Name a SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER that does not have !, # or $ in it.

I bet you can't ;)

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 14:59 (nine years ago) link

the worst thing about those is exactly like this thread. even if its something totally obvious people just keep doing it because some fuckin gif said "bet you can't".

add these two numbers and get a new number, bet you can't: 5 + 7

ps only clever people can answer this

multiply an even number by an odd number to get an odd number. clever people can answer this.

Karl, there's another one floating around that reads "Say a name that starts with the letter Z. 4 out of 5 people will fail"
/too much time on ilx

What are some of these that are actually a brainteaser? I always get taken in by that elephant in Denmark one.

those riddles going around are a means of people garnering more clicks/hits for their FB pages so they can show up in more people's feeds iirc

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 15:55 (nine years ago) link

Not all of them are cynical tricks to get more page views. I note that no one on this thread has been able to solve my riddle

a childhood friend of my sisters' i vaguely knew from when they were kids posted one of those banality followed by a threat macros that had some bible verse about following jesus and then 'like and you will go to heaven. ignore and you will go to hell.' i 'liked' it and then commented 'hope this works!' and she defriended me. my stepmother keeps posting these things to my wall of dogs that have come to some horrible end so i get to open facebook and o joy there's that story about cops slitting a shar-pei's throat in front of its owner cuz it wasn't on a leash. with images. thx. i think she had mentioned one of these stories to me once irl and i had agreed that yes torturing and killing dogs is horrible and may have mentioned that sometimes i harbor dreams of tracking down and killing these cops that kill dogs cuz it looked at them funny or barked at them and now here i am, some eli roth version of sarah mclachlan everyday. the other thing that's been happening is when some friend will have maybe engaged in slightly creepy but not that creepy behavior that maybe facebook doesn't need to let everybody know about ie __________ just liked four photos from the official dawn wells page.

There is a certain quality I've noticed lately akin to "Fox turning into a porn channel so slowly, nobody noticed," except it's "my family turned into 4chan posters so slowly, no one blinked an eye."

The idea is to fill FB with more music, breaking the monotony of selfies and sensationalism. If you "like" this post you will be assigned a letter. Your task is to choose a band, musician or artist whose name begins with that letter, then post a link to a track by them on YOUR timeline, with this text as your status update... I received C.

i have this one fb "friend" who posts republican/anti-government/anti-immigrant image macros along with inspirational zig ziglar quotes about teh american dream and stuff like that and then posts stuff about how if you have any problem with him then you're obviously just jealous.

I just really don't get what this is actually getting at. There's going to be an earthquake that's going to blow up the gas pipeline, and that's in turn going to somehow blow up the nuclear power plant? I don't think that's how it works.

i've stopped seeing these macros as much lately but i've also started being more vigilant about blocking people who post them (it's still probably not as many people who have blocked me after too many "life with the kid" updates but...)

I was thinking "pizzazz" because there's only one z and two blanks.

lol antidisestablishmentarianism lol

Sufjan Grafton, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 18:28 (nine years ago) link

PIZZAZZ -- turn a few N's sideways
CHARACTERISTICALLY -- play over 2 turns (CHARACTERISTIC, ALLY) on 2 lines, use a sideways I or one of the blanks as a hyphen

Plasmon, Thursday, 3 July 2014 13:50 (nine years ago) link

with those rules, why not just turn the board over and use a magic marker to write whatever word you want on the back

everybody loves lana del raymond (s.clover), Thursday, 3 July 2014 14:00 (nine years ago) link

Ah, a video has started playing automatically in my feed. Could this be some sort of hilarious Damage Contrlol Youtube wonder or... oh... no, it's an Iranian man beating his wife/Korean woman kicking the shit out of her new born child/Skinhead drowning a puppy. Thanks, Facebook poster, what the fuck?

3kDk (dog latin), Thursday, 3 July 2014 14:01 (nine years ago) link

These appear often with no commentary at all. Either that or it's 'This terrible person needs to be stopped NOW, share with yr friends' and then people commenting saying the video is from 2006 and the person in question has been in jail for nearly a decade.

3kDk (dog latin), Thursday, 3 July 2014 14:03 (nine years ago) link

Can't play on the back of the board, no way of knowing where the double word scores are.

Tried writing on the front of the board, but after a while all my games ended up the same. :(
