if you have an ugly daughter, hang your head in shame or try again for a beautiful one

If I said you had a beautiful daughter, would you hold her against me?

Disagree. And im not into firey solos chief. (Phil D.), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 14:14 (nine years ago) link

I am still amazed by women who steadfastly refuse to post photographs of themselves on Facebook, but upload hundreds of pictures of their children at every whim.

To be blunt, I suppose there's a "I'm too fat and my children are cute" mentality behind it, but if you're going to post crazy amounts of pix to your open and public profile at all...

pplains, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 14:38 (nine years ago) link

uhhhh not necessarily the conclusion i would rush to there, buddy

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 14:40 (nine years ago) link

yeah obvs this is some "don't abduct me, take these grinning cherubs in my stead" strategizing

Mordy, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 14:50 (nine years ago) link

Well basically "my children are cuter than me" is why I'd assume those photos outnumber the actual profile member's pix. And I'm mostly talking about profiles where there are like only two out of hundreds of pix that are of the actual person.

pplains, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 15:51 (nine years ago) link

I pretty much only post pics of my kid on Facebook, though tbf I am fat and ugly.

Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 15:59 (nine years ago) link

I am a man btw.

Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:00 (nine years ago) link

I'm a fat, old and ugly man. I guarantee people would rather see pictures of my kid than me any day of the week.

djenter the dragon? (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:20 (nine years ago) link

I can find pix of you all.

Here's where this comes up: we'll have someone's name in the newspaper where I work and for online art, I'll find a photo from our archives of someone with the same name. But is it the same person? One way I can tell is by looking up their Facebook profile and matching info up there.

And I can't tell you how many times I have found albums upon albums of their kids, available to anybody in the public who happens by, but all of their profile pics are locked up. It's just weird priorities.

I mean, shit, I post nothing but kid photos too, but I don't have them set to public and there are photos of me in there as well.

pplains, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:27 (nine years ago) link

have mixed feelings about ppl sharing pictures of their kids on FB

macklin' rosie (crüt), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:28 (nine years ago) link

I like photos of ppl with their kids but just kids gets me down.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:29 (nine years ago) link

Beeps will ask me if I'm going to post a pic so her friend across town can see it (thru her mother's account.)

A few years ago, I would've been pretty adamant about anyone under 10 not having a Facebook acct, but if there was a way to just keep info between those two, I think we could handle it.

pplains, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:35 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I had wanted to make some kind of private, password-protected blog or something where I could post all of my kids' pics so that my parents or a select group of friends could view. But I don't even know where I would start with that, so I've just shrugged my shoulders for now and put the pics up on facebook. I think about it maybe once a week if anyone has any suggestions.

And this is much more complicated than I'm letting on, yes.

pplains, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:35 (nine years ago) link

We set up a facebook account for my son a few years ago. He rarely used it, mostly it was just interaction between him and his mother. We only let him friend one neighborhood kid who we knew really well. A few months ago, FB shut it down. Apparently I had set it up so that it said he was born in 1987 or something and they somehow screened him out. He's still under their age limit, but I set up a new one for him with his age set at 13. I dunno. Hope it works out for him.

how's life, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:38 (nine years ago) link

Yeah FB seems like the worst way to try to privately transmit any information.

Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:39 (nine years ago) link

the mafia and drug dealers use burner accounts. one fb message, and the account is abandoned.

Sufjenga Cat Giffin (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:49 (nine years ago) link

Some cats will sometimes try to sell me one of those, saying there's still some Farmville points on it, but that's a fool's scam.

remember it's a lot easier to take pics of your kids than of yourself. I hardly have any pics of myself cos no-one else takes them.

Again, a locked folder of profile pics accompanying a wide-open folder full of kids photos. I'm not generalizing here.

pplains, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:43 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I've seen that too. I check my fb profile through View As every so often just to make sure my settings are still keeping everything locked up.

A distant aunt added me on Facebook about a month before my Grandfather's funeral, and because *every* photo she uploaded, I had no idea who she was when she approached me at the funeral. Ffs, lady.

Back in the day, I posted pics of my two, here, on the odd occasion.

Yes they are cuter than me but also I don't tend to take pictures of myself.
