I quite liked Pale Emperor but this single is dire.

When did MM turn into Paul Dano?

Pheeel, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 14:23 (six years ago) link

a lesser artist would have settled on the song title "Jesus Crisis" without the dollar signs

Vinnie, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 14:57 (six years ago) link

Does that one have lyrics about the PTL Club?

pplains, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 15:15 (six years ago) link

I like the political commentary Tab subtly slipped in

he's no different than Charles Manson, Hitler, or Obama ordering kids to be killed.

Tattooed In Reverse

so what, the tattoo artist sucks ink out of your flesh with a tattoo gun?

Would be a great name, if only it was a live album.

I would love to know the demographics of a Manson show in 2017. Is it still mostly teenagers or now 30-something year olds?

So, it seems that he decided to flick Alexis Petridis' testicles during an interview...

And got ambushed with a gun to his neck (a fake one, but he didn't know that).

Amazing article, esp given what happened.

Brian Warner is 48 years old.

and delectable.

Anyway, I still think Mechanical Animals is great, and I still like parts of Antichrist Superstar, but that's about it.

I hear he named the guns Kelbold and Harris...

I saw Manson open for the Smashing Pumpkins 2 years ago on the "End Times" tour, I was close to the front & got there toward the end of Manson's set. it was all teenagers/young twenty-somethings in the front, who promptly left before the Pumpkins came on lol

Marilyn Manson: Give it to me straight, Doc. Is this the spookiest injury you’ve ever treated?
Doctor (lying): Yes

Marilyn Manson: Tell me, Doc, has anyone ever died in this hospital?
Doctor: Yes
Marilyn Manson: Woah ... gnarly

Erotic Wolf (crüt), Monday, 2 October 2017 14:05 (six years ago) link

the best part of his career arc is former associates and friends figuring out the "I'm so DAMAGED" shtick isn't something he's going to jettison at some point where he cleans up his personal life -- it's his core ethos, more so than making interesting music

then it's a matter of who actually can stand being in the same room with him for more than a half hour

mh, Monday, 2 October 2017 15:37 (six years ago) link

the last record was fairly solid and what i've heard from this one was good too. he's been working with the guy who did the music for JOHN WICK.

maura, Monday, 2 October 2017 17:55 (six years ago) link

he makes showtunes now! well, not of the stage variety but the type of theme/incidental music that fits pretty well with the movie soundtrack model. feel like that partnership is like him working with a dramaturge to craft new material for his persona

mh, Monday, 2 October 2017 18:16 (six years ago) link

The closer Marilyn Manson's music gets to "Rebel, Rebel", the more I like it.

more Allegro-like (Turrican), Monday, 2 October 2017 18:53 (six years ago) link

last record was NOT good and this one is fucking TERRIBLE and yah he's working with the dude that does the shitty music for Guardians of the Galaxy so it sounds like She Wants Revenge trying really hard with dubstep wub wubs and it's so bad and the lyrics are so dumb and he still brags about banging strippers like Bret Michaels or something this guy is the corniest worst idiot

kurt schwitterz, Monday, 2 October 2017 20:11 (six years ago) link

I also liked the last album :/ but I'm not v impressed with the singles from this latest one

Actually, hang on, I liked Holy Wood too, it was The Golden Age of Grotesque where I stopped listening.

more Allegro-like (Turrican), Monday, 2 October 2017 20:22 (six years ago) link

lol I didn't remember what thread this originally was

Marcus Hiles Remains Steadfast About Planting Trees.jpg (DJP), Monday, 2 October 2017 20:32 (six years ago) link

I saw him on the Holy Wood tour, was pretty good. That's partly what makes him so lame, that he's pretty smart and can be compelling without the boringly transgressive garbage, but still feels the need to lean so hard on that lazy shit.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 2 October 2017 20:35 (six years ago) link

enh, for all the image stuff there was nothing all that try-hard I can recall on the last album. pretty standard goth-rock themes.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 2 October 2017 20:36 (six years ago) link

Well, it's not about the records, it's about the performance. That's where all the "transgressive" shit comes out. It's not like any of his songs are innately shocking or offensive. It's his stage show and persona that got him branded a boogeyman. The Bible ripping, the cartoon fascist costumes. Like, the piece of set that fell on him was two giant guns, right?
