What do you sound like on Nu-ILX?

(i just listened to it a few min ago because i had to delete a bunch of stuff from soundcloud to make room to upload something else)

idk if other people will like it. it's just a fanatical thing I made for myself to aid in self-hypnosis.

I like Z_S song and even though it's not posted here I like La Lechera playing drums for Guided by Voices. Listening to crutmusic now.

My very first EP, containing the very first songs I wrote when I was around 16. (It's in German)

Now that I got them out of the way, I can hopefully concentrate on newer/better material now.

i recorded a live set for public television. this probably the first time i've really heard what it sounds like when i play drums over the tracks, just glad it was in the pocket for at least the majority of the time and that the mix was decent.

So the other week my band got together for the first time in weeks and unbeknown to me the bassist had been learning looping sample tricks. Which he applied to my vocals live as I sang. And they came out a little like this.

Thanks! I was startled by it as it happened. I had no idea Ben had looping pedals, it was weird to sing with that going on but when I realised it, I kinda went with it. Its sad it'll never be the same way twice is the only thing.

NA 'Vice President' is a sweet song. Sort of reminds me of the controlled unhingedness that YLT has on some of their better louder songs

Thanks for listening KM. I always thought it would be funny to have a stoner rock band called Vice President but the second best option was using the name for a heavy psych song (or what's a heavy psych song in my mind).

NA i liked how your album had all kinds of different songs on it but they all were you, so they sounded coherent
also as i mentioned, sensitive family song --> frozen grapes was a stroke of genius

here is one thing i did -- it's all me! drums + my little synth. it would sound better with something else in the mix but i left it as is because i was excited that it sounded ok at all. there's at least one noticeable flub in the middle. http://bit.ly/YpsS8s

I'm glad it sounds cohesive. It was supposed to be more cohesive/have more of a shared sound across the songs but I'm not good at sticking to plans like that. I'm really happy with how the album turned out though.

don't take this the wrong way (you do not sound anything like lou barlow at his sappiest) but it reminds me of what i liked about peak era sebadoh -- catchy songs, variety, some unexpected but welcome turns. except that was 3 songwriters and you are still 1 person afaik :)

Oh it's def going for old-school lo-fi 4-track home recording aesthetic, intentionally not "clean" (though I don't know if I could do clean if I tried), though I was never into Sebadoh specifically. That's my wheelhouse.

true, you do get the folks who will go in whether there's money to be made or not. for instance my brass band plays a version of 'r3d dress' aka 'h1gh heel sneakers', a blues, and a relative of the artist who originally recorded it is relentless as far as going after license fees wherever it shows up. my favorite live video of us ever recently got taken off youtube because it contained the last few bars of that tune (and unfortunately it was in the title of the video).
