album is about as smooth as it gets

i like 'where life begins'
Not really that old (2006), but I was very pleased to find, two days ago, a vinyl copy of Alexi Delano and Xpansul's Intelligence Reframed EP on Plus 8, That "Echolocation" is a doozy of track if there ever was one.

i think my favorite smooth heard track is that 'just another lonely day' by blakk society feat david hollister ...

This is one of the most beautiful albums of the 21th century. It has the soul comparable with the great Marvin Gaye, the smoothnes and intensity of Miles Davis, the funkyness of Prince and the groovieness of, well Larry Heard himself, when he was at his peak, back in the early 90's. "Missing You", "Until the last goodbye" and "Praise" are among the finest work Larry Heard ever made, and are three of the most beautiful songs of the century. "Dew drops" is a funky little number made with some nice sounding analogue synthesizers. "Riverside drive" and "Direct drive" takes you back to the 80's sound of Manchester and Ibiza. I know that a lot of people missed this record when it came out, thinking that Larry Heard never again could repeat the soulful intensity of his earlier work, so please do yourselves a favour and get this record and start believing again...

That guy also has The It album in his wantlist though so you can't trust his taste...

i tried listening to 'loves arrival' on my train ride home from work tonite and about 1:30 into 'dew drops' i switched to Z-Ro
― deej, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 03:56 (fifteen years ago) link
i would say it wasn't bad but it sounded ... extremely smoothed-out. i like the subtle differences between "introduction", "sceneries not songs", "ice castles / sns2", "alien", "dance 2000" etc. "love's arrival" sounded like you threw all those in a pot and blended together over heat until it turned tasteless.
― moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 04:12 (fifteen years ago) link
it felt really bad not to buy it, though. like i was giving up on a hero. sort of how i felt when i sold "tiny reminders".

You know, I haven't been able to stop playing Parage since I got it. This is one record that's gonna get worn out. Srsly, every moment of this is perfect.

Got some serious bobbins yesterday--
- Freestyle Man vs. Morris Brown- Smoke City EP - Frankie Knuckles featuring Nicky Richards- Keep on Movin' 12" - Earth People- Dance 12"
and i finally got the francois k mix of "go bang," which i always wanted on vinyl.
anyway, i am pleased, especially given the fact that Amoeba doesn't have listening booths-- the Freestyle Man ish is especially jammin, i think.

^ I thought all music was in the above. Then I went to a party the other week and heard music perhaps as good but I don't know what it was. Next week maybe there will be even better! If not it doesn't matter, I will have a happy time

Dance is awesome but the dub is better. It's got that almost "bouncey" for lack of a better term, break.
I dj'd with Pal Joey once to a room of about 15 people. He was great.

Whoa. Listen to the "experimental dance track" on this page: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7512072.stm
by Delia Derbyshire, the BBC Radio Workshop programmer of the Dr. Who theme. I don't know if this is from the '60s or not, but if it is, it certainly complicates the question of techno's "origins." As a movement, it may have been born in Detroit, but this is further proof of the diverse array of the roots of the structure itself...

Detroit biters, ripping off Derbyshire's soul.
Someone on DJ History has posted a d/lable version of this.

Wow, that is really cool. Delia's one of those pop mavericks I've never really explored properly. An interesting voice for sure. The little vocal snippet at the beginning is super cute.

I remember one of the booklets that came with those early 90s Volume compilations had a humourous article about origins of different electronic music genres, and the entry for "techno" read something like, "created while composing the soundtrack for the Original Dr Who series". I guess they weren't too far off.
― Tuomas, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link
And of course the Dr. Who Theme is responsible for the B side on this. Which is surprisingly like you'd imagine it to sound like.

How was I to know there were TWO different versions of this, and alas, I got the richie one not the brinkmann one I wanted :( Had I known I'd have gotten the remaster which has them both anyways.
In other news, after seeing Mossa's live set at Mutek, I spent weeks trying to find out what this track was (in awe of the fact that in 08 he could make such a great sounding 90's pop-house epic). Only yesterday I discovered it was in fact produced by Louis Vega in '93. What relevance this has, I don't know, but I've been listening to it since.

that deep inside is a barbara tucker vocal i believe
that song would be great even if it didn't have the drums - the bassline and vocals would suffice
