Hmmmm, this certainly wasn't the repository of rememberin' the times that I had hoped it would be.

eight years pass...

never actually on purpose. but my first year at my current company, when I was still on the phones myself, I needed to transfer a caller over to Metlife to help with dental claim questions they had.

Metlife's phone number is 1-800-MET-LIFE, but that day I misremembered it as 1-888-MET-LIFE - which was....not an insurance carrier. when I went to do the conference call, I heard the lurid tones of a sex line worker narrating the menu of a raunchy sex line. at the time, I'd never learned how to 'cancel' a conference call, so I panicked, thinking I did it the right way.

but what I actually did was conference in the customer with the sex line, then hung up in a panic, leaving her alone with the sex line.

MetLife must just love having their that doppelganger number existing; gotta believe dozens of callers make that same mistake. Wonder if the phone sex line chose that number intentionally, the way p0rn sites used to grab URLs that were misspelled names of big companies

I'm definitely sure they do it on purpose, though Metlife is a bit of a stretch to spoof.
