one month passes...

FAPpery: a modest proposal

Obviously, this will take months to organise, so let's start now and try to time it with the Scottish summer ...

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:37 (fifteen years ago) link

I will be in Glasgow the first week of August -probably around on 2nd or 3rd for a FAP

Dr.C, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:55 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah grimly, it would indeed be good to catch up w/ you and other glasilxors, tho i'm out of town quite a bit in May/June - still want to meet Jed and cozwn, and I'm pretty sure i've seen krakow taking pics at things like instal

think this cld be quite a special gig, btw:

http://www.sublimefrequencies.com/eurotour.html

oh and a Dr. C FAP in August would be sweet!

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Nice one, WF: that'd be superb. I'm away at the end of May as well ... which means I'm going to miss that rather-fantastic-sounding Sublime Frequencies thing, as well as some stuff I'd have liked to see at the Perth Festival ... but let's keep checking in here and see if we can sort something out.

Dr C: rocking! Have pencilled that into my diary.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 13:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm up for a drink. i didn't know nick had moved away from glasgow!?

jed_, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 16:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Sounds cool

Keith, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean a drink, not Nick having moved away.

Keith, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Aye, without great fanfare he headed off down south.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

As a result of Nick's leaving do, I am shifting my statutory NOT MONO stance to be NOT 13th NOTE. Actually, I was in Mono for the first time in aeons the other day, and they appear to serve actual real Guinness now (except I wasn't drinking) so I might even agree to go back.

Dr C, that is the first weekend of my summer holiday! Hopefully we won't have gone anywhere that early, and we can go drink booze.

ailsa, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Hurrah! What was so bad about the Note, then? Last time I was in there it was a bit shit, but that was aeons ago.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Allan said it was metal, like that was a bad thing!

Keith, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

It was loud, and full of smelly metallers. Whenever the band did metally things downstairs, the floor rattled beneath our feet. Also almost £5 for a glass of wine, so fuck that. WetherspoonFAP plz! (actually Wetherspoon real-ale-festival FAP actually would be good*, because I am getting quite into cheapo stouts for less than £1.50)

* good company countering the fact that, y'know, it's Wetherspoons

ailsa, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 18:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Great! Having looked at the calendar, I think my most likely free evening is Monday 3rd - I'm possibly around on Tuesday 4th, but may have a party of Chinese, Koreans, Japanese and Brazilians to look after on that evening! I may not be there on the Sunday - I dunno yet.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

hi ailsa, ppl always tell me that the veggie food in the 13th note is much better than the food in mono, but i've only eaten a perfectly acceptable veggie chillie in the latter - i have seen a cpl of amazing gigs at mono, whereas my experience of the 13th note is of a crowded, hot, bad sounding shithole - not that keen on stereo either as a venue but they have some gd gigs there, too

i like the cca! but poss not as place to 'hang out'

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 19:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I like the CCA, the food is free! At least, it was some years ago.

Keith, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 20:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Anyone going to Hinterland?

@Ward Fowler, I think I've spotted you too, but never gone up to attempt saying hi yet - next time... if you see me, say hi too. I'm friendly, promise.

krakow, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 20:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I had thought about Hinterland, but it's all a bit too condensed into things I like all on at or around the same time, so I'm going to sit at home and recreate the magic in a slightly less clashing, if not quite live, format via the magic of Spotify, iTunes, and a bottle of wine. Or something.

ailsa, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

i would be down for fap in the summer, i know krakow totally independently of ilx anyway so that would make things easier for fairly shy me.

Suggesteban Cambiasso (jim), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 22:23 (fifteen years ago) link

I'll fap

zinguist (cozwn), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 22:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm in.

krakow, Thursday, 30 April 2009 09:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I'd be up for a Glasgow fap at some point

treefell, Thursday, 30 April 2009 09:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Superb. Of course, the tradition with these things is everyone says "aye, go on" and fuck all happens.

Early May is good for me but probably not for Ward; late May's out for me ... shall we try to plan something in June? Ward ... do you know when you'll be about for sure that month?

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 30 April 2009 09:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Loads of free Hinterland tickets floating about, which suggests sales haven't been too good. No wonder: at £25 for about 4 bands it's just not value for money. Shameless plug: I'll be playing with the Guanoman Big Band at Nice & Sleazy's tomorrow around 9pm. Ridiculous cosmic proggy noise rawk. You know it makes sense! Krakow and I shall be running between Sleazys and the Arches tonight: RememberRemember, DeSalvo, The Fall and then Rustie at the SubClub.

Stew, Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:13 (fifteen years ago) link

where are they floating? i'd like to see the fall but i'm not paying to not-see a load of pish as well.

jed_, Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:16 (fifteen years ago) link

me too...

?

zinguist (cozwn), Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeh, Hinterland just didn't excite me at all. Mind, I'm just -- as in within the past hour -- emerging from a month of essy woe, so I've not been paying much attention. (Has a look ...) ... nah, still not very excited at all.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Er, "essay" woe. Christ, let's hope I've done a better job of typing than that, eh kids?

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:41 (fifteen years ago) link

I hadn't even heard of Hinterland, and I pride myself on hearing about things. Weird lineup, a couple of big bands, a couple of reasonably big bands, and lots of nobodies (not that there's anything wrong with being a nobody), with not much in between. Spend all their money on The Fall, did they?

I haven't been to Glasgow for so long that anybody who happened to recognised me as that guy who's around must think I'm dead or far away. :'(

Ralph, Waldo, Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:05 (fifteen years ago) link

"I hadn't even heard of Hinterland, and I pride myself on hearing about things."

me too kinda. i only heard about it this past weekend.

jed_, Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:07 (fifteen years ago) link

If anyone does genuinely want tickets then I have a couple going free. Let me know and we can hopefully arrange a mutually-convenient meeting point.

krakow, Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:36 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm away from glasgow between 1st May to the 4th May, 28th May to the 1st June, 19th June to the 26th June - all else is good!

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:53 (fifteen years ago) link

going free as in free or as in available?

zinguist (cozwn), Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Free as in available for nowt, costing zero pounds and pence (I don't drink, so you can even be beholden to buy me a beer), and generally frollicing unhindered across mountain meadows.

krakow, Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:22 (fifteen years ago) link

can I bagsy two?

zinguist (cozwn), Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Just sent you a webmail.

krakow, Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:28 (fifteen years ago) link

If there are any other free tickets going for tomorrow, please webbymail me. I didn't want to spend lots of money that I don't have, but if they are just being given away, I would be up for it (would need two to drag mate along as well). Would have liked to have seen The Fall, but am too tired for going out on a schoolnight, but could go a couple of gigs tomorrow if it wasn't costing owt more than a few beers. Basically, I am not paying £23.50 to see iLiKeTrAiNs.

ailsa, Thursday, 30 April 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

yes (predictably!) i'm up for freebies too.

jed_, Thursday, 30 April 2009 16:40 (fifteen years ago) link

I've not heard back from cozwn yet, so not sure what the state of play is, but I've arranged to give one away elsewhere. If you can make it to Avalanche Records then there could be more free tickets available there if you know the secret word.

jed_ are you wanting to go tonight or tomorrow?

krakow, Thursday, 30 April 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

if you have unlimited can jed grab two for me, if you only have the two you offered me, give them to jed :D
