I AM THE OPPOSITE OF AMNESIA

uberweiss, Monday, 8 September 2014 18:59 (nine years ago) link

this doesn't sound as bad as i was expecting post "light em up", still not very good by their standards though

i don't really care though as long as it gets the album out

suppose it was a matter of time before we got their specific transfiguration of imagine dragons

that said i dig it

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 8 September 2014 19:23 (nine years ago) link

I'm liking it less with subsequent listens.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Monday, 8 September 2014 19:26 (nine years ago) link

itunes is showing that I've purchased it, but says that I've got nothing available for download. I listened to a youtube of it a little bit ago. I wasn't won over immediately. Seems to rely too much on the chorus, which isn't that strong. My first impression is of a not-particularly cool b-side. But I'll be sure to give it a more serious listen.

That said, is it really more Imagine Dragons-influenced than Save Rock and Roll?

i'm still waiting for "young volcanoes" to become a ubiquitous anthem tho

uberweiss, Tuesday, 9 September 2014 00:09 (nine years ago) link

This is a shit song :(

definitely seems like "My Songs" has stoked their hunger to soundtrack more sporting event telecasts. the last album really grew on me and turned out to be a pretty nice varied collection of song, though, so i'm anticipating the LP.

some dude, Tuesday, 9 September 2014 00:28 (nine years ago) link

i wish the chorus didn't flatten into the chant the way it does - it's a weird opposite-resolution sort of thing. also what will be the third item to round out the '90s interpolations by wentz-affiliated bands' trend?

i do love how this song has been playing on espn since late august though

maura, Tuesday, 9 September 2014 15:37 (nine years ago) link

what's the other 90s interpolation?

"Centuries" was written by Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman, Andy Hurley, Justin Tranter, Michael Fonseca and Raja Kumari in mid-2014 and was produced by J.R. Rotem and Omega.

Lotta chefs, seemingly.

rotem???????????????

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Didn't realize they were featured on the new Aoki record either.

heard Centuries on the radio the other day so I guess some folk like it

Simon H., Tuesday, 30 September 2014 20:34 (nine years ago) link

really one of the worst songs on the air rn, just crushingly overbearing. it's like i'm being berated, but what for? the OG hook could get famously annoying but never lost an irreducible nimbleness, this just steamrollers it into something grim. the whole enterprise feels cynical.

Ah, it's in the background of this. Can't hear it too well through my work headphones. Sounds more "Centuries" than "Save Rock and Roll" though.

how's life, Thursday, 9 October 2014 12:16 (nine years ago) link

it sounds way funkier than "centuries"

but again can barely hear it

Better audio about halfway through in this one. It doesn't sound particularly thrilling. Glad they're getting some movie money though.

guessing it's called "immortals"

One of my kids made me download "Immortals" after seeing Big Hero 6. I have now heard it 57 times. It's not much of a song, but it's better than the Imagine Dragons song he made me download from the Transformers soundtrack.

Did I just hear Pete Wentz namedrop Sebastian Tellier in reference to their new single (which I want to hear in a HQ version before I make any real verdict abt it)
