It will take just 60 seconds to read this and change your thinking..

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on
vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color
and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band -he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with
descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body
of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left
him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this
window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.'

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

'Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present. Don't just hit LIKE but hit SHARE because somebody may need to read this! E-Fetti

It faced a river of fire.

but it does make me wonder, why we can - the viewers - see the scene outside? are we blind as well?

Why would the second guy have believe the first guy when he was describing an inaudible band?

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 08:24 (nine years ago) link

also kinda weird that they would talk for hours and weeks or whatever and the subject of the one guy's blindness never came up, makes him seem kinda insincere or sociopathic really

it's an odd one really.

Basically dude 1 makes up a bunch of stuff to make dude 2 feel better but it's still not true.

Bit like religion really..

A twist (which I'm not really bitching about):

#RubbleBucketChallenge. #IceBucketChallenge
In Gaza we don't have water and when we have water, we can't make it ice since the electricity is off most of the time. So my cousin Hafiz, My nephew Khalid and I used remains of a destroyed house to participate in this challenge. I am not nominating anyone for this challenge but I am asking you all to show solidarity with Palestinians and to participate in this challenge.
Thank you in advance
— in Gaza, Palestine.

Video is of two adult guys and a kid in Gaza. They pour buckets of dirt/finer particles on the kid and on one guy and the third guy dumps a bucket of rubble on his head, which looks like it would hurt. (video was posted directly to Facebook, not YT, so I'm not posting it here)

Charles Mingus
15 hrs ·

In 1977, Charles Mingus was diagnosed with ALS. On January 5, 1979, he passed away at age 56 in Mexico. He was cremated the next day. On the day of his death, 56 sperm whales beached themselves in Mexico and were removed by fire.

With or without an ice bucket, we remember Mingus in our support of the ALS Association.

lol at that car driving by, just imagining someone driving to work and seeing ice bucket challenges left and right, in the middle of the road, ice falling from the heavens, a man is dead on the ground and a lamb is crawling out of his stomach, hellfire

That scenario is not to ridiculous. There was a day last week when I saw three IBCs happening on my way home from work. None fatal. One of them was right outside my office, which has a little garden with a hose and some people from a condo across the street decided they'd just help themselves and do it on my steps for fucks sake. Then there was a mass one with about six people getting drenched outside Denny's. Then there was a kid on the sidewalk getting cup after cup of water chucked at him by about five buddies. Shit is outta control.

an old acquaintance from high school (she was in choir with me, and was my madrigals partner) recently went through a pre-emptive mastectomy due to having an 85% risk of acquiring breast cancer due to a rare disorder. And then not too long after, she went through a divorce with her husband of three years. they took a selfie of them smiling together from the courthouse, not as a means of "LOL", but showing that divorce doesn't have to wreck the two of you afterwards, and that they still care for each other.

it went viral over the internet and they've become known as the divorce selfie couple and even though it's the most innocuous thing on the planet the vitriol some bro-ish assholes spewed at them just makes me think that people can shit on anything. oi...

yeah it blew up fast. she posted it on her FB only about a week ago, a few small blogs got wind of it, then HuffPo got it and that kind of kickstarted it exploding.
