nakhers your display name is magnificently traumatic, makes me think of a great philosopher choosing to die

Ƹ༑Ʒ (imago), Wednesday, 15 October 2014 23:33 (nine years ago) link

sometimes ilx is just better for the carefree posting of abysmal posts and keeping the meme alive rather than trying to solve all of the world's ills

the final twilight of all evaluative standpoints (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 15 October 2014 23:34 (nine years ago) link

that is the translation of a phrase the great philosopher max weber wrote shortly before he died

The fate of our times is characterised by rationalisation and intellectualisation and, above all, by the "disenchantment of the world"

I don't really have the patience to watch much of that, but does he interview any leftish white folks who actually seem to have spent time thinking about whiteness? I think that would make the project a little more interesting than focusing ONLY on people with the classic "why don't these minorities pull their weight?" kind of views. Not saying white liberals are going to have some kind of perfect, saintly views on race, just think it would be a little more interesting to hear other segments of white people. It seems like choosing Buffalo is a good way to avoid getting those types, leaving you with this "authentic rust belt white folks" picture.

(and pretty much every other post I tried to formulate about "the whiteness project")

The Rolling Stones. To me they are no more than just overrated jerks who write melodically dead emotionally dry music. The most overrated band I know of, actually. The Rolling Stones receive way too much praise and credit for everything from influence to the quality of their hooks. I'd give them a one at best. That said, there are a bunch of Stones songs that I do like (even a couple that I love) and I can easily say Beggar's Banquet is a really good album, but for the most part they really leave me cold. Sorry, this is just how I feel.

how are white dudes supposed to expand our horizons if we don't discuss things that are utterly beyond our comprehension? Can we have a list of forbidden topics, plz?

Just in case you thought this might have been a worthwhile discussion, the world's most useless authority has arrived to disabuse you of that notion. Emphasis on the last two syllables of "disabuse".

The British Left? To me they are no more than just overrated jerks who write rhetorically dead emotionally dry pamphlets. The most overrated Left I know of, actually. The British Left receives way too much praise and credit for everything from influence to the quality of their books. I'd give them a one at best. That said, there are a bunch of British Leftists that I do like (even a couple that I love) and I can easily say Tariq Ali is a really good writer, but for the most part they really leave me cold.
