I saw Manson open for the Smashing Pumpkins 2 years ago on the "End Times" tour, I was close to the front & got there toward the end of Manson's set. it was all teenagers/young twenty-somethings in the front, who promptly left before the Pumpkins came on lol

the best part of his career arc is former associates and friends figuring out the "I'm so DAMAGED" shtick isn't something he's going to jettison at some point where he cleans up his personal life -- it's his core ethos, more so than making interesting music

then it's a matter of who actually can stand being in the same room with him for more than a half hour

the last record was fairly solid and what i've heard from this one was good too. he's been working with the guy who did the music for JOHN WICK.

he makes showtunes now! well, not of the stage variety but the type of theme/incidental music that fits pretty well with the movie soundtrack model. feel like that partnership is like him working with a dramaturge to craft new material for his persona

The closer Marilyn Manson's music gets to "Rebel, Rebel", the more I like it.

last record was NOT good and this one is fucking TERRIBLE and yah he's working with the dude that does the shitty music for Guardians of the Galaxy so it sounds like She Wants Revenge trying really hard with dubstep wub wubs and it's so bad and the lyrics are so dumb and he still brags about banging strippers like Bret Michaels or something this guy is the corniest worst idiot

I also liked the last album :/ but I'm not v impressed with the singles from this latest one

Anyway, I still think Mechanical Animals is great, and I still like parts of Antichrist Superstar, but that's about it.

I saw him on the Holy Wood tour, was pretty good. That's partly what makes him so lame, that he's pretty smart and can be compelling without the boringly transgressive garbage, but still feels the need to lean so hard on that lazy shit.

enh, for all the image stuff there was nothing all that try-hard I can recall on the last album. pretty standard goth-rock themes.

Well, it's not about the records, it's about the performance. That's where all the "transgressive" shit comes out. It's not like any of his songs are innately shocking or offensive. It's his stage show and persona that got him branded a boogeyman. The Bible ripping, the cartoon fascist costumes. Like, the piece of set that fell on him was two giant guns, right?
