The micropenis episode was the last one I watched.

This weeks was the best episode of the season, maybe best of last two seasons. Not a lot of humanity, but fast and funny as it's every been.

Yes. I disagree. I thought it was a lot of fun.

Man, I actually think this season is a huge step up from the back half of last season. It has its ups and downs, but I'd rather see the ridiculous slapstick stuff like the meth episode than the hamfisted relationship bullshit.

i've begun to unwittingly adopt schmidt's vocal tics and i'm worried it won't stop

I stopped watching this last season. It seemed to really have begun to suck, from out of nowhere. Is it still awful?

It's still OK if you think of it as "The Coach and Winston show plus ZoDesh does some slapstick."

season 3 really sucked for a while (imo "birthday" through the end of the linda cardellini stretch, and i say that as linda cardellini) but got funny again in its last few eps, S4's been on and off laffs-wise. wayans jr is great. i wish they'd quit it with the endless "every character meets the perfect person who is perfect for them in every way and then they suddenly have to break up" cycle. just marry nick/jess schmidt/cece coach/winston and move on.

i dont mind the schmidt/cece thing but i thought them killing off nick and jess so quickly was weird. nick and schmidt are "self" "parodies" at this point but get some laughs, i find wayans irritating, not even winston has been doing it for me lately, but honestly i still laugh 3-4 times an episode which is enough for 22 minutes

thanks for confirming this show hasn't recovered past a "frustrating, but better than staring at a wall" level of tolerability, guys

when it's funny it's funny.

nick/jess in S3 was horrible, both together and not. it sucks when they lean on their great will-they-won't-they run-up for a season and then have no idea what to do when the actual relationship starts. so they just run through all the sitcom tropes. nick came out of it with all his edges sanded off and he's been mostly tough to watch since.

i'm apparently the only one who hates what they've done to winston?? he started off as an actual human being, they didn't really know what to do with him, so they turned him into a cartoon vegetable who needs to be reminded how to walk and which hole food is supposed to go into. the "winston loves puzzles and winston has literally no idea how a puzzle works" story made me want to punch a wall. S4's been better but that was all he was in S3.

Yeah, I quit after that awful bottle episode with Winston's police examiner. Seems like it hasn't really improved?

see this is pretty much how i felt about s3, tbh. but if you promise there's lots of Winston in it now I just might check it out.

bad news: it's all really unsatisfying police hijinks

jess' disappearing/reappearing nail polish is really cluing me in on many scenes take multiple days to shoot apparently

The Nick/Jess vaudeville routine ("They all smell terrible!" "I'm a good friend, but I'm not that good a friend!") had me breathless & in tears.

Wow no posts in this thread for a year. It's show malaise of the cursed ILX quotation mark topic search syndrome.
Show has definitely had a bit of decline for the last season or so, but I'm still enjoying it. Some thoughts about the recent half season:

1) a little ashamed to admit this but Megan Fox is still crazy mean/hot and i found her run watchable on that basis alone
2) glad they seem to actually be giving Winston and CeCe more time and jokes, especially CeCe who gets a lot more room to go wacky
3) Nasim Pedrad is adorable and great but I hope she actually gets a full role on this show eventually rather than what seems inevitable - that she gets weakly written off when her and Winston don't pan out
4) Nick has kinda become the defacto leader of the show this season, weird since Jess was out for so long and Schmidt got so much focus last year

it's turned a lot into HIMYM for me - it's still enjoyable often enough and i'm invested enough in the characters that i still watch every week. but it's never remarkable. i agree w/ everything else you just wrote.

it's the perfect show to not expect anything from. sometimes it lands, sometimes it doesn't. i fear that they are occasionally joey'ifying nick (i.e. making him more stupid than any human could be for cheap jokes) but so far they've kept that weakness in check. im perfectly content for it to persist or really to wrap at any pt

Peter Gallagher was a nice twist this week, i am not sure when i last saw him in anything

Man, the writing in this still crackles in a way HIMYM's never did. Even in the dud episodes, there are a least a dozen brilliant, undersold little lines tucked into the dialogue

otm i watched the entirety of himym and the more i look back on it the more that feels like wasted time on a subpar show

Agree w/ Evan, though it hasn't been as great as I'd like. Also agree about making Nick too unbelievably stupid.

man if you guys think nick is being unbelievably stupid you should go back and watch season 3 for the "suddenly 100% incapable of understanding basic human functions and customs" version of winston

it's not as funny as it once was but they've banked a lot of goodwill for "badbye, reagan. badbye."

Winston is carrying this show, and the Schmidt/CeCe wedding arc is weighing it down like a giant anchor

I just checked IMDB, it was just two episodes last week and two tonight for the final four.

Yeah, I am in the camp that thinks it should've ended last season. It's fine now but feels like a different show.

I am trying to remember if there have been outright laughs so far.

I'm enjoying this season, but mostly because the writers have clearly just decided to let it be completely silly and cut the last remaining tethers to believability, which is fine by me.

Nick and Schmidt's interaction over the mustache was great, also liked the Winston masturbation flashback.

I had to google what this masturbation flashback was because I may have fallen asleep during that episode.

The rest of the episode wasn't great, so that's fair, it might just be that college Nick always makes me laugh.
