I finally found this image again after 25 years and I'm still wondering what this Kevin Shields guitar is - I'm also wondering if it's what they used for "Cigarette in Your Bed"

It's a pawshop special -- which doesn't make it a bad guitar necessarily -- I think it's more likely to be Japanese than European. A Teisco maybe?
