RIP. didn't he get thrown off multiple stones tours for being too wasted? an amazing accomplishment.

He got thrown out of the band essentially for a decade iirc until Keith snuck him back in. Mick hated him.

Almost sounds like a Paul Westerberg/Bob Stinson thing: "I can be wasted, but you can't!"

xp

Well, a couple years ago, I did a gig up in Iowa with one of those Stones tribute bands, and they were so bad that I fired the band. And it wasn't even my band! The lead singer was such an idiot that I told him to get off the stage before I ripped his head off, then I told the rest of them they might as well go, too. I played a song by myself and said, "Well, folks, that's going to be it for tonight."

The Stones met him in '64, when they played a fair in San Antonio and Keys was touring with Bobby Vee.

But his wild ways became even too wild for the Stones. On their 1973 European tour, he missed a commitment and Richards found him in his bathtub full of Dom Perignon. "He’s got a cigar, bathtub full of champagne and this French chick with him," Richards recalled in Life. "And he said, 'Fuck off'."
