damn wow

I went into my 5's port yesterday and scraped out a bunch of lint n stuff & it was a little easier to get it to charge today, so I'm hoping that's all it was. I don't want to go all fixerupper on it if I don't have to (do NOT want to get a new phone right now)

just dont use those cheap ass third part charging cables kids! take it from me

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:12 (nine years ago) link

I actually noticed that a third-party cable acted up in the car and didn't maintain a connection well whereas the apple one worked fine. Wonder if that's only been a problem with the lightning cables.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:15 (nine years ago) link

I think I maybe fucked up my 4S's dock connector with a cheap cable before (my friend has now replaced the connector for me). The Apple cables are so OTT expensive though. I wish I could just find a midrange one I could trust. Actually I did: an Amazon-branded one, but it's black rather than white and has the Amazon logo stinking things up a bit.

Alba, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:16 (nine years ago) link

yeah i guess there are third party ones that are approved by apple but im too shook now i bought an official one

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:18 (nine years ago) link

I almost bought a third party laptop charger but then I bit the bullet

Ah, I didn't think before to search for MFi (Made For iPhone) in my search:

sick work lagoon la
my iphones battery is failing and ive watched several of those videos
the cost differential of buying replacement battery and philips 00 whatever screwdriver vs getting a professional to do it is minimal, perhaps £25
nonetheless i would like to replace it myself, not that i ever fix anything myself but the phone is somehow personal in a way idk a microwave or whatever isnt
still its just too intricate and idont really trust myself to replace it without fucking something up so its probably going to the repair people
regards,

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:34 (nine years ago) link

I would fix my phone before my microwave because my phone is less capable of killing me imo

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

if u break ur phone u r basically dead tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:41 (nine years ago) link

your phone is a microwave though

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:55 (nine years ago) link

not a very good one

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 19:58 (nine years ago) link

Does anybody know of a good breakdown of the iPhone 6's subsidized vs. unsubsidized cost structure

I know that back in the day you'd save like $500 if you bought the phone outright

Playing around on AT&T and verizon now though I'm not so sure

, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:02 (nine years ago) link

i read something that said it was cheaper to buy still, verizon even has a plan for that now i think

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:04 (nine years ago) link

Yeah Verizon has a $60 a month plan that's pretty sweet for single users

I'm trying to get a family share thing going

Might move to Cricket or Straight Talk

, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:08 (nine years ago) link

$60 a month without a subsidised phone? Ha – you can get that deal for £23 (£37.50) a month over in the UK, with unlimited data, minutes and texts.

Alba, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:51 (nine years ago) link

Or £15 if you don't need unlimited minutes.

Alba, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:51 (nine years ago) link

we dont appreciate hearing abt other countries phone plans in the usa

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:52 (nine years ago) link

Your phone won't work in America tho

, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:52 (nine years ago) link

They confiscate that shit at the border. Security risk

, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:52 (nine years ago) link

we r too busy innovating for u to have cheap phone plans

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:53 (nine years ago) link

im building a new internet right now

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:53 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I discovered recently that innovation v cheapness is actually the justification for broadband being so expensive in the US. And the US might be right! It's just we're still waiting on that innovation.

Alba, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 20:59 (nine years ago) link

my phone plan has to work across a reasonable part of 9.6 million square kilometers, not some piddly island

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 21:01 (nine years ago) link

broadband is expensive because we have roughly one person per square kilometer in the US

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 21:02 (nine years ago) link

that was an exaggeration, it's more like 32

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link

That would only make sense for broadband in an infrastructure set-up where companies can't cherry-pick high-density areas. It goes back to the 2002 FCC ruling:

Getting the dock connector repair kit, even though I got an iPhone 6. I can see one of the pins in my iPhone 5 is all squished down, and it has been destroying lightning cables (pin gets all oxidized for some reason). Wish me luck!

schwantz, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 22:39 (nine years ago) link

6+ really does seem a bit bendy

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:16 (nine years ago) link

what's the deal with people destroying extremely expensive pieces of technology through drop tests and bend tests? for what? a few thousand youtube hits?

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link

yup

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:51 (nine years ago) link

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:52 (nine years ago) link

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:52 (nine years ago) link

Feel like he shoulda been scientific and measured how much torque he was applying + used a laser level r something

, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:55 (nine years ago) link

i like how he just cranked on it it bent super easy what a piece

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:56 (nine years ago) link

eleven million jeezo. does that add up to the price of an iphone 6 plus?

i just watched one where a guy said "you don't want to get into actions like extreme sitting" [with it in your pocket]

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:57 (nine years ago) link

lmao is that like parkour

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:57 (nine years ago) link

this is bullshit, phones shouldn't bend

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:58 (nine years ago) link

Dunno what rates are like now but 11 million hits should easily cover the cost of a iphone 6 plus

, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:58 (nine years ago) link

doubt that video is monetized theyre doin it to run the ads for their company at the beginning and end

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:59 (nine years ago) link

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 23:59 (nine years ago) link
