fuck out with delusions of evil bellhops too

Honestly, everything that's sold in California now should all just be called "don't make any plans."

went to colorado a couple weeks ago and tbh everything i smoked was pretty mellow, tried a couple different varieties, sativa/indica both, including a hash oil vaporizer and it was all pretty chill. i also haven't smoked in a good while before that so i thought i was gonna be wrecked but it was just really nice.

marcos, Thursday, 5 June 2014 14:01 (nine years ago) link

didn't try any edibles though

one month passes...

From this article:

She predicted her stash will last beyond six months. But she was soon joined in line by weed connoisseur George Vargas, 64. The two had a few things in common: Both are retirees and grandparents.

He, too, packed water, V8, Cabernet wine, Natural Light beer, a blanket and a pillow for the long wait. He would rely on a food truck for nourishment.

Vargas, a retired postal worker from Dallas, arrived in Seattle about a month ago after spending a few months in Denver.

“Everything else is falling in place,” he said. “The weather, the weed, the food and the women.”

Some people have been waiting a real long time.

Oregon will have a legalization initiative on the ballot in November. It will be interesting to watch how the campaign unfolds. My hunch is it will pass by a small margin, but I haven't seen a single poll on it yet, so my hunch is not very well informed. The legalization initiative two years ago was amazingly poorly conceived and written, but still got over 40% (including my vote).

Aimless, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 18:13 (nine years ago) link

^ i voted for that too, but yeh hopefully the new initiative is better conceived than the last

thinking of heading to the 'couve today to check all this craziness out!

^truth bomb

it's going to be really hilarious being the bitter conservative poor-ass crazy hick utah next door to new funtime trillionaire colorado, almost as hilarious as watching how this is going to play out in conservative western slope towns like grand junction.

medical in MA is taking forever, stores may not open until february 2015

marcos, Friday, 18 July 2014 15:33 (nine years ago) link

also all business applicants in boston were rejected

marcos, Friday, 18 July 2014 15:34 (nine years ago) link

VT will probably legalize sooner than medical is available in MA

marcos, Friday, 18 July 2014 15:34 (nine years ago) link

On Monday at 4:20 p.m. Eastern Time, Andrew Rosenthal, the editorial page editor, will be taking questions about marijuana legalization at facebook.com/nytimes.

Mordy, Saturday, 26 July 2014 23:26 (nine years ago) link

it's not going to lead to overnight legalization but it's a big deal

the late great, Saturday, 26 July 2014 23:53 (nine years ago) link

what is a more respectable US newspaper?

It's hated by a very large portion of the country

Now if Fox News had a major pro-legalization feature, that would be a big deal

otm, like when a newspaper endorses a presidential candidate. it's still pretty cool though and i am still excited about it. the more people who see legalization as a reasonable thing the more it is likely to happen

two weeks pass...

The authors caution that while these findings are predictive--meaning couples who smoke are less likely to commit domestic violence--they don't necessarily draw a causal line between the two behaviors. Among the connections they hypothesize, "marijuana may increase positive affect, which in turn could reduce the likelihood of conflict and aggression." Translation: stoned people are happy, and happy people don't fight.

Another possible mechanism: "chronic [marijuana] users exhibit blunted emotional reaction to threat stimuli, which may also decrease the likelihood of aggressive behavior."

Mordy, Tuesday, 26 August 2014 23:45 (nine years ago) link

Last Sunday the local newspaper, The Oregonian, editorially endorsed the Oregon legalization initiative.
