no emotional logorrhea? cmooon just this once

VW also had an ad with Hoover(phonic) around the same time.

I'll simply say that Cap.IV is one of those rare pieces of music where, whenever it plays, I just have to stop whatever I'm doing and *listen*

when hurricane charlie/frances came through my town and we were without power for a few days i had a burned copy of garbage ep and a portable cd player, and now associate that track with intense humidity and candlelight

clouds, Friday, 3 October 2014 18:31 (nine years ago) link

Another one I had to learn to love, I think because it's kind of atypical for an ambient track, at least in its choice of using a brassy tone as the main melody and mixing it so high (and while I was trying to summon this in my mind, I kept getting it mixed up with "Drane2").

Tbh this may be why I haven't spent much time with it and didn't consider it for my ballot. Enjoying it seems like an investment. And I'm pretty lazy, even in my music listening habits apparently.

crazy how much i've listened to autechre and i had no clue what would be in the top 5. cichli would have been my vote as well.

ugh (lukas), Friday, 3 October 2014 20:26 (nine years ago) link

but yeah have gotten a ton out of this poll, better part of 20 years with autechre and i feel like i'm listening with new ears, thanks all.

ugh (lukas), Friday, 3 October 2014 20:29 (nine years ago) link

Didn't see that coming ...

Steve Reich In The Afternoon (Against The 80s), Friday, 3 October 2014 21:02 (nine years ago) link

Listening to Cichli right now & it's cool, has a lovely logic to it. Extra measure in the beat gives it an almost proggish jaunt

Eutow is an astonishing piece of modern classical composition that IMO deserves & perhaps even needs to be 2 or 3 times longer. I wouldn't suggest it needs to even develop much, just inhabit its soundworld more emphatically. Its outro has the feel of a mid-track transition. Compare to something like Drane, which keeps coming and coming until you're emotionally & intellectually wracked

Ƹ༑Ʒ (imago), Friday, 3 October 2014 21:22 (nine years ago) link

N.B. I much prefer Cipater to Cichli but then Cichli is the more uncomplicated, more conventionally ornate 'banger' I guess haha, it's still gr8 don't get me wrong

like, it's not notated but it could be. someone transcribe it pls

Ƹ༑Ʒ (imago), Friday, 3 October 2014 21:37 (nine years ago) link

clipper is other ppl's autechre business but that's ok. (actually, it gets incredibly deep around 6 minutes in - i can see why it's so beloved now, even if it's practically an orbital song ;))

some real finds itt, esp from lp5, ep7 & the peel sessions, with a smattering from earlier still. again, ty everyone

Ƹ༑Ʒ (imago), Friday, 3 October 2014 21:46 (nine years ago) link

Damn, even the tracks I thought I knew well I have to hear again to properly recall and grasp. Cichli was my #4 and right now I can't recall it at all. Not surprised it won but the poll threw up enough other surprises and had a good spread across their catalogue - the feared incunabula clean sweep never happened, I thought basscadet was a cert.

If a job's worth doing it's worth doing, Horatio (ledge), Friday, 3 October 2014 21:47 (nine years ago) link

"Basscat" sounds *really* dated, as do a number of others from LP1. "444" is 4ever though (see what I did there).

xp You say dated, I say nostalgic.

Thanks leee, thanks to everyone who wrote about their fave tracks even though all music writing is horrible, thanks to everyone who used the word "synaesthesia".

i love this

drane i associate with one of those sudden violent midsummer storms rolling across london on an overcast day
fairly mild stuff compared to a subtropical hurricane

yeah im not too fond of the modern classical appelation here, perhaps phobically because i associate that term with nico muhly rather than tristan murail now
just play it really loud, it contains multitudes, the low end is nothing other than sick

Ƹ༑Ʒ (imago), Friday, 3 October 2014 23:13 (nine years ago) link

and with eutow i fully agree with the way it just breaks off when it should be building further and further, probably the only autechre track i feel that way about
